    Yes, Tua Tagovailoa, the NFL’s latest lefty QB is a natural right-hander, one whose father, Galu, turned him into a (sometimes) southpaw in his youth ...“My dad was the only lefty in our family and he wanted me to be a lefty as well, so he switched the way I threw,” explained Tagovailoa, who still eats, writes and golfs right-handed but shoots baskets and throws footballs with his left.

      I sometimes think the awkwardness of setting his body to throw left handed when he is naturally righty, might be why he fails to keep his lower body lined up for maximum power when he throws .
      I notice Tua has a tendency to square up perpendicular to his throwing plane pretty early or out of sync. Makes me wonder, how much more velocity/power potential he still has to pull out.

    Tua is an absolute treat to watch. What he lacks in raw arm strength he makes up for with exceptional anticipation. The Dolphins offense has the potential to be one of those we talk about with the 98 Vikings, Greatest Show Rams, 07 Pats, 2011 Packers, 2013 Broncos, etc. etc.

    I absolutely love what Mike McDaniel and his staff are cooking up here this year. He plays to his players strengths (for some reason this has to be mentioned)! Tua has ELITE anticipation and is one of the most accurate throwers of the football. Take a look at where most of the passes go, right in the middle. Teams last year against the Dolphins started to play to stop this. So what did Mike McDaniel and his staff cook up this year? Even more pre-snap motions and quick developing routes. I have no idea what teams will do to stop this now when you have to respect the speed of Tyreek, Waddle and the backfield duo speed of Mostert + Achane. If teams try to close the middle of the field they will COOK you on outside zone plays and attack you on the sidelines, it's just a numbers game and confusion on the defense gives you the edge. When you have the players Dolphins have it is absolute nightmare fuel for opposing defensive coordinators making a game plan to stop them within your defensive system. Also massive props to the big boys on the line playing their butts off this year.

  • @willd.8040
    @willd.8040 Před 9 měsíci +7

    We might be watching the best offense the NFL has seen since the late 90's Rams "Greatest Show on Turf" with these Dolphins. It's so many factors that you rarely see in one offense. Tua's ability to go through progressions quickly and get rid of the ball fast. His anticipation and accuracy. The speed, with FOUR guys who ran college track and were champions. Play design and play calling that's just out of this world. And now an offensive line that has been together for two or more years, that is run and pass blocking as well as can be expected.
    How often have we seen all of this come together on ONE offense? Maybe the Chiefs with Tyreek, but they weren't THIS fast. And those Rams teams in the late 90s. I don't know how defenses will be able to consistently defend an offense like this. They're running so many guys in motion, and defenses are already scared of Tyreek and Waddle beating them over the top, and now you have to worry about Mostert and Achane? McDaniel is just playing with defenses right now because he knows the kind of QB he has, and that he's got four guys that are faster than 99% of the league.
    It's early of course, and we need to see them protect Tua the whole year, but if they do and they can avoid any major injuries to their key players, this is a team that can beat ANYONE, including the Niners, Eagles, Chiefs, and Bills. And they're going to get Jalen Ramsey back later on, an All-Pro CB to add to a defense that's improved the last two weeks and are in year one of a new system and coordinator. They haven't peaked yet on defense, and they are STACKED with talent on defense, without Ramsey. With him, and they could be one of the top 2-3 defenses in the NFL. THIS offense combined with a top 3-5 defense? Yeah, that's a recipe for a SB win.

    The Miami play calling and play design is going under appreciated by many (not here). I am a big believer that the two most decisive factors between winning and losing are 1. players abilities 2. Calling the right plays at the right time.
    JT you highlighted a few plays that show Tua's outstanding timing and skill. Some of these throws are pipe dreams for some current NFL quarterbacks. Unfortunately some just don't get that the play design is what gives the receiver AND quarterback a chance to succeed.

    When Tua decides to throw "deep" to Tyreek I don't see the "problem" as a questionable arm but Tyreek is blazingly fast. Mahomes had the same issue throwing deep to Tyreek where he had to slow up or come back. The QB has to decide who and where to throw and Reek is already 20 yards downfield and double covered... in the deep out you can see this as Tua had to wait for the slot defender to flip his hips and move to cover the in breaking WR... just look at when Tua makes his decision and where Reek is and the DB's are. it's insane.

