We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

First of all; your enthusiasm is contagious! However, my two recommendations, would be Bucharest, Romania and Tirana, Albania. As a solo traveller, I hardly go to restaurants. However, those two cities have many great museums, beautiful architecture (especially Bucharest), and a very interesting history. AND they are very affordable!
thanks Rita!
I'm a solo traveler and go to restaurants all the time. Just not expensive ones. I hate cooking in an apartment and eating alone when I could be outdoors exploring and eating at a place that looks interesting (always ask locals for recommendations!). I found the key to food savings is to eat a light breakfast and then dinner (or whatever meal they offer) between 3 and 5 p.m. Dinner typically costs twice as much as lunch. You can snack a bit during the day (buy a to go sandwich and coffee and enjoy your lunch in a central park!). Just my input.
Yes, another vote for Tirana, Albania here. Also, as I am sure Mark knows, Berlin. I am always surprised how little we seem to spend when visiting there.
Last year I travelled Poland. Three cities Krakow, Wroclaw, Warsaw I visited. Peoples there are really beautiful and cordial, helpful. In two cases I was in trouble to buy tram tickets, when I asked help from fellow passengers then they simply bought tickets for me and my wife. When I tried to repay in cash they simply refused to take with smile. I remember their warmth for an unknown tourists like us.
Hi :) I know your comment is from a while back, but can I ask you whether you would recommend Wroclaw or Warsaw? I am in doubt between the two and you were in both :)
Did you take the waaaaaAAAAAAalk.... ? To Polaaand??
@@Snowshowslow im a Pole, I'd choose Krakow, it's more medevial, has lots of beautiful bridges and amazing architecture. Warsaw is really modern and western, it's nice but nothing special about it imo
@@jaculaa01 I understand that choice :) But I have already been to Krakow and I was looking to go to Gdansk and another city that is new to me. Krakow is definitely beautiful, though!
@@Snowshowslow oh sorry, I meant Wrocław not Kraków.
One of the best cheap towns i've been to are Ljubljana ( Slovenia ), Dubrovnik ( Croatia ), Mostar ( Bosnia & Herzegovina ), Kotor ( Montenegro ), Zlatibor ( Serbia ), Ohrid ( Macedonia ), Nasebar ( Bulgaria ) & Krakow ( Poland ). Really cool places to visit if your into history and good food!
Yeah and bosnia very cheap
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the feeling of coming out of the train station in Monastiraki straight from the airport, and turning around and seeing the acropolis for the first time. Truly amazing (and the food in Athens is super cheap and delicious)
Emily Clement: If you ever go to Athens again you should visit the neighbourhood of *Anafiotika* It's located directly below the Acropolis and one of the first neighbourhoods of Athens. It's full of neo-classic houses and if you climb high enough you'll see magnificent views of the city. I discovered it when I was getting lost in the winding streets. Lovely! Also I discovered a lake in southern Athens. It was called *Lake Vouliagmeni* and is located in the suburb of Vouliagmeni and approx. a 30 minute taxi ride form down-town Athens. Worth it.
Undoubtedly athens had one of the most amazing food I ever had🤤
yes ur right what u saying
The food was good but I would not say it's cheap. Just returned from there - the historical places are good to see.
Jessica Emily I live in Athens. Now there is a revolution in Athens. They build too many new hotels and the most of them are 5 stars. Many new restaurants at the centre and it starts the hellinikon project. At a land in Athens at the sea that used as airport many years before they build a new city only for entertainment with houses hotels casino resturants clubs malls gardens marinas beaches aquarium and many more. The size of this new city in Athens is 3 time the monaco and its the biggest project in europe. The design of this city is from architect norman foster.Next years Athens will become one of the best tourist destinations in the wold. Its one of the safest cities too with the best weather.
Krakow is such a beautiful city, I studied there and lived for 10 years. It's also where I met my husband. Love your channel, greeting from Poland :)
Poland is the best country of the world, with an excellent people. May god bless you.
I'm actually in Krakow right now and part of the reason I decided to come see this city was because of your videos on it. It's absolutely gorgeous and I'm very happy I came! On the off chance you will read this comment, thank you.
Krakow is beautiful. Where are you from?
Went to Porto and Lisbon last year, both were great but Porto was especially beautiful.
Krakow is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Great, friendly people, excellent restaurants, tourist sites, and I can go on and on. Lisbon is beautiful, too, and has a great climate. Good pics, Walter!

