I’m betting that maalox consumption among NFL defensive coordinators spiked around the time that yesterday’s Dolphins highlights came across their screens.
31 NFL defenses are playing checkers and yesterday, they got a glimpse of Boris Spassky.

Spectacular analysis. I played a different sport, for which I developed a “chaos zone.” It requires unpredictable and changing coverage to stymie the thrower. I don’t know that it would work in football because of the drop-in arc of a football, and how little wind affects the ball’s flight. I bring this up because the Charger D in 2022 had components of chaos zone in how the linebackers played, tho not the cornerbacks as they stuck to man coverage.

For someone who's never played and only watched the match highlights for a couple of years, the ostensible inability of defenders to intercept passes always baffled me. I mean, just jump a bit or run a bit faster and there you have it, an easy pick. Only recently I've come to appreciate the incredible accuracy and power the QBs throw the ball and how the receivers make themselves available for that brief moment that is often enough. It's not that the defenders aren't trying, the throws just are too good.

Will be interesting to see. From the offset BB has to find a way to aggressively press Hill and Waddle even if it means those 2 can score off an ez deep shot. All while pressuring Tua on late pass downs. Pats def should not feel safe even if they are ahead by 2 TDs late in the 4th let alone holding on to a FG with 2 minutes left.

Great videos as always! Simms was raving about how impressed he was watching the Miami tape this week.
Dumb Question: why wouldn’t Defenses have a linebacker/third safety act as a QB Spy in the middle of the field, at about 10 yards out? That player can be rotated to disguise the coverage and it would clog the area Miami wants to attack. A defense can’t stop everything but I’d prefer all that Miami speed on offense to be limited to one side in flat in order to contain and have Tua throw to the sideline over the middle of the field. I’m thinking Chargers and teams know an idea of what Miami generally wants to do, if if it’s disguised differently.

Awesome analysis man, thank you! It is great to understand these concepts more.
I have been a life-long Charger fan. What Staley did last year to the Fins offense was awesome, and it's part of the reason why I still think he should be our coach, even with all the questionable calls this year. Would have loved to see our corners press a little more in week 1, even off the jet motions (also, JC Jackson is just hot garbage, glad to see Ja'Sir Taylor getting more PT). Having said that, the Dolphins might have a top 5 offense in NFL history this year, so keeping that game close was impressive. Tyreek has a gold jacket waiting for him.
I've known a lot of cool Fins fans over the years, I am very happy for their success thus far. A Chargers/Dolphins AFC Championship game would be a dream! Bolt up ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
