SHV800 here and will never look at another servo. What a beast
Love your servos&motors 👍💯
I upgraded mine years ago with your HV500. While I did have to replace the gear set (it got submerge for a ;while in the river and I did not check it for water). It has proven 100% reliable since (it's now packed with dielectric grease and marine grease for the gears).
In my RC Flight Models are only RX S-Bus and S-Bus Futaba Servos. You can feel it. For the Crawler i have a PowerHD25 Servo and a low price RX/TX. Thats all you need. This is a very nice hobby, which I recently discovered for myself. Greetings from Germany.
Best servo,s/motors on the market imo. 👍from Missouri
My TRX-4 Sport has a SHV500 v3. Love it! And replaced the stock transmitter with the next model up so I could set the endpoints. Like with you, I just barely needed to reduce the endpoints.
If its bending the housing on a trx4 it's a beast of a servo. I'd say on 4s it'd snap parts with ease. Which of course is awesome and what you really want when your bound up somewhere and mad. Twist it till something happens. Lol. I love all the holmes products I've tried so far. I'm really happy to see you expand into LP servos so I can use all holmes products on my next vanquish build.
I've got a new SHV650 mounted up in my latest LCG build. Getting ready to put together a set of 13 inch links today.
Have fun.
I have the SHV800 SOA in my Ecto. Love it!!!
Might be good on beer throttle but whiskey might kill it lol👍💡
I’ve got a cheap 35kg Amazon servo in my TRX6, and it’s holding up great to the abuse so far. It’s been in lots of snow and single digit temps and is still steering strong. One of these days I’ll be able to get one of your beasts! Lol
I have the shv500v2 in my trx4. Still love the thing. Haven't pulled the trigger on the 650 yet. Might just have too to replace my ultra talkative 500v3. V3 gonna go to my 4s original Erevo
I’ve got a SHV500v3, Revolver Classic 1950 and a Copperhead in my TRX4 👌
When the stock servo failed I initially swapped to a Power HD 25kg servo. I bought one of the SHV 500 V3 servos to eventually replace it and I've added a JST plug to the rigs battery plug but the Power HD is still working fine, even with a fair bit of abuse like tumbling down rock walls many times.
I really don't know if I want to _have to_ beef up the steering to use the SHV 650 but steering links are cheap enough and I've been looking at aluminum portal housings with replaceable steering arms for a while so never say never. It does look speedy and you can't complain about the torque.
Sweeeet looking forward too the rocks 👉💪☑️
Pretty much ANY aftermarket servo will be an improvement over the stock TRX4 servo. I replaced all of my TRX4 steering servos with Savox 2290SG. What I have found is that when you increase the power of the steering servo you have to upgrade the plastic TRX4 panhard bar mount to an aftermarket aluminum mount.
I went from the upgraded traxxas metal gear servo. Now I have a Promodeler 555. powered by my castle MambaX set to 6.0 seem very fast and strong. If I need a new one for any of my RC's I want to upgrade to one of the HolmesHobbies.
Your servos ROCK! Hx2 Haslam
One day I likely should add a TRX-4 to my stable.
I put the protec black label high torq servo it's a beast at 7.5v. I needed more power for the traxx kit. With a 16t pinion the traxx do work 😆
I have a heavily modified TRX4 with lots of brass and a modified lift, so it is quite heavy. I went with a reef's triple 5, and it kept breaking the Pan hard mount. I prefabbed my own Pan hardmount out of metal, and it is holding up great. it now only twists servo horns, and I have found that the vanquish horns hold up the best.
The reefs is decent for a chinese servo....only overpriced.
@andy R.
You must have had a bad experience with reef's products because you have managed to spew the same garbage to everybody that is running reefs. If you don't like Chinese products, you should get out of the RC hobby.
