Could you please also shine some light on “self destructing, read, melting” plastics, especially wiring insulation and other rubber hoses used by Mercedes in some of their models? I once owned a W220 LWB, 3.2 petrol that had this problem, over time. Wiring (and small vacuum hoses, which the W220 had plenty, connected to different parts of the engine) started withering away, and electric short circuiting was common, especially on wet/humid days. Wiring inside the head lamp unit was particularly an issue. Is it still a possible concern with Mercs? And, is it an issue exclusive for Mercs? Taking a cue from your review about pre-owned W212, I am actively looking for ‘the ideal W212’ to buy. Thank you
It's a very common issue with merc. This was more prominent on w123 models too.
A recommendation of prices to look for would be much appreciated.

Along with the Annual maintenance cost the insurance for these cars are gonna be priced on a high slab, so before you buy it, I would suggest enquiring about the same and taking a decision there after. I think one of the biggest problem ll be the servicing, i guess. Those who doesnt have any prior knowledge regarding the faults (even if its minor), as of mentioned the ABS sensor, could be heart breaking😅