    • @Wenkebach
      @Wenkebach Před 9 měsíci +7

      Also, on the 15 minute pass to Tyreek, Tyreek rounds the route, why wasn't that pointed out instead of calling out Tua's weak arm? Look at where Reek is when Tua throws it.

      That's good in theory but then you risk having your playmakers injured due to your hubris. If you try to blow out teams when a game is already decided then you're gonna drastically raise the likelihood that the opponent would seek to hurt the other team by targeting as retaliation.

    We call these fast motions enter and exit.
    Ex. X enter or H exit.
    Slow motion or shifts we say X same 2 or X same 3. X will motion but stay on the same side of the formation becoming the new #2 or #3.
    To motion across, we say oppo.
    Allows us to move anyone anywhere.

    that out at the 15 min mark, it absolutely could be the lack of top end arm, but could also be that hill rounded the out a bit more than Tua anticipated. If the cut out was sharper, wouldnt it have been a much more catchable ball without the comeback and almost going down for it?

    Sometimes on his one or two throws a game that are just off I wonder if it is because of indecision. Like the throw at 15:20 where he "didn't have enough club," I wonder if when he started stepping into his throw he was going to Chosen and then saw the db on Hill turn his hips a little and decided to go to force it to Hill with just arm strength.

    I don't wanna make excuses for Tua we know he doesn't have the strongest arm but on that throw he missed to Tyreek at the 15:00 mark, it looks like Reek rounded that route out taking him about 5 yards deeper when maybe Tua thought he cut a little harder.

    Tua's velocity issue on deep balls stems from him occasionally playing a little like Steph Curry. Where he just kind of shoots it up there and watches it fly, instead of actually driving the ball like he needs to.

      @@user-qh7rj9wj4p that's what I mean when I say he just kind of shoots one up like he is Steph Curry sometimes, instead of driving the ball. How Steph will just haphazardly toss up a 3 and not really put any conviction behind it, because he doesn't always have to. Well, Tua does that sometimes, where he will just kind of toss one out there instead of stepping through and driving the ball down field like he needed to.

Then he starts really going off and what he does on the field of play just looks so different than what everyone else is doing, and it results in a lot of points being scored very quickly, with an almost effortless appearance. Now my man just has to go get him a ring or two, and it'll be a perfect comp.

    I'm in no way diminishing tua and the dolphins accomplishments this season along with great run game and a defense that keeps getting better. Bob Griese was throwing to a spot in the 70s. With the speed of defenders you have to do it to a degree. I first learned of griese doing it because of Don Meredith explaining how griese does it.

    I feel like Tua has such a soft touch on the ball that it looks like he doesnt have enough arm. Because Tua can easily throw over 25 yards, but sometimes he underestimates distance and you end up with what people call balloon balls.

    And now with teams having to game plan for Achane and Mostert I honestly don’t see how defenses stop them with all that pre snap motion to free up guys and make it nearly impossible for DBs to gets hands on guys.
    If u want to bring a strong safety in the box to keep from getting gauged by the run now it just means bigger holes in the zone for Waddle and Tyreek unless u want to try playing man with a safety deep and let them kill u on 15 yard ins across the middle.
    What Achane did put the NFL on notice. These Dolphins have a great run game.

Are they trying to get him to think its man and throw into the zone thats covering the mesh part of it? Is it a good defensive call versus the play the dolphins ran and the dolphins just beat it?

    Good point about Tua playing a little Buddy Ball with Tyreek, but it's also good to point out that on many of those examples, he could have hit more than one open guy. Denver's coverage was MIA for most of that game.
    I realize now that this is the first time most of us have seen Tua Tagovailoa healthy, much less surrounded by top talent. Until now, I did not see why he was so highly regarded.

    That one throw where Tua threw it kind of short, I think Tua saw the defender right on the receiver and so maybe threw it a little short out of an abundance of caution? Or maybe he was expecting his reciever to come back a little bit more to get some more separation? I'm not saying Tua doesn't make any mistakes; this throw was off. I'm just wondering if one of these reasons could have been the reason his throw was off.
