Mike McDaniel is a diabolical genius. After completely turning around Tua Tagovailoa’s career with his innovative offensive scheme, he ran into a slight hiccup in week 14 against Brandon Staley last season. So, what do all great NFL coaches do? They solve the problem, with new and innovative answers. This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 to analyze Miami Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel’s brilliant offensive scheme.

As a SF fan, I was ok losing Saleh and DeMeco, but losing McDaniel was a hit. He was more than deserving of his shot at being a Head Coach though (obviously). And happy to see him doing well, and to get the two comp picks.
Mr Irrelevant over there is pretty fun to watch too. Last year when he came in against us (dolphins) I thought "Aww yeah. We got this. 7th round qb against our defense." Made us look dumb. Good luck this year.
I knew and liked McD for his dry humor press conferences back when he was still at the 49ers. I was sooo thrilled when I heard he was gonna come, he lived up to all expectations so far.
W or L, Dolphins are fun to watch.
@@MrRectangle😂yup those were my thoughts exactly and he ended up playing a purdy game 🤦🏾♂️

@@MilkyJohnsons Miami brought the "shock and awe" factor yesterday, but they will need to back it up against the Bills in Buffalo. If they can even do half of what they did against the Bills defense then I know this team is for real. They will be very aggressive with Hill and want to knock him around.
Tua and McDaniel are an awesome match. Elvis once said “It ain’t a song until you sing it.” Same thing with football really, "It ain't a play until you run it."
Sucks that we lost Mike McDaniel, but I'm happy to see him thriving in Miami, and turning the Dolphins around. That franchise has been a doormat for the most part since Marino retired. Now, hopefully that offensive line holds up, and Tua can stay upright. Been a while since a southpaw dominated the league. Thanks for uploading champ :)
Thanks my guy, I got you. Yeah, it's crazy that a personality like him works honestly, but he is just so fucking good at what he does
I really think we have to start putting him in the conversation among the very best playcallers in the league.
He's so creative.
Love watching the Dolphins offense.
I would put him .. Andy Reid, Kevin O Connell, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt Lafluer, and Brian Daboll up there
@@maskedman5657Andy Reid is in his own category. The dolphins didnt even have a top 5 offense last year so what is the point of this video lmao
@@SycoticForeverNeverAF Well, they were also on a second, or even third-string QB a ton. Skylar Thompson isn't gonna help you have a top 5 offense.
@@SycoticForeverNeverAF You didn't watch the Dolphins last year. Before Tua's concussion, the Dolphins had the #1 offense in the league. They finished the year with a 3rd string 7th round rookie QB.
@@SycoticForeverNeverAFhow is "Andy Reid his own category" when he has a generational QB in Mahomes? Give anyone of the Shanahan tree the same QB and you'll have the same result. Andy Reid never won anything without Mahomes despite being in the league for over 20 years.
I am a Chargers fan and watching Tua and Mike work was incredible. Truly the best offensive mind in the NFL next to Reid. Not sure why Dolphins fans ever got so insecure about the Herbert and Tua comparisons. It's just fun to watch them both play at a high level.
The media anointed Herbert and called tua a system QB
Yea they are both fun to watch, and it was an incredibly entertaining game to watch, football at its finest. Both could've won and would've deserved it.
Tua initially struggled and had a problematic almost career-ending start because he had a HC that almost ruined him (Flores). McD came just in time.
Insecure?!? They were calling the man a bust With that bum Flores.
I think you look at Herbert and you just see the talent. Tua best asset is not something you can see because it's his football IQ, his ability to read defense fast and make accurate throws. A lot of casuals just can't see this.
Sadly, Twitter and CZcams has given toxic know-nothings in the Dolphins community an outlet to spew ignorance and hate as they kept this fanbase divided on our franchise Quarterback who needed time to heal his hip, a coach that believes in him and a supporting cast (O-line, relievers, running game [coming soon], 2nd year in a system/stability)
This video couldn’t have aged better in a week 😭😭
McDaniel and Miami are a perfect match too. What a fun team. They're a legit Super Bowl threat.
Seems like Tyreek's claim of breaking the 2k receiving yard threshold might happen this year? He's definitely on pace after W1. Also, I didn't realize the jet sweep motion was being utilized on snap to give Hill / Waddle the speed advantage right out of the gate. Always learn something from your videos!
Thanks brother! Yeah, you'll see a lot of people motioning across into the route now, teams picked it up during the year last year and now it's happening a lot more
Mike and Tua are a good team. They work well together. They like and respect each other.
Bills fan here, they are definitely impressive! This is also a great reason head coaches should be offensive minds instead of defensive, like our Bills. Nothing personal against our head coach but if a team with a defensive head coach does get a great offensive coordinator, they won’t have him long because some other team will make him a head coach! Hence we lost ours and now seem to struggle.
Similar to having a great defensive coordinator with offensive coach. You lose that DC and you lose that defense
@@eja35oz It definitely can happen and has, but I definitely think it’s a more prevalent and impactful problem when it’s a great OC who’s a great offensive mind that ends up leaving to be a head coach.