I celebrated my 54 bday there. Yes lovely
Im from india.....can u help me how much money will it take to do 1 month trip in europe????
I love also Krakow.. I've been there twice, also in Wieliczka saltmine and Auschwitz.
My brother's godparents thou have travelled almost every country in the world, even been in the cruise for Antarctica and they say that Tallinn is the world's most beautiful city.
Informing us about the delicious food is my favorite part.
My favourites are; Skopje, Prestina, Split, Naples, Palermo, Masala, Amalfi, Barcelona, Bratislava and a little further, Tel Aviv.
I am from Austin, and so watched your video on the city to see if you made credible videos. I have since watched many of your videos to inform my upcoming travels! Your kids are lucky to have a dad that instills an appreciation for new places, people and experiences. I am sure they will grow into great people
I'm in Porto again mark and it was watching your videos that made me decide to come here. I love it.
Awesome!
Great vlog Walter ❤️ I’m heading both Krakow and Dubrovnik this year. Can’t wait 😊
I love travelling around Europe. Generally speaking I have found southern and eastern Europe to be more affordable than northern Europe. Loved Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, & Portugal.
Thessaloniki, Greece should be on your list! Beautiful city, great food, incredible nightlife.. and cheap of course!
Oh I love Thessaloniki 😍
SALONIKA REEEEEEEEEEEEE
Its beautiful and really needs the economy. It was the worst hit during the recession so people need to go and enjoy it! I'm sure it's a lot better than before, but could always use the boost
Lots of history too
Awesome information as always! We've been to a few of these places but now we have some more on our list!
This summer I was blessed to see Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. Coming back to the states has been quite the European hangover lol. Ready to get back to Europe!! Thanks Wolters World for the great videos and suggestions!!
I haven’t been to the Baltics yet, but this list is spot-on! I’m glad to see Krakow getting some love as well as Portugal. I think Split, Croatia also deserves a spot somewhere on the list.
Split is disgusting
Baltics are awesome, especially during the summer month.
Valencia is amazing, glad to see it in the ranking
Omg exactly the video I needed at the moment. Thank you!!!
Thank you , as always for the inside scoops!
Istanbul!! Loved it and miss it! Great food, great sightseeing, and I came home with so much money.
I was literally standing where you are in this video, I visited Krakow mainly from your poland video about Krakow, and how cheap it is. youre a blessing!
thanks! i wish i could rock like you! My guitar skills are limited to 4 chord songs :) Caleb is already way better than i ever was at guitar
Four chords is all you need :D
Great video! We just visited Dubrovnik last week and loved it! We walked the walls, and we drove south about 30 minutes and found the coolest beach! We've actually visited and loved quite a few of these cities and a few others are definitely on our list!!
Love , love , love this video! Great content!
Dubrovnik prices have more than tripled in the last two years, It's about as expensive as Venice now unfortunately. I bought two noodle boxes and two beers and it cost me 31 euros!
Croatia itself is getting more and more expensive. I think it's a normal thing since economy is growing. Tourism also, is booming rapidly. But yeah, Dubrovnik prices are insane. Parking is a fucking nightmare.
It really depends on where you buy, from my experience there, but it and Hvar are easily the most expensive places in Croatia, by a wide margin
What a concept. A city turning its lights out for a few days to save money. You can just imagine the stargazing possibilities.
Good for the environment too!
Battle5star He meant illuminated buildings, not traffic lights.
Great video! This will come in good use when planning our trip to Europe this year.
Thank you for the video, great suggestions. You seem like a really happy guy who is loving life.
There is a train that connects Prague, Bratislava and Budapest. It is insanely cheap. For the ride from Budapest to Bratislava we paid 9€ per Person and this was not a slow train, took us only two and a half hours. Worth checking out.
Cornelia A. Hey, I'm just thinking about going to Budapest (I'm from Prague). Where did you find the train pretty please?
MaxatorCZ We just went to the station and asked at the international travel counter in Budapest. Maybe you can do the same in Prague?
All I know is: The station is called Budapest-Nyugati. According to my 'Deutsche Bahn' App there is an EC that takes 6.28h from Prague to Budapest-Nyugati. It must be this train. I hope that helps.
Cornelia A. I'll try it out, thank you!
Yes I agree. I took the train from Budapest to Bratislava and after a day or two onto Vienna and they were very cheap. Anyone thinking of going to Bratislava one day is enough. There is very little to see and it's tiny.
