    I am only 14 years old and i do not have a very Big makeup collection, but i loooove project panning. I really dont want to see my collection get overwelming for me. This community is the Best thing ever and really keeps me (and everybody else i think) going!

      Welcome, Liva!!! I am very proud of you bc it's very tough to not get sucked into re vortex as we watch CZcams. I admire your resolve and it will remain easy to stick to your goals when you stay connected with people panning!!!!!

    My biggest issue is I buy because the colour or packing is gorgeous, I buy to say I have it. Then its almost a compulsion where I cant use the product because I love how it looks new. I don't ever want to not have it. Since project panning, its shown me I how enjoyable it is to use those stashed products I've just been admiring. Thanks for your tips Amber!

    Thank you so much for this video. CZcams got me hooked on wearing and trying new makeup, and while it has been so much fun and has raised my self esteem, I've built a collection I know I'll never be able to use all at once. For the past year not only was I buying things in stores (mostly drugstore thank god) I was subscribed to three different beauty boxes that cost me $55 a month. I'm nervous yet excited to try to pan some of my products, and to cut down on my purchases. Today I finally got the courage to cancel all three beauty boxes, and it was a huge start.

    I have been project panning for four months now. You’re video is what introduced me to the community. My goal is to use up 1/4 drawers of eyeshadow. I have only bought two makeup products in four months and that is a big step for me. I have nine drawers of makeup and I want to down size and you showed me this awesome solution. Thank you.

    3 1/2 years after you posted this video and it just showed up in my recommendations. I am subbing to more panning channels these days and removing "beauty guru's" channels..i am over consumerism, hype and having products/brands shoved down my throat. I have spent so much money on makeup in the past almost 2 years and I'm embarrassed. I've been wanting to start project pans, and shop my stashes, but I get overwhelmed trying to pick products and literally don't even know where to start. I've asked project panners if they had a starting out video or a helpful video for those of us who are new to this lifestyle and nobody does... then I see this video. THANK YOU.

I am going to do both finish 7 by spring and 5 by cinco. For what really helps me is being a couponer. I get my shopping fix every week getting tons of stuff for free and tons of makeup for free most weeks. It's exciting to know I never have to pay for drugstore makeup again. Amber, thank you so much for this video. I have recently acknowledged a makeup buying addiction that I have had over the last few years. I too got caught up in the buybuybuy mentality the CZcams enables. I knew I had a problem but it wasn't until I discovered the Project Pan Community and ultimately Lauren Mae's Tube Talk about shopping addiction that I started making changes. I changed up the kind of people I followed, watched more Anti-Hauls and while I have yet to do a official "project pan" I have been making an effort to use things up in my collection. In 2017 I started a challenge in which I picked one item from different categories and used them for a full week, in the attempt to decide if I wanted to keep it or declutter it. Plus I made a huge dent in using up my shower gels and lotion sets (that is until I discovered the huge stock pile under my daughters sink! ACK!) After taking a makeup inventory in January I think I'm ready to try some Low and No Buys in different areas of my collection and I think I'm going to tackle a "Use up 18 in 2018" project pan, focusing on all my non cruelty free items. Which I was pleasantly surprised didn't make up a large portion of my collection. Thank You again and Wish Me Luck!

    Gerat video, Amber. I remember lollipop26 doing the first project 10 pan. Another idea for you and your viewer might be a project 3 lips or project 5 face, meaning to use up specific products. I never had the feeling to do a 10 pan project, but I did no buys for 6 weeks or 2 month, which worked for me pretty well. I will do a makeup-nobuy while fasting period.

    Amen to not forcing yourself. I absolutely despise the creme blush that I am panning. I managed to hit considerable pan (even got to side pan) I use it as lipstick, blush, and color correcting. But I am reaching the limit especially after finding out that Summer Fling by MUG has been discontinued and that's why I was panning it. 😭

      You've done awesome so far with it! I get so sick of cream products that I do not purchase them anymore. For the longest time I bought potted lip products from Buxom, Clinique, and more because they looked so pretty but I would get tired of them so fast! I am proud of you for hitting side pan because that is AMAZING! I think a break is well deserved and then after a few weeks away from it maybe you will be inspired to pick it back up again because we will be well into summer and it will feel on trend.

    I don't know if you made a video already, but I would love to know which products you grew to love/hate after using them for a long time. Thanks hun!

      inalcanzable68 I too am a sucker for deals! Its so hard to pass up but its never too late to start panning!!!!! The biggest change panning for me was gold eyeshadow. I was livid to see I had so many pans of gold in all my palettes when I loathed wearing it. It was the reason I started on the naked palette because it was my oldest pan of gold and I wanted to prove to myself that I could at least hit pan. That loathing slowly turned to tolerating and then again to appreciating and now I consider it a staple in summer makeup. I don't like it the rest of the year but now I have a way to get through more pans and move them out. I changed opinions on "holy grail" essentials because I got completely sick of them after repurchasing backups because I was lured in by packaging and not the product. I really get down the the pros and cons of a product when I strip away the hype and the packaging. Using it everyday shows me exactly how it will react with my skin during any hormone phase I go through so I truly see how that brand performs for me. I am much more informed when I shop because I don't get sucked into the packaging anymore. I look at the products for what they are and how I use them when making those decisions now.

