    In our review of the Tern GSD S00 LX we got hands-on with this electric cargo bike at Park City's Big Gear Show. The GSD means "get stuff done," and it'll do just that! It has impressive cargo capabilities, and you can even outfit it with a captain's chair in the back to haul another adult passenger.
    Thanks to quality componentry such as the Bosch mid-drive motor, 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes from Magura, and thoughtful frame design from Tern, this bike is serious about trying to get you in a car less, and on a bike more!
    In this review we were also able to speak with a Tern representative who helped give us further insight to what makes this bike so unique.

    At 7:10 , what is a "normal bike"?

    This bike looks great. I would have bought it in this configuration but wanted a full suspension cargo front carrier. I got the Riese & Müller Load 60 instead. Have been riding it all winter long in snow down to -30 C. With the gates belt drive and Rohloff transmission it’s a no maintenance all weather bike. I like Tern though! I also have the Tern Vektron!

      We commend you. That's some seriously cold weather to be riding in!

      @@ElectricBikeReport I think this bike should be able to handle down to -30 C as well. The main issue I don't know much about is if the nuvinci hub will have issues at that temperature. I know the Rohloff does not; shifting is as fast at those temps than in normal temps, or at least not enough to be noticeable. The other main mechanical consideration are the hydraulic brakes when running at really cold temps. You just need to make sure to pump the brakes to ensure they are working fine before riding.

    Much the GSD?

    A very slow, casual ride that comes with a hefty price tag.

    For a bike with so much done right it's amazing how badly they goofed by going with mid drive. They could have made this a zero maintenance cargo monster.

      do the mid drives require a lot of maintenance? I've always gone with hub drives because cheaper, but sounds so nice to be able to take off the wheels without the added hassle and mid drives have better torque.

    • @difflocktwo
      @difflocktwo Před 2 lety +2

      @@simba9844 A mid drive can be very low maintenance if designed correctly. But if you have the drivetrain exposed to dirt it will need much more maintenance. Also if you don't have regen braking you need to maintain your brakes more, especially if you have more cargo more often.
      A direct drive hub motor has no moving parts and provides very strong acceleration and very strong braking.

      @@difflocktwo but if the spokes on the hub wheel brake fixing them is no fun.

    • @difflocktwo
      @difflocktwo Před 2 lety

      @@LaustChristensen Same as fixing any other spokes. Also spokes are not mandatory for a wheel. If you would wish to avoid spoke maintenance there are a few options such as disk or cast wheels.

      @@difflocktwo The drivetrain here is a belt drive + IGH. That combo is the absolute gold standard for low-maintenance. This should be vastly lower maintenance than any chain-drive hub motor bike.

    just noticed, this bike is not about getting stuff done. No one can afford the gsd and those few that can afford it will have multiple cars and can get more done with their golf carts and SUVs.

    It’s not a mid tail.