@@CRyan71 LOL how arrogant can someone be.. Dear, I was leading German school classes through Bratislava. We started at 9.00 from train station with about half hour lunch break at 12.30 and the kids fall down at four totally exhausted and denied to continue 😂 At this time I was able to show them purely the main tourist attractions 😂 So, pls, stop trolling if you have no idea!
Been to 7 out of the 10 cities, loved each one of them :)
You have helped me so much!!I put your videos on and do the treadmill.Your a life changer for exercises, that awesome..thank you!
Great video. We have added a lot of these to our TO SEE list.
Nice video, thanks for posting. Looking forward to seeing more. Could you do some European budget tips for mobility challenged and seniors, including accommodations and eating please? I'd love to do as much of "The Grand Tour" as I physically and financially can, so I would encourage you to consider doing a series in that vein. It seems to be a wide open spin on travel genre that hasn't been addressed very well as of yet. Could get you a bigger audience!!! You could be among the first, or maybe even THE first, to get a corner on that angle!!
Riga is so beautiful 😊 delicious food and cheap places where stay!
Yepp, Riga is one of my favorite European cities.
Thanks for your advice . 💐- Retirement ,time to travel . I love your enthusiasm ,you giving me wings😉 . Cheers 🥂
Highly valuable information! Thank you sooooo much!
Going to Portugal in June! Whoot!:)
Dubrovnik is so expensive! I rather would include Sofia, Bucharest, or St.Petersburg.
It's only expensive depending on where you eat and the type of accomodation you stay at.
I rented a one bed apartment a few minutes from the old town (had an amazing balcony view) for 50 eur/night. And I didn't eat out in restuarants in the old town as they charge a lot. Most things to do in Dubrovnik don't require spending much money.
I wouldn't necessarly include it in a list of the most inexpensive cities in Europe to visit though, as there are cheaper alternatives, although very few places compare to it.
I used to see Croatian cities in the list of "cheap places" in many blogs. I think their price blew up thanks to Game of Thrones, and then now people are starting to go to Croatia after they placed 2nd in the world cup. Zagreb is still a lot cheaper, but everybody keep saying it's not really worth visiting long.
Couldn't agree with you more! I find it meh and too touristy to my liking too. My personal favorite cities in Croatia are Rovinj and Zadar though.
Greetings from Hong Kong!
Dubrovnik is expensive!!! And not authentic... And Prague is full of scams... Check out Sofia, Tbilisi and Sarajevo. Those are truly cheap and super authentic, they don't look to you like an stupid tourist wanting your dollars, but grateful that you visit their country.
@@carloscaminando true... Sofia is really beautiful
Hey thanks for all your videos! I’ve been watching them non stop for about two years. I think it’s great you get to live this amazing kind of life but at least let us know what it’s like a bit!
Love this video and topic. Please do more!
I went to Poland in 2015 and I loved it! The zloty (at that time at least, dunno if it changed) was valued at about 1/3 of a USD, but what was cool was the NUMBER AMOUNT for things was the same as US. So if a bottle of coke is $1.50 USD at home it was 1.50 zloty, but because of the conversion it was more like 50 cents US!
What a Wonderfull Video Mark.. This is what i wanted to see it Europe. Nothing against the busy city but this is cool. Bravo au revoir
I think you were one of the people who wrote and asked me to make this a couple years agp
I always refer to your videos when planning a trip to central Europe! Thank you so much for your beautiful work!!
Excellent video, thanks Mark!
Dubrovnik is really nice city but make sure to visit it couple of years from now when the GoT’s popularity drops a little. It’s too crowded and prices are too high for Croatia
I agree. Dubrovnic is a delight. A bit pricier than most places in Croatia but not too bad. The Got tourists are not really a problem ( I admit it was a factor for me ) but the real problem are the cruise ships.
No one from Croatia would go to DU. It is a beautiful city but a tourist trap, overcrowded, overpriced due to the cruise ships constantly bringing toursits...go for the islands Hvar, Brac, Vis, Korcula, Krk
It is. It's the most expensive city in Croatia. If you are going to stay there, get a BnB. Rick Steves does a great episode on Dubrovnik. Croatia is cheap in general.
Go during the winter.
Sarajevo, Prizren and Ljubljana are so underrated. I recommend Prizren, Kosovo to anyone. It's so beautiful.
Was in Sarajevo the other day and is one of my favourite places!
GREAT list, Mark. Will have to watch it again when planning our next European trip.
awesome! thank you.
Hello Mark. You're in my hometown! And you picked the perfect spot to film you're video. Definitely agree with this list, with one exception: Dubrovnik. I was there last year and it was really expensive.