There's no doubt that Holmes hobbies make some great products, and I plan on purchasing some real soon for another build I'm doing.😎
Shv800 on my trx4, I needed a metal panhard mount, but I started using trx4 rod ends on most of my crawler builds. The actual traxxas ones have so much beef.
Running a 3Bros G13 here. Have a G14 in the box for another build too. Would have gone with your SHV line of servos, but alas - out of stock everywhere when I was in the market.
I have a PowerHD 25kg in my TRX4 but have just ordered the SHV800 as i have a lot of brass on the front end. I have the SHV500v3 in my VS4-10 Pheonix and really love it, a little chatty but i can put up with that when the servo is this good. Cant wait to get the 800 put in to see what Craziness pulling power it has 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Just make sure to check your clearance cause the SHV800 is slightly lower stack height so the servo arm may rub on things.
@@Esteb858 yeah will do bud, thanks for looking out for me, appreciate it. 👍🏻🤙🏻
That's funny, I use my discs for parts trays too lol
Using the powerhd 25kg its ok for now lol I got the your 500 in my lmt it's just awesome!!👍
I just bought a Savox, 32.0 it's gotta be better then stock. It was 95 buck couldn't afford any more then that. Day late on seeing this but does help
I'm going to watch the video well~^^
If you have the tqi you can adjust all end points I upgraded mine to tqi on my sport and looking to replace the servo aging I’m using an Amazon servo works good but need some more power to push my rig around to get better approach angles also it wise to use a angles steering rod on the trx4 sport or trx4 and helps out so much I get a lot more angle maybe to much but so useful Ill post an update video with a trail run
Just running a old noisy savox 1230sg I had kicking around
I put the injora 35kg unit. It was cheap and I needed one fast.
In one I have an SVH500, a kit, and a JX 46 (I think) in my defender. I have steel knuckles on my kit. Some day I will get a 650
I've upgraded the servo in my TRX4 and my wife's TRX6 to the SHV800. What a monster, and we absolutely love them, but. . . That same steel Traxxas servo horn gouged a chunk of the servo casing turning it to the right. I had sweety the endpoints and all, but being my first upgraded, very nice servos, I never thought to check for that or that it would be a problem until it was too late and I went to work on them again and noticed a shiny silver gouge in the servos. At first, I was confused on how the servos could be damaged until I seen what had actually happened. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed out about it, but the damage is done now. Hopefully that's all that was effected and nothing internal. I just wish I had known to check for that before it happened.
That happened with my shv500 too. I ended up trimming my servo horn just bit to get full swing. And, for the record, I love my HH servo. And not just for the power and strength, but also the speed compared to the ones I've tried from amazon.
@@davidsimpson363 I need to do that with mine, but dammit I wish I had looked for that before gouging the crap out of these servos.
@@OkieDokieBoi I understand... I felt the same way. Good news is the servo still runs like a champ.
Hey John little off topic but you’re the guy that would know. I have one of your magnum motors running off a hobbywing 1080 in a Capra I was wondering if there are any esc’s that you would recommend that would be even smoother for that motor? Thanks
Got the 500v3 on my LMT, but want more so the 650 if not that 800😀
I would absolutely LOVE one of your servos ... but in all honesty, the 35kg Amazon for $20 does the job for my needs. There is no doubt your servos are insane in every way ... i just feel they are for more serious crawler guys, that need that power to remove rocks from the earth when they are in the way lol.
Must have gotten lucky I had 2 amazon servos smoke within 10minutes on the rocks with my truck. Holmes have never let me down
Lot of people have good luck with them.
@@codygores4036 The odds of burning up 2 x Amazon servos in 10 minutes are crazy ... its probably safe to say, you are in the "serious" rock crawler category. If you are using the servo to try and push unmovable objects, the holmes of coarse will serve you far better. The rest of us, just have to back off when the steering stalls, otherwise we will end up smoking our cheap servos :(
use them also very good
Yeah those amazon servos just do the job. I use AGFRC servos that come in a huge range of torque to fit your RC needs. They have light weight racing servos to heavy duty earth moving crawler servos.
