In Israel, I made it my rule to only speak Hebrew to Israelis. And I had three girls in my dira who were Israeli or Swiss, so spoke to them in Hebrew. It's completely true, you must force yourself to speak Hebrew and not be afraid. Even though I studied Hebrew in school for years, when I got to Israel I couldn't understand a word. By the end of the year I was fluent. And now many years later, I am able to pick up where I left off! Your videos are very helpful - and Elsa speaks m'tzuyan.

You should have done a full-time ulpan which takes total beginners to proficiency in about 6 months.

I have problems with my financial condition and I don't have how to pay a course, so I'm searching some channel and websites to learn hebrew from zero to advanced, it's not like English that we can find everywhere and so much videos. Hebrew is really difficult to find material to study.

At Hebrew U my purpose was to learn Ivrit, educated Ivrit, so took all my classes with Israelis from the regular catalog. This was "lifnei shanim rabot". Your videos are a help even to someone with substantial background.

So true!!! Understanding the pealim and grammar is everything especially in Hebrew. Itâs literally what keeps one from actually speaking the language. I experienced the same thing!! Most ppl like to put it on the back burner at least they donât think itâs important to explain.. but itâs how the language is spoken

Your content is the only channel that I have found very helpful for Hebrew at my intermediate level. It is entertaining, funny, and informative while I understand most of what you guys are talking about. Most other Israeli shows are much more difficult to understand. This comes from someone from the USA who has learned only from some Duolingo, closemaster, and a wife that speaks Hebrew with her parents but gets annoyed by my Hebrew grammar and pronunciation mistakes and will only speak to me in English! Keep up the excellent work!

I lived in Israel for two years; one in Tel Aviv and one in Or Yehuda. I never learned the language because I got a job where everyone spoke English. Whether from Israel, the US, Canada, Spain, Russia, etc., they all spoke English at work. Outside of work, they spoke Hebrew, but that didn't help me. I wish I had had these videos to watch and this wonderful advice about websites and methods. I couldn't get past the verbs! I couldn't carry on a conversation or understand them properly because I never was able to grasp the verbs. I finally gave up and brought my family back to the U.S. That was in 2015 and I've wished a 1000 times that I had stayed.

We were given a chart of the binyanim in school in the US, and told to memorize the binyanim. It was impossible. But when I spent a year in Israel, I found I was speaking in binyanim naturally, in the moment. It's the only way to learn binyanim is not to study them at all! Just live in Ivrit.

The concept of your channel is amazing! So much more interesting and relevant than the typical text book convo a la "Hi I am Sarah. What is your job? Yes I have a cat."....
I am obsessed already and I just found you. Have been on a break with learning Hebrew but while watching I felt so keen on learning a few more words now, and also I was happy that I recognised some of the words that you've used. Shows me that if I had a bigger vocabulary, I would probably not struggle with recognising the different words in a whole naturally spoken sentence, compared to the very highlighted pauses in language course audios. Idk if that makes sense bc english isn't my first language either. Very motivating!

Excellent advice for learning the language, most of it works for other languages as well!
When studying French, I used a grammar book in French, no English or Swedish!
This forced me to learn how French works⊠ie I didnât translate. I am far from an expert in French, but the feeling is that French differs from Swedish in the way the choose to express or convey the message. Some idioms are the same, but I can still sense the difference.
I can imagine that Hebrew is even more important to try to get how to think in Hebrew rather than translating!

Very useful tips I also use pealim, even for pronounciation. That is for me most difficult to know which vovels the word has. I havent fouund many resources with transliteration.

I grew up speaking a very fine sort of English (thanks to Ivy League father who was a stickler for proper language) and Hawaiian Pidgin / Pacific Creole English, and I haven't the slightest idea what "conjugation" is, and it appears I'll have to learn actual grammar rules to learn Hebrew! From my experience, learn verbs first. Then learn items such as fruits, vegetables, meat, etc in a group. This is easy because you can get these items on the web. After this, and the most important thing, is to immerse your yourself in Hebrew like an ulpan. Unfortunately, trying to understand israelis speaking hebrew is impossible.

