We’ve already built our arsenals sticking within each of the brands, but what would it look like if you brought one from each brand? Well, today were going to find out by choosing one ball that is currently in production from Hammer, Ebonite, DV8, Brunswick, Motiv, Storm, Roto Grip and 900 Global, all with the hope of having the most well rounded set of options we can put together.
Remember, this is all meant for bowling on challenging conditions where choosing the right equipment can be tough. If this were an event with easier conditions, the choices would likely be different, but we need some options that control the lane and some that can generate downlane angle
But in any case, let’s start it off with our choice from Hammer. There’s a lot of good choices to choose from including the Envy Tour, the 3d offset attack and even the Widow 2.0 hybrid, but the one that differentiates itself above all the other brands is the purple hammer. Like I said when we built the brunswick arsenal, it’s the best urethane on the market today, and when it’s right on either side of the lane, it’s pretty darn hard to beat.
Speaking of Brunswick, my choice from the big B is the all new Mindset. Across their entire line, I think this one gives the best opportunity to knock all 10 over when it’s right. This choice was all about maximizing the opportunity to match up with the mindset as a situational piece in hopes it ends up being right.
Picking a symmetrical solid was the next decision I had to make. This one wasn’t easy as when we look across all the brands, there’s a ton of great options. But looking at the available options within each of the brands, the DV8 Verge Solid just made sense to me. Even though many of the other brands offer great options, within the DV8 line, the verge solid gives one of the best looks, if not the best look, when compared to the others under the same brand.
Then I had to round out the brands of Brunswick with my Ebonite pick. I really wanted to pick the new GB4 hybrid as the snappy shiny option, but I haven’t thrown it so I don’t know what it will actually give me. I’ve loved the polaris hybrid, but with having 8 options instead of 6, I wanted to go a different route and ended up picking the One Remix. This polished solid gives one of the most unique shapes across all the brands and rolls heavier than most other pieces of equipment through pins. This is again a situational option based on how the ball gets through the pins best to get the corners out as it will cross well with the mindset the next choice as The One Remix will be more forward through pins.
But then we need one more that will go sideways through pins. That leads me to one of my favorite releases of this season in the Black Venom from Motiv. I think it’s the best shaping ball that Motiv has in their line today and when paired with all of the other choices, gives a different path to the pocket and through the pins. With 8 options, having this kind of variety is just as important as the shot making that goes with it.
Three choices left from Storm Products, let’s start with the one that was easiest for me in the 900 Global Eternity. I think for strong pearl asyms, the Eternity is one of the best I’ve ever seen and with all the other controllable options we have already added to the arsenal, the Eternity allows us to open up the lane and play some angle in hopes of increasing carry percentage. Plus it’s pretty and that’s always a plus.
So with having the quick response asym picked out, what about a quick response pearl? Here’s where Storm and Roto Grip excel, but even with all the great choices, I actually picked the hyped pearl from Roto Grip. Why this over all the others you’re probably wondering? well, in a field of quick response bowling balls, it’s the quickest. I want this piece to go sideways off the spot downlane. No more compromising for the sake of control, this is the do or die option when we’re hunting a 240 game.
Then lastly, we have Storm products. With most of the corners of this arsenal rounded out, I went with the one I just think is their best piece, and the one I really would hate to leave at home. The Storm Night Road has been a workhorse for me and makes a shape that I just love. The blend of the inverted FE2 core with the REX pearl cover is just a match made in heaven, and simply put, when in doubt, get the night road out. - Sport
Now do it again, but without being required to use 1 from every brand. Meaning still a free agent, any brand, but you can exclude companies, or double-triple up on others if you desire.
There has to be some sort of restriction or context outside of my own preference, otherwise it’s too based on how I bowl personally which I acknowledge is unique and I face my own set of challenges.
With the limiting factor of 1/brand, it’s actually a more versatile arsenal for all bowlers, rather than JUST me.
So if I were to do anything with no brand restrictions, it would at least be builds for specific types of bowlers with the caveat that I am not in fact that type of bowler, and therefore it’s only so valuable of an opinion (as any are really)
I love you simply describer how each ball reacts without a too much inside baseball talk. Subbed!
Glad you liked it Brett
As I am a one handed thumb bowler Id love to see an arsenal build with explanation of ball choice, lane conditions, etc., with respect to that bowling style.