    Great project pan intro video for the newbies like me. I'll be panning my Wet N Wild Comfort Zone eyeshadow palette & doing Thrifty Beauty's finish 7 by spring challenge. I'm hoping I can stick to a low buy since I'm trying to cut back my spending in general. It'll be a challenge since I'm constantly watching CZcams and I have a beauty channel myself.

    Hi Amber! I love love love your videos!
    I am officially joining the Project Pan 2015 Party!
    Coastal Scents is having their end of year 40% off sale and I just ordered 5 of their clear top empty palettes (the ones for 12 eyeshadows because their size is more practical to take it with you when you are on the go than the ones for 28...) If I want to place powders or bronzers I just pop off the insert and ta da! Waaaaay cheaper than Z palettes !! Just wanted to pass that around ;-)

      Amen to that! You've worked so hard to de clutter but like anything in our lives-when you empty space you need to re channel and fill it with something healthy and positive or you eventually spiral out of control with even more than you started. Panning and connecting is that positive change to fill that space. Here's to new beginnings!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Amber, I don't do videos or have much influence, but you do. Do you think it would be a good idea to use the "back to MAC" idea for a no/low buy? A sort of "back to ME" works similarly in that for every six full size products used, one may be purchased. This has worked for me in reducing my inventory and not depriving myself completely.

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 9 lety +1

      M. Wooley If that works for you then by all means, go for it! I will have back to MAC items as well because I will have to continue repurchasing Fix + (my no-buy only includes colorful items). If it takes the edge off and then you have the bonus of getting that lipstick or eyeshadow for free, then its a win-win for you. You still clean out your stash, you use products to the end and you are recuperating a little bit of the money you spend. There is no right or wrong way to project pan; you do what works for you and when you hit stumbling blocks, you try new tips till you hit your groove again:)

    @waymire01 Před 9 lety +2

    I just don't get the point I guess.
    I understand reducing new purchases.. shopping your stash.. knowing what you have.. reducing duplicates.. purging..etc. I've even reduced certain areas of my collection to one HG item (bronzer, highlight, setting powder, brows) and just repurchase when I run out.
    "Panning" or using one particular item until it is gone then moving to the next just makes no sense to me.. I'm hoping you can explain it because as popular as it is I must be missing something. Let's say I have three blushes (I don't, I have probably 40 but just to make it easy). If I wear one of them every day it will take me at least six months to a year to go through it, based on how long it takes me to use a bronzer (of which I only have one and I usually have to replace it every nine months or so). In that same amount of time the other two blushes get no use. So in the end it still takes me just as long to use those three blushes.. the only difference is I'm stuck using one color every single day (which may or may not coordinate with my other makeup or clothing choices). If I used all three of the blushes, rotating between them, they would be finished in the same amount of time yet I would have variety and options. In the case of cream products or anything that has a shorter expiration time it's even worse.. I would finish one, and have the other two go bad/dry out by the time I did or shortly thereafter meaning I would get no use out of them at all. Even if we increase the number of items it doesn't seem to make a difference.. if I have ten blushes and choose three to pan it will still take just as long to finish them all.. only seven of them will be sitting in a drawer untouched until I finish the first three. The last one would be sitting in that drawer for over six years (!). What happens when you do finish the item? You go right back out and replace it, defeating the entire purpose of using it up, or you never use it again (or at least not for the next several years.. if it's still available by then)? Then you have LE items.. if you blast through it and use it all up it's gone.. forever.. but if you rotate it with other items you could have it for years. Not trying to be difficult.. just trying to understand.
    It seems to me consistent rotation is a much more logical approach. You are using as many of your products as possible, and they are all getting as much use as possible, until the time they are no longer usable.

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 9 lety +2

      I see where you're coming from and you can still call it "panning" even when you switch products all the time. Like I talked about, the ultimate goal is to get close to your ideal holy grail collection and be able to enjoy products before they expire bc unfortunately, that is a reality. None of it lasts forever and it's heartbreaking to put hard-earned money into these products to have them turn rancid bc we save them for a reason or we use them a few times but don't properly sanitize them so they start expiring faster. There's no right or wrong way to pan; it's about using and enjoying those products that you've invested in.