(I speak English/American too as I lived more than 12 years in the USA and 20 in the UK; I must underline, as much as I love English for some of its usefulness, it has got quite some limits. One is that English is indeed, harder to pronounce, for example, than Hebrew! Many times in the UK, British folks do not get what one can say in English as their autochtone English accents are many on the island and that is quite some workout).

Je parle français (je le suis), anglais, américain et j'améliore encore mon espagnol latino-américain (mexicain car j'ai vécu 12 ans en Californie du sud et costaricien car j'ai vécu 1 an à Long Island NY au sein de la diaspora costaricienne NY).
Et aussi maintenant, aprÚs avoir lutté avec un peu d'hébreu et de grec voire de russe pour s'en tenir à l'hébreu ! J'expliquerai ci-dessous pourquoi. Une langue est une maniÚre de penser et de résoudre les problÚmes d'une certaine maniÚre ainsi que d'expliquer les spécialités de certains pays de l'artisanat à la sagesse populaire : d'où pourquoi, en 2100, il y aura ENCORE environ 3000 langues et des dizaines de langues internationales (comme souligné scientifiquement en 2020 ).
L'anglais est utile et continue pour ses bienfaits en certaines affaires et de la diplomatie du premier degré, mais pas comme avant ! Maintenant, et je ne parle pas politiquement mais diplomatiquement; du fait que Trump a été élu aux Ãtats-Unis pour quatre ans et que des millions d'extrémistes trumpistes sont là , ainsi que du Brexit (bien que je comprenne pourquoi la Grande-Bretagne l'a fait) avec son confinement, et trop de grandes entreprises comme Amazon, Apple et plus ne paient pas assez d'impÃŽts sur les territoires de l'Union Européenne en l'évitant via l'Irlande ou le Luxembourg (nous n'avons pas, en tant que personnes, ce luxe), l'anglais sera désormais remplacé diplomatiquement, dans certaines transactions commerciales internationales et la coopération diplomatique / culturelle par l'espagnol, le russe, l'hindi, le français, le portugais, le russe, le polonais et plus encore. Je dois sérieusement revenir à l'hébreu! Je ne peux pas faire toutes les langues car j'en aime tant !
Mais, c'est la sixiÚme fois que j'y reviens. Pourquoi? Eh bien, je suis toujours étonné que ce soit une langue ravivée : (en plus, elle est bien réutilisée dans bien des diasporas juives/israéliennes du monde). Il est incroyable que dans le monde, l'hébreu soit parlé par au moins plus de neuf millions de personnes et cela grandit !

I usually buy / borrow from the library the paper version and read along
You can also buy a digital version of the book on a website like www.e-vrit.co.il/ but then you have to read on your phone and I personally don't like it

Wow... in my native Provoc means I dare so related :)) im here searching how to learn French & Hebrew at once... yeah, ik, a big waste of time searching as it is like with any other two languages you start to learn at once -and you need to have different levels in both & to be pretty different one from another for it to not be a fail... but ig my nr 1 is French (yeah, making illusion since my native is a Romanic language, Romanian, highly influenced by French...
Firstly, I started with French in the first year of Faculty then in lockdown I felt in love with Hebrew (yeah, why I even needed it -sometimes I'd be likeð) but I don't regret it... not much... I've learnt so much other things other than Hebrew, I learnt culture, how it was formed, etc, etc. And became interested in Judaism and I even began to think lately (um, maybe I have a jewish soul, which I highly doubted at a time cs it can happen to anyone to like anything it doesn't mean that person is really for that, yeah... ð anw,, such a love story.. so now looking for new ways to relearn them both...
It would be a way to write vocab of both not using an intermediate (peut-etre it will work... yeah, so I am... but anw,

If I listen to the Torah/Bible in Hebrew will it be the same Hebrew that is spoken today? Is there an Audio book you can recommend that is good? I want to play it to hear the language all day.
It's very different! There is plenty of good books but its important to choose books that suits your level.
You could download the Storytel app and search for many good books in Hebrew.

What movies, shows would you recommend? I've only seen Hatufim and Lehiyot Ita, I wasn't a fan of the colorism aspect in Lehiyot Ita.

I'm russian and sometimes I pronounce ך a lot like × too! Not sure what to do with that, maybe you have some tips? I'm just starting out and I want to avoid adopting wrong speaking patterns as much as possible.