I don't have a trx4 but I have the scx10.3 kit which I installed a ludicrous brushless servo which I think is 35kg on 7.5v I have it running from the receiver as my light kit runs directly from my lipo. I'm currently doing a scratch build with the 10.2 raw builders kit as a starting point. It does look like I've just found the servo ill be using 👌 awesome work on this bud is there a splitter lead for the balance cable so that I could direct power more than one thing from my lipo?
The stock panhard mount flexes. The axle is fine. Adding metal panhard mounts will give better steering on trx4
Huh good to know
@@TrillMurray If you run the inner fenders on your TRX-4 then the Panhard mount and shock towers are built in. In that case you can add a support (Joe Collins at Exocaged did this with piece of aluminum rod). I did that on my first one but then just designed a lightweight 3d printed support. Problem solved and I can keep my fenders for the more scale look while I run beefy HH servos!
They don’t make metal ones?
@@Djkommode you can get aftermarket metal panhard mounts, but they don't really fit the Traxxas inner fenders without mods. So, it depends on which mods you want to make.
@@davidsimpson363 ah see
That might explain why my front housing broke… I have a SHV500 v3 currently installed and have a SHV650 ready to be installed.
You can use the stock controller by using the Bluetooth module
If you don't have the Bluetooth module, you can also use the button sequence cheat sheet. I did also figure out on my own that if you have to reverse the servo direction, set the endpoints first. You'll be turning the wheels the opposite direction of the transmitter, of course, but when you reverse the servo direction after that, those points will still stay true for left and right throw. 👍
Brass for the trx4! I run savox 1270tg
SHV800 in a TRX6 with weighted 5.2” tires, SHV800s in a TRX4 axle build with the Traxx, and a Reefs 777 (because I had it laying around) in a TRX4 with 6” tires. The 777 is…….(just to be nice) in need of replacement with either an 800, or 650.
I have the SVH500V3 in my TRX4
Hello I was wondering if you offer any servos for a cross rc. My diff lock servo died on me my first day but I can't seem to find any info on a aftermarket one that will fit.
John...i want one of these..but..ive been doing alot of research on this servo and the word is that with this and the 500's, the stock traxxas steering horn is scraping the servo and alot of folks are having to change the horn...did you notice any scrapes on the servo after the test? Should i have to replace it to use your servo?
Are your tool trays disc golf disc?
Hi, would this work on Kraton v5 6s without breaking things?
For some reason it's funny to me to think that you packaged up the servo just to unwrap it again lol
When will these be back in stock?
Have you figured out the issue as to why the SHV650 is twitching so much. I cant run it direct power or it sits there twitching back n forth
Just bought this servo and tried to put onto my gspeed build kit, somehow cannot put on the Amazon annimos servo horn (25t clamp). Super tight fit and I was afraid it is gonna strip the servo head. Anyone has any recommendation on what servo horn to use with this monster? thx
I never buy RTR... always get Kit versions. I got a TRX4 Sport Kit and used my own electronics... actually used a Crawlmaster Pro 10T motor with a 1080 ESC and a Savox SC-1257TG.
The 1080 is decent. I prefer the Carisma ARC-2 ESC. It's the same price as the 1080 but, it has more settings and a better drag brake. It also has a low profile and an interesting wire layout.
I really like my reefs servos. They offer a wide torque and speed rating range. I'd love to see you offer some servos under 75 bucks in the average Joe power range. I don't currently have a Holmes hobbies servo because I don't need 650+ oz inches of torque.
Reef servos are okay but, they're just rebranded servos.
@@SnarkyRC aren't they all though? Do you think all of these different companies are building servos in house?
@@SnarkyRC even these Holmes servos are built by another company. It could be agfrc. They manufacture probably a majority of the servos available today
I went with the reefs 422hd I still need to get direct power to take full advantage of that torque.