  • @AnniePBeautyDefyingAge

    I think I should start this because my addiction on buying all this unnecessary makeup has gotten out of control

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 6 lety

      Its never too late to start! You can always begin with a handful of items that you love so you can ensure yourself some success and when that initial satisfaction kicks in you will want to take on a little more. When I first started project panning my goal wasn't a number but I gave myself a time frame of about 6mo. I knew I needed to move out makeup with an impending move and I also wasn't sure where to start. 6mo later from that start date I had a bath and body works paper sack filled with empties-I kept them all to show myself what I was capable of doing. Then when we moved I decided ok-lets see what I can do in a year and I haven't looked back! Give yourself some grace because you may still buy quite a bit of makeup especially in the early days-I certainly did. In time after panning different types of products you will get more of a general idea of your personal pace whether its eyeliner, a powder, an eyeshadow, a gloss etc and that will in itself steer how you will continue shopping. Its always a learning curve but even when you feel like you take a step backwards, you are still learning. I am still learning and I've been panning for years now!

    i have a question, while i go through a lot of my makeup regularly, specially the last two years, i don't like eyeshadow palettes & i have A LOT. i bought the naked 1 & 2 when each first came out, i'm convinced to pan them & move them out my collection, but the half baked shade doesn't look good on me & i hate it, do i throw it out or what? cause its in both palettes & i barely used them (i love specific shades, when i am done with palettes i am sticking to individual shadows so i can pick what i like, i don't want to compromise having shades i'll never use for few shades i like)

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 9 lety

      Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh girl! You and me both with the gold eye shadow;) In the beginning I forced myself to wear it and then as I got used to it I tolerated it and then it turned to love. Try panning half-baked from either in the summer and wear it with a bronze in your crease like smog or a dupe from another palette you want to incorporate. 1) your makeup is seasonally appropriate 2) you will enjoy it more when you're spending more time outside putting a little color on your skin. Gold is stunning with warm skin tones. Sam (rising water) layers greys like Lorac pro "slate" on top of gold to take the harshness out of both warm and cool and the result is stunning!

      Amber F Good idea! Cause I do have favorite shades from each palette that I'm sure I could pan. When those run out, I can start working on others. Can I ask you: When you finally hit pan on a favorite shade out of a palette... Are you tempted to go get that palette again? Also, if you run out of a whole palette (like you did with the Naked) do you immediately repurchase?

    Hey! Love ur channel, I've been following u on instagram for awhile and I decided to check out your channel! I'm debating on if I want to project pan on my urban decay naked 1 palette, but I think it's gone bad and has expired cause the eye shadow formula isn't the same nor is the color pay off as good. The eyeshadows almost seem like cheap, low quality eyeshadow nw. I've had the palette since January of 2012.. do u think it has gone bad?

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 9 lety

      Holly Marie It all depends on how you stored the eyeshadow if its bad. Remember that the naked palette formula in your palette is going to feel much different because UD changed the formula with the release of their 15th Anniversary palette. The payoff also changed with the new formula. I had no issues with mine but I make sure to regularly sanitize my palettes with a spritz of alcohol and keep them stored in a dark, cool drawer when not in use so they are fairly protected from breaking down. I purchased my palette in 2010 and had 0 problems panning it last year so you might try it to get reused to the formula or try scraping off the "hard pan" on the top to reveal the softer shadow below. Let me know how it goes and I hope you jump into the challenge with your Naked Palette or any other palette you love from your collection!

    • @xoxoHolliee57
      @xoxoHolliee57 Před 9 lety

      When you sanitize your palettes with alcohol, do u spray the eyeshadows? I will try scrapping off the hard pan as well. Thanks for your help!! :)

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 9 lety

      Yes. Just get a little travel spray bottle and you can get the big bottles of isopropyl alcohol. It doesn't matter if its 70% or 90% because that's just drying time. I sprit across the palette a few times and leave it open a few minutes so the shadows don't smell like alcohol. Let me know how it goes!

    I have a problem with buying lipsticks, stains, glosses (you get the idea) and then only using them once or twice before going back to plain old chapstick for everyday wear (what the hell??there are no answers) I have so many lip products and most of them are almost the exact same shade - I'm awful!

    • @beudmama
      @beudmama  Před 9 lety +1

      I completely understand!!!!!! Been there! Years ago I was in a major rut buying the same pinky-brown mauve over and over! It is cracking me up that very color is the color of the year now. While I don't have those lipsticks from years ago anymore, I still realized I've got quite a few of that shade so I'm looking at the positive-I will have a very informative shop that stash with loads of options:) You know? There is an answer to your lipstick conundrum! Catch two birds with one stone! You love lip balm so apply it and then use your lipstick on top for the sheer look you crave and then you whittle down both products together. Take it up a notch on lipstick days and pop the gloss in the center of your lips for a pouty look and voila! Lip balm is easy and I can see you're reaching for it bc it's cold, you get the protection and it's no muss, no fuss. So make the tint from your lipstick and you can change it up when you feel like it!