Taking a old Brunswick Prism Solid, old Hammer Tour Edition Hybrid, Radical Crypto, 3D Offset Attack, Radical Bigfoot Pearl, Purple Hammer, and a Radical Spy for spares. Aldo have a an old Brunswick Fanatic that I used when the lanes got dry but not sure if it will make the trip.
I like it! That fanatic is brings back some memories
need a urethane, but have old python and DV8 Termoil
Can't wait for Reno, it is my first time to Nationals.
Good luck out there Kevin!
I'm so surprised I missed this! I was looking forward to this video the most in the "best kineup" series months ago, and somehow missed it! I think maybe the name for the video was a little unfortunate. Perhaps next time go for "best overall lineup across all brands" or something to that effect?
Ben, as a fellow one hand, no thumb bowler, my ultimate dream video would be your opinion on 3 and 6 ball arsenals for people like us. Maybe a caveat would be how two hand bowlers may like it as well. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Mike. I’ll consider it!
Hey Ben, around 3:00 you mentioned that The One Remix goes forward through the pins, and that the Black Venom is the "sideways through pins" option.
Aside from just seeing people throw the ball on video, is there a coverstock or core attribute (rg/diff/int) that tends to make a ball more forward and less sideways? I very frequently leave 9 pins, so I want to learn to keep an eye out for things that will give me with shape without overdoing it.
(For reference, my Primal Shock, Venom Recoil, and Iron Forge all feel like they go way too sideways for me, and they have virtually nothing in common other than the M logo.)
Great question Lucas. Typically, and let me emphasize TYPICALLY, it’s a balance of differential and intermediate differential. The less of each, the more sideways I can get it to go sideways through pins, also known as continuation by some.
The One Remix has a TON of int differential which causes the core to get more end over end before getting to the pins, and therefore, doesn’t continue quite as much, thus going forward.
Good stuff Ben! My #1 Hammer Black Widow 2.0 solid, #2 Radical Bonu$ Pearl, #3 Motiv Pride solid (benchmark), #4 Purple Hammer, #5 Hammer Ocean Vibe, #6 Motiv Venom Shock, #7 Track Stealth, #8 Radical The Spy (spare).
That stealth, ocean vibe, purple hammer trio would be a great set of three if that’s all you could bring!
No Track or Radical worth mentioning?
They don’t send me stuff to review!
@@bowlersparadise2255 Ah, makes sense. Too bad because they have been putting out some real winners lately. Hopefully one day.
Hi Ben, looking for some advice, current arsenal is venom shock, carbide tank and spare ball. Looking for my next ball, debating between black widow 2.0 hybrid or TNT. Which would you pick, and if you had your choice, what would your next ball be? Thanks a lot
If you’re sold on one of those two, the Widow will give you a shape far different than the other two and would increase your shape options more than the TNT.
Purple Hammer is the 🐐🐐🐐🐐
That's what they say. Maybe we'll have to put that to the test...
what about swag bowlingballs they got some good stuff like the new graffti tracker
Radical Innovator solid
Hammer Black widow 2.0 Hybrid
Storm phaze 2
Storm IQ Tour Ruby
Purple Hammer urethane
W/D Diamomd for spares
Nothing wrong with that!
You forgot about Radical!😮
I missed Track and C300 too. It was intentional.
Again no HK22's picked. Maybe I'm seeing & feeling something different with these balls. They must too responsive off the dry for Nationals to not get any love. I think some out of the box finishes are wrong for their strengths but it's the best cover I've thrown in years especially when combined as the base with existing proven covers.
Let’s dissect this a little.
DV8 has the captiv8 and the brutal collision. The remix is better for me than the brutal when paired with the Mindset, and I haven’t thrown a captiv8, so if it has Hyroad numbers, I’m just gonna pick a Hyroad.
Brunswick has the defender hybrid, a piece I did not match up well with.
Ebonite has the envision pearl and the gb4 hybrid. Haven’t thrown the latter, and I liked the eternity more than the envision.
And how do you say no to a purple hammer?
I like HK22, but for these videos, they just haven’t been there.
@@bowlersparadise2255 have you tried a Top Speed or a Madness?
No we don’t get balls from C300, Track or Radical.
I don’t think the hyped pearl numbers are correct
Yeah probably not. I’m human. I make mistakes.
The numbers are right on the website. bit.ly/HypedPearl
@@bowlersparadise2255 Your Good. Love the videos. It’s nice to have a source that compares from all manufacturers
How do you not have the phaze 2 or IQ tour. Why would you ever want a ball to go sideways at nationals. Awful choice
😧 how dare I
