    Congrats on getting it running! Gotta love it when an abandoned car comes back to life, especially after all the spaghetti alarm wire deletion. Also good hear that the noisy lifter quietened down after the warmup. Engine runs so nice that it seems a shame to yank it. That said, you did promise us a turbo swap - almost double the horsepower is a worthwhile goal!
    BTW - sounds like the engine is fighting the starter a little; might be a bit advanced (unless the battery's weak). I'd check the base idle with a timing gun just to make sure it's set to factory spec.

    Great bargain. I could have picked up a 2002 cabrio with 20K original miles two years ago for $ 1200.00 bucks, but passed on it because the timing was not right for me UGH. Still kicking my self in the butt. Live and learn. Grate video your fast motion video makes everything look easy, but as retired mechanic I know a knuckle buster when I see one ! Thanks, RickGTI…..🔧🇺🇸

    Excellent buy, you got a great deal on that cabriolet, great to see you got it up and running that was very satisfying to see. I can’t wait until you do the 1.8T swap. I enjoyed the video, I’m pretty sure the alarm wiring was the problem the whole time and that’s why the previous owners could not get the cabriolet to run, but it’s in the right hands now, you worked your magic on it and this is going to be one bad a$$ project, and a beast of a sleeper once it’s finished. Great content I enjoyed everything about this video, I’m looking forward to seeing more of this project. The best VW MK1 channel on CZcams 💯💯💯

    Those 1.8s have such a nice rumble to them. Almost a waste to pull it out. Don't like the 1.8t exhaust note. You are going to miss that! Pulled 2 different non-working aftermarket alarm systems from my cabrio after (of course) starting problems. I think your guess is spot on! I think you are a great automotive archeologist

    Alarms aren't bad, in and of themselves. If you've had problems with alarms, they probably weren't installed correctly. They very rarely are the cause by themselves. I've been putting them in for 26+ years. I've seen lots of crappy installs and had to fix them. It's no fun.

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 3 lety

    I got a 1992 volkswagen cabriolet and the problem is that when is in idle the bar gauge reads good oil pressure but the oil light comes on seems confusing because the bar gauge reads good oil pressure but light comes on

    • @Datmk1cab
      @Datmk1cab Před 3 lety

      what oil did you use my car did the same at idle oil light would come one but running it was fine put some 20w-50 and the problem was fixed

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 3 lety

      I would look into replacing the oil pressure sensor first to be sure its not a sensor issue before you dive too deep into anything else. Oil pressure as you know is the lifeblood of any car and not something you should take risks with. Thanks for watching, appreciate the comments, thanks so much for the support!! Cheers