Reefs is rebranded chinese servo...its fine but overpriced
@@themountain59 just curious, where have you seen the reefs in its original Chinese ("not rebranded") form? Again, just curious.
how is this adapter made? can i buy it directly?
What if we have the pro scale lighting system and the pro scale winch also attached is it ok to also attach the servo or ? Omg why i feel it is complicated 🙃, here you just attached the servo i understand the steps easy but is it still gonna be ok if having the light and the winch also, i use 2s lipo and i have 3s as well
Shouldn't be an issue if you have enough plugs
25$ 7.4v 35kg Dsservo for monetary reasons. good enough for what I do
i'm running the reefs triple 5 on my scx10.3 and the stock spektrum servo still for my Capra. The Capra will need a new steering servo soon...any recommendations would be highly appreciated. I feel this might be overkill for the Capra. Not necessarily needing direct power, but it sure is nice.
Well reefs are ok for a chinese servo..only over priced.
Yep. Reef just rebrands their servos
I've got the Savox SC1256TG running into a external BEC for 6v/277. Ive never had any complaints from the rig about it :D
How did you set the endpoints with the traxxas tqi because I’ve been trying for hours and it doesn’t want to set. Everytime I get it where I want it to be I press set and it throws it further then I set it so I try again and still it doesn’t stay where I set. Please help also I’m running the 800 if that makes a difference
You might need the Bluetooth module. The tqi2 doesn't allow it via button, if I recall correct. But the tq3 does
Ok so I actually figured it out last night while messing around with it and you don’t need any of what you just said. It’s a little hard and it might not be at its tightest angle but if it doesn’t work the first time you just got to try it again. So this is what I did, i put tape around on the controller body near the steering wheel and marked where the maximum steering angle would be on both right and left, afterwards disconnect direct power to steering Then going into the endpoints settings on the Tqi just line up the same markings you made previously and press set like you normally would for each side and voilà! You’re in action!!!
Would you recommend a 650 for the Capra, or would the 500 be better?
Your preference, but the 500v3 would be fine. If no more then the 650,but the 500 would be adequate for your capra💪👍
Want to get that servo and what motor you suggest for my trx 4
Brushed? 10t or 12t crawlmaster is good
SHV800 on my TRX4
I use a JX EcoBoost 35kg, is cheap but i now 35kg is not always right, they should have like 27-30kg
Is that Mamba Micro not too small for this truck and it's weight ratings??
They are rated for 2.25 pounds so officially it is too small, but it is geared way down because its a crawler, so as long as keeping the truck stock or even doing some weight reduction it should survive just fine. The Micro X is also rated for 3s so should be able to supply adequate power without stressing the entire system much.
Mama micro x is pretty good. Use the 2280kv on my 8lb. Scx10.3 and 2850kv on my 7lb. Scx10.2 no issues ever...but that is with external bec or direct power servo. Mamba micro x has horrible bec.
35kg something from amazon, it works well
I bought one if your of course lol shv500v3
So are you like me and never use dual rate use the true end points on the Traxxas tqi radio through the menu tree with the menu and set buttons? I never use dual rate not the same as end points.
Nah, I never mess with rates on the radio
You really torture me with having to wait for the driving parts of the video. I have a BEC on my HV500 and only run it at 7.2V. Plenty of steering power and haven't broken anything yet, knock on wood. If I upgrade to CNC aluminum axle housing and steering knuckles in my TRX4, then I would run 3s to the servo. Too me you still can't beat a high quality BEC from Castle Creations for servos.
Reefs 777
Send me the stock servo the last a long time for me
If it ain't a Reefs 500 raw then it's garbage.
What size horn do you recommend for that setup?
24mm or 1 inch
@@HolmesHobbies thank you! You da man!
@HolmesHobbies 25t? Sorry im a super noob lol
@@EricsRC yep, almost all servos today are 25 spline