@@eja35oznot if they follow the 49ers blueprint. We’re on our 3rd DC and we still have a dominant defense. Their is a way to do it but its up to the HC to figure it out. Great head coaches will find a way to keep that defense dominant even if u change DC multiple times
I'm a Broncos fan, but after watching Miami's beautiful system get second in NFL yards and points in one game has me in absolute awe. My team may be dead this season, but I have something to look forward to: watching this offense cook.
Maybe one day he’ll go back to Colorado. He is from Aurora CO
@@ventura80503 Broncos was looking for a HC and wouldn't even give Mike an interview, some reckon the 70-20 game was him sending a reply to that
Eh its only the 3rd game with 14 to go. Dolphin offense might be good but that defense needs work. This week is in Buffalo and will surely be the best game to watch--Can the Dolphins offense beat the #1 ranked defense because Miami's defense cannot stop anyone it seems. They are just timely to make those plays when needed
Im not too in depth with football and all the schemes (NBA Fan) but the way you broke this down is so good. Would love to see other coach adjustments like this
Dropping this a week before the 70-20 proves you're right
Siince last year Tua is leading league against zone coverage, averaging over 9 yards attempt. He has the 3rd fastest release, but the most air yards per attempt. When he is healthy, he is insanely effective.
He has definitely done well but I also think a huge part of those figures is who he’s throwing to!
He may not have a cannon arm, but his elite anticipation and accuracy makes him a killer in the red zone.

Bro scored 70 points without waddle
McDaniel anticipates the defense having an answer, vs New England there were successful plays predicated on Bilicheck making the expected adjustment. Defenses would be better off just running in circles
Dude this video was awesome. Truly appreciate the breakdowns and editing is awesome too.
Thank you brother!!
McDaniel is great at getting the defense into the personnel packages that he wants to exploit. His usage of 21 personnel keeps more LBs in the box, which he then exploits in the passing game.
Where do u think he learned that from? Kyle. 😂😂😂
Fire comment brother!! 100%, I think a lot of people assume he's super spread 11 personnel, but Alec Ingold is so fucking important
Very good points, you`ve earned a sub!
With coach Mike`s offensive mind, Tua`s fast reading of a defense, quick release and accuracy, mixed with the speed of players like Hill, Waddle, Mostert and when we see Achain and, very good possession receivers like Berrios, Cracraft, Smythe and this O-line getting better and with more depth, Fangio will tighten up this D, he`s never had a bad defence......Finz up baby!!

