285/55/20 on my Tundra truck, I don't have any issues, but then again I didn't do a detailed analysis of the before and after effect of truck performance and etc. At the end of the day I don't notice a difference in performance or gas mileage, or with anything else and will replace with the same tire size in the future
Very nice, thanks for watching.
I have the Geolandars 275/70r18 on my F150. They have been great. Id like to bump up to 285/70r18 but there aren’t many options in that size. Was looking at Toyo AT3s but they are pretty pricy but weight is ok at 57 pounds.
I might just wind up staying in 275 as well just a bit more aggressive tread design.
Yes, the TOYOs are crazy high priced.
Yeah they are. I’ve appreciated the wet traction of the Geolandars as well and they are moderately priced.
The Baja Legend EXPs look interesting in 275. Weight is good at 55 pounds.
@@scottyeik weight of the tire makes a huge difference when it comes to performance and gas mileage.
I’ve been very happy with the Cooper AT3 XLT’s on my Tundra. Only negative has been Ice performance, but thats to be expected on an AT
I try to stick with the "Three Mountain Peak" designation tires on all my vehicles. Even though we don't get much of a winter anymore if I went with a regular tire it would surely start snowing that day. LOL
❤❤
I have 275/70r18 Toyo open country at3. I’m thinking next tires I’ll do will be 285/70r18 Yokohama geloander g003. Really want 285/75r18 but I’m not sure how the 285/75 would do with stock gears
Be aware of the weight of large tires. The performance and gas mileage does take a hit.
Just bought a 2017 Tundra with limited trim. The truck came with 275/R65 18. Would like to change to a 275/R70. 18. I assume no issues with rubbing by going to the R70? Stock set up suspension wise.
You will only have rubbing at full lock left or right in reverse. That is usually only with mud flaps. Before I had a lift, I used a heat gun to warm the mud flap and push it back giving me clearance. Thanks for watching.
Bought my 21 SR5 XP Xseries Tundra used and it came with 275/55R20's Nitto Ridge Grapplers which I hate and the 20" rim, I wish it had 18's. I've ran Falken Wildpeaks AT3W's on the Tacoma for many years and never have had any issues in the NE with them. Anyways, recently found a sweet deal on FB market place for a brand new set of Falken Wildpeaks AT3W's 275/55R20's, paid 1k for them and since installing them, the truck drives and rides so much better, not to mention a lot quieter. Personally I would stick to the same width but maybe go narrower. The Geo's are a great tire, but those new AT4W's look really nice also.
Yes, I’m still struggling with spending the money but we will see what happens real soon. Such a huge purchase and I don’t want to mess up.
I would almost stick with the stock size on the Wildpeaks I bought a set stock size but in 20 inch for my 2023 Ford F 150 which I am going to put on this spring on another set of wheels The 285's look good which I've had ,but like you said its quite a bump in weight plus unless you have a leveling kit they will be close to rubbing. look forward to seeing what you get
Thanks for the info. It’s such a hard decision because of the cost. Any week now I’m gonna pull the trigger. Thanks for watching.
Just picked up a 2017 Tundra with 35x12.5R20. As someone with a wide tire I can say in my opinion these are too wide since I am getting stones thrown on the side of my truck. With that said you are looking at around an inch narrower and depending on wheels you may not have this issue. I have already been looking at narrower tires myself. If your interested to see them I am in the 828 so probably not too far away
The 275s I have now extend out just even with the OE style flares. 285 would spray up the side a little. I think economics will keep my purchase centered on 275s. Thanks for commenting and letting me know about the stones flying up.
@@828findadventure What is the fuel tank capacity of a Toyota Tundra?
The wider the tire, the less traction. You'll never see a plow truck rolling wide tires, or at least not one that's stuck lol.
The bigger the footprint, the less load bearing pressure per square inch = less traction.
Wider also has more rolling resistance, which hurts mpg.
IMO 275 is the best median for practicality. But I agree, the 285 and wider looks killer!
And the price gets crazy over 275. Not that any tire is cheap. Some are like $400 each.
Another good point. Yeah, at some point you have to balance the "cool look" effect with real world practicality.
Sure, wider LOOKS meaner.... but real world, just why? Doesn't the Tundra get bad enough mpg for you already? 😂
PLUS you sacrifice traction, and also, on some level, your motor and driveline work harder to move the mass... very little upside to looking cool, IMO.
And IMO... 275 gives the look of a truck for WORK, not play. And truth be told, no matter how sweet your ride looks... nobody notices or give a F lol
Point being... nobody is ever gonna say, what a great truck... if only it had 285s instead of those lowly 275s!
