Stephen the great thing about CZcams is that Sid is never before anyone's time, as he is always here on CZcams, archives are fantastic, and you can enjoy Sid James much more now in 2020 than in his peak of 1970.

Somewhere in the middle, in the mid 90s' was a largely forgotten attempt to exhume Jokers Wild, called 'Gag Tag'. It confirmed that the format should have been left to rest in its coffin, though it also confirmed something I'd long suspected: that Eddie Large was much funnier on his own.

Apparently he heard the dirty laugh first , then there was a smell of whiskey Sid looked terrible pale clammy, black eyes and said something vulgar Les took that to his grave...

Paul Merton is 20 years later than Barry Cryer- he peaked in the mid 90s while Barry Cryer peaked around 1969-70. Barry Cryer was the link between the Carry On team and Les Dawson and the Pythons and the rest of the late 60s-70s Oxbridge set. You can see him in walk-on parts in the Four Yorkshire men 1948 show sketch and the extended live-action part of the Series 2 MPFC intro.
Paul Merton was contemporary with Smith and Jones of NTNOCN (he wrote for them) and the Alternatives of the 80s. He was also one of the Comedy Store (Improv) Players. Definitely the generation after.