Mike MCDANIELs play calling is great..comes with a game plan and everything just seems to come together for some very fun football style
anyone here after the 70 point game?
Spectacular analysis. I played a different sport, for which I developed a “chaos zone.” It requires unpredictable and changing coverage to stymie the thrower. I don’t know that it would work in football because of the drop-in arc of a football, and how little wind affects the ball’s flight. I bring this up because the Charger D in 2022 had components of chaos zone in how the linebackers played, tho not the cornerbacks as they stuck to man coverage.
On SNF Bill Belichik threw the kitchen sink at them, and McDaniel countered it with running plays.
This aged well after just watching the dolphins rack up 70 points in a win
Genius' don't blow play call late in the 4th quarter. Genius' don't lose in the 1st round of the playoffs 2 years in a row.
Good stuff, Alex!

Great work Alex
Thank you!
This video aged so crazy since they just dropped 70 and couldve had more but were feeling generous
Great commentary
Thanks!
Staley might have won the battle but he lost the war 😂 he made McDaniel implement new ideas into that system. The way they looked on Sunday that offense looks like it's on steroids now. Could've easily had 50 points if they didn't mess up on certain plays
For someone who's never played and only watched the match highlights for a couple of years, the ostensible inability of defenders to intercept passes always baffled me. I mean, just jump a bit or run a bit faster and there you have it, an easy pick. Only recently I've come to appreciate the incredible accuracy and power the QBs throw the ball and how the receivers make themselves available for that brief moment that is often enough. It's not that the defenders aren't trying, the throws just are too good.
How do you get these film cut ups to analyze??
Dude great video. Im dumb but i was able to understand you. Lol. Thats impressive. I actually learned something. Good stuff dudr.
Thanks brother! Football is complicated, don't be too hard on yourself
Million dollar question: can he do it against Hoodie tomorrow?
We will find out soon enough. Can't wait!
Tua is 4-0 against the pats icymi, so more like a $1.50 question
Will be interesting to see. From the offset BB has to find a way to aggressively press Hill and Waddle even if it means those 2 can score off an ez deep shot. All while pressuring Tua on late pass downs. Pats def should not feel safe even if they are ahead by 2 TDs late in the 4th let alone holding on to a FG with 2 minutes left.
Alex, I would love to know your Opinion on what you think Justin Herbert would do in this offense with Reek and waddle? Could they ever be stopped? His anticipation is somewhat underrated.
I think the offense would look different with Herbert, but with those weapons, yeah would be completely unstoppable
this is before the 70 piece too
mike mcdaniel is literally running madden glitch plays in real life
*proceeds to drop 70 points today*
Great videos as always! Simms was raving about how impressed he was watching the Miami tape this week.
Dumb Question: why wouldn’t Defenses have a linebacker/third safety act as a QB Spy in the middle of the field, at about 10 yards out? That player can be rotated to disguise the coverage and it would clog the area Miami wants to attack. A defense can’t stop everything but I’d prefer all that Miami speed on offense to be limited to one side in flat in order to contain and have Tua throw to the sideline over the middle of the field. I’m thinking Chargers and teams know an idea of what Miami generally wants to do, if if it’s disguised differently.
Thanks Harrison. It's a good question, however if that guy isn't filling in the run game that's a problem, plus a static body that deep will only take away one window, not all of them
@@AlexRollinsNFL thanks for the reply! I use your videos and others on here to learn more about the chess match plays these teams use in games. Guess we’ll see what The Hoodie does tonight to shutdown Tua; Bill is 0-4 so should be good. Keep up the great work!

Awesome analysis man, thank you! It is great to understand these concepts more.
I have been a life-long Charger fan. What Staley did last year to the Fins offense was awesome, and it's part of the reason why I still think he should be our coach, even with all the questionable calls this year. Would have loved to see our corners press a little more in week 1, even off the jet motions (also, JC Jackson is just hot garbage, glad to see Ja'Sir Taylor getting more PT). Having said that, the Dolphins might have a top 5 offense in NFL history this year, so keeping that game close was impressive. Tyreek has a gold jacket waiting for him.
