      I actually disagree with your breakdown of the "RVH fail". In the situation he was in I believe going into the RVH was not a bad decision, however it was his lack of awareness and anticipation of the pass to the man in front that cost him that goal. The man in front was being covered by his defenseman, so therefore he could really only shoot after recieving the pass, which means that all he had to do was use the momentum from squaring his body back up to the shooter to slightly bump off the post and be centered with the puck, and then shift his hands to be squared and the shooter wouldve had nothing to shoot at. I personally think that staying standing up wouldve made it actually harder to make that save than to just bump off the post. Love your vids and your podcasts btw keep them up, just thought I'd put my two cents in on the matter.

    • @MichaelConway1308
      @MichaelConway1308 Před 5 lety

      @@pillowsnmitts4372 Sure, you are correct he could have made a save if he bumped off the post. But the fact that he would have had to do that at all is the weakness of using the rvh in that puck position.

    • @pillowsnmitts4372
      @pillowsnmitts4372 Před 5 lety

      @@MichaelConway1308 I definitely agree with you, he could've stayed standing there and made the save as well. I just think that calling it an RVH fail is incorrect because it was his inability to read the play that cost him that goal, not the RVH. Also, bumping off the post and getting square only really takes about half a second to do which if you were standing up you'd want to do a bit of a shuffle out towards the shooter anyways and then drop into the butterfly as soon as he shoots because of how close he is to the net which I believe would've been a little harder to do than just bumping off.

    From a goalie coach, the main issue on the penalty shot was insufficient push strength on the backskate. You need to come out about another foot, and skate backwards hard enough to match the skaters speed. By the time he pulled the move, though it was an early reaction on your part, you had lost almost all momentum and were basically beached at the halfway point of the crease. Generating early momentum means you carry more into the slide-to-post and can basically run the player out of time and space by keeping the shoulders square with matched speed until you make contact with and seal the post. Great vids though, always a good watch !!

    Haven't learned the rvh yet or the vh for that matter, but as for myself I would have been in my "puck below goal line position", (standing, skate and pad flush to post, stick in position to deflect on ice pass) and then a good push to top of crease probably in butterfly to meet the deflection/shot. Watching the video I would say the opposing goalie was reaching to much with his stick and it would put him out of position and scrambling. Use the poke check on occasion as a surprise like you did in shootout.

    During a break away or shoot out, I would tell you to come out further, almost to the hash lines on the faceoff circles. This takes away options for the shooter and surprises him, because he's now forced to beat you with stick handling and your legs seem fast enough to stop the dekes in this league.
    Also, as a right handed goalie, if a player is moving from your left to your right, jam that stick out. Knock the puck or his stick, or even his skates. You can't let him come across the crease because he'll open you up all day.
    One day you'll be reliving your glory days of beer league hockey on the internet. Enjoy every minute of it till then. Haha... Good win!

    You are being way too hard on the other goalie for using the RVH, and it wasn’t really a fail. It seems as if you did this to fill up your 10 min video quota but idk. The RVH was’t that bad of a choice in this situation. His technique and awareness however, was what led to the goal. Their 2nd goal was a soft one by you, which could’ve been prevented with the RVH. From your videos we can see that you tend to use the VH over the RVH or a butterfly stance when there’s no need for the VH.
    I don’t mean to hate on you because I really enjoy your videos. But If we look back at your 4 last games (including this one), you’ve let in 4 soft goals by going in to the VH rather than using a butterfly or RVH (2nd goal this video, 1st goal from 23rd of june, and 1st goal and the 7th goal 17th of june).
    Sorry for being a "hating" on you, but keep up the good content man!

But instead, I just broke it down in this video since we scored on it. I still think it was the wrong save selection. Also I don't have a guota for my videos, they just typically end up being around that length.

    I know I’m really late, but I think what a lot of people don’t realize is that both the vh and rvh are useful in very specific situations. However I feel that that are very overused and can be punished heavily by a smart team. With regards to nhl goalies. When they use these movement incorrectly (however it does happen much less frequently) the end result is very much the same.

    I had pucks always popping out of my previous glove which was an RBK XLT or something like that. Either way, it was the same glove as the EFlex line like you’re using. It was a pro palm and the plastic in the cuff broke. I’m not sure why I couldn’t catch with it but when I switched to the EFlex 3, game ready with double T, I started catching everything. 2nd goal VH, not the best save selection but poor execution sealed your fate. It looks like your pad seal was not vertical to the post, upper body was turned out and toe of stick absolutely has to cover skate and post gap. Also, you were sitting back, making this a static blocking save rather than an active blocking save. The RVH was the way to go here for sure. I save the VH for post side drives to the net and a pass down low one timer or shot attempt. Don't get me wrong, I love the VH. But in this scenario, moving into the RVH glove forward takes care of a quick shot. And if there's a delay down low, towards the goal line, move the glove to cover the post to knee gap. With practise, this entire process can provide dynamic post coverage when the play transitions down low, Keep up the good work, I enjoy your channel.

    RVH fail, gloves forward on longer shots, skate on post, take ice by pushing off towards the shot point or deflection point. This goalie dose not have the skill to preform the RVH and should be using a different save selection in this scenario. I'm not poo pooing the RVH, if it was preformed correctly by a skilled tender this would have been an easy save. However, I highly recommend getting up to a standing position when the puck is moving towards the corner, it gives the tender more options for different attack scenarios.

      The Puck Stops Here I say you are better covered if you are down especially in a beer league because they are more likely not to get the puck up in that situation if you were unable to move off the post like you should be doing.

      @ThePuckStopsHere  Před 5 lety

      Although I agree that most players will not get the puck up like that, I still think that being in the RVH limits your ability to get off the post because you are leaning towards it. Unlike the NHL, most of us in beer league are not in peak physical shape and we are not as explosive as pro goalies. So mimicking them will typically backfire for use where as they would be able to stop it. This is just my opinion and I am no expert.

    I've watched many of you videos and noticed that you're struggling with your glove. I suspect that you aren't holding your gloves out in front of your body enough. This leads to making most of your saves being made in your peripheral vision, thus leading to mistakes and misjudging the shot. To build on that point, when you make a save on a shot farther back than you're suppose to, you will not have that visual attachment needed to make a nice clean glove save. Try holding your glove saves a little longer. This takes time to get used to, but when you do it'll make a big improvement to your current game. Products like the X-Tracker and Swivel Vision goggles will help you build these kinds of habit..

    It appears the problem with your glove is the way it closes, not the way you hold it. Your glove is jamming at the end of the crease where your stick belongs. The only way to fix that is by buying a new glove unfortunatley

      I had the same problem and it will feel sooo much better when you buy a new one. The best closing one is a warrior g4 pro

      I see, well I am not going to be buying a new glove any time soon but one day I will need a new set and I will look at alternatives for sure. Or if it continues to be a problem, I can send it to FactoryMad and they can rebuild/improve it.

    2:53 what the hell is that goalie thinking? Dude the puck is in the corner. Hug your post, grip your stick right, and don’t act so nonchalant about it. I’m not a professional goalie by any means and even I know how to play that scenario. If he treated the scenario as legit, maybe he would’ve been better prepared for the player out front, instead of going for a measly poke check

    The puck was below the goal line. So he was fine paddle down. The D should of tied the guy up.

      Luckily I had enough energy to stop them but yeah, for some reason I was really tired this game. It could have been from being out all day in the sun.