Central Europe is simple: Old capital city with a great river and a castle hill. (Poland, Hungary, Czech Rep.)
Visit Vilnius in Lithuania and you will be suprised by the beauty and cosiness, relatively cheap also.
Yup Vilnius over Riga. And pretty much any city in Poland apart from Warsaw over Krakow. I didn't find Krakow great value, but some of the other cities are insanely cheap. And no way Dubrovnik, or even Split, for "cheap". However he was very clear it is his personal choice so no criticism. I appreciate his effort.
Phillip.
I really have been enjoying all your videos on traveling through Europe. I was born in Lisbon , military family. I spent my first four years there and am now thinking of retiring there. Full circle at all. And from there it's just a skip and hop to all those other wonderful places you talk about. I hope I can pull this off. Thanks again
Been to Krakow twice and Budapest once. Love both and would go back in a heartbeat!
Lisbon is a fabulous city. Compact enough to get around easily. Great architecture, fascinating history and culture, friendly people fantastic food and a great vibe. What else do you need?
Prague and Budapest are my favourites cities on earth!🇨🇿🇭🇺
Both are beautiful!
I am from Czech Republic and I am glad you like our city ♥
Thanks for letting me know that both the cities are on Earth 🌍
Just found your channel man and all I can say is I rock with it.
so happy you are making another video from my country :)
I've traveled to Prague several times. Back in 2000 it was manageable, but now it's so incredibly crowded all year long except during winter. Spring months are overrun with school groups from other Euro nations. Lots of scams and shady characters in the tourist areas. Cabs scam tourists.
I recommend Brasov, Romania. We rented a car and drove from the Bucharest airport. We didn't have time to visit Bucharest. Brasov is near the Carpathian Mountains and within a manageable drive to Bran (Dracula's) Castle and other cool sites. Great food too! My biggest regret is only spending 3 days there. Needed more time.
I agree with Krakow. It's my favorite Eastern European city. Beautiful sites, great food, affordable, and friendly people.
Going to Krakow this October! Thank you Mark for all the tips!
Anna Wolf welcome Zanzibar islands cheap place to visit +255719021384
Great list! I can personally attest to three of them - Krakow, Prague, and Budapest!!
I love this video loved every country and regions you presented good info
My patents moved from UK to General Toshivo in Bulgaria a few years back. It's right near Dobritch and Varna and also a short drive from Costantine in Romania. Bulgaria is a beautiful country, the people are so nice and when I first visited with my wife and kids the locals would often stop us as we walked by their houses and run inside for gifts for the kids such as fruit and colouring books.
At the local bar we struggled to buy our own drinks as every time we went someone had already bought our next round for us! Nasdrave!!
Also the food out there is amazing! Free side salads with almost everything and they are a meal on their own! 6 of us had a 3 course meal for 80 lev which is about 35 gbp.
What "Constantine' are you talking about? It's CONSTANTA.
My two favorite cities in Spain are Seville and Valencia. They are community and family oriented with the town squares and the rich history.
@ok 01 . funny, I have the exact opposite opinion.
Been to 3 out of 9 (or 10) of your recommendations, not too bad! Just got back from Prague and Krakow a week again and they were awesome. We had a day in Wroclaw as well, which was a very cool place for a short visit.
Great video and very informative. Thank you.
Nice and cool video Mark.
Take care,
Marcos
October I am heading (with my wife) to Lebanon and Jordan.
Very cool. Let me know how it goes!
Absolutely agree with you Mark! Honorable mention: Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Cheap cheap (and I come from a cheap country) with traces of the Yugoslavia's war(I personally like that), friendly people, the greatest preserved Ottoman architecture in Europe. Cons: it's not that easy to get there, it's touristic. But is a great cheap pearl!
Another Great Informative video!
A friend of mine told me Prague is Thee Place!!
I follow another couple who moved from Canada to travel abroad, and have seen some of these places on hers as well!
I'm not sure where in Latvi, but I do know the Chicago Blues Bands go over there to play when they tour.
Now food .. I hear You! From one Foodie Lover to another! 🥂🥘🥖🍷🍻
Thanks for the great list!
Sofia, Bulgaria belongs on the list. It would still be my favorite city to visit even if it wasn't so cheap. Gorgeous architecture from all the different periods of Bulgarian history, great food, the open air book market- all in a really walkable downtown core surrounded by parks.
I have been there and I loved every minute of it. Overall a beautiful city (despite having its share of run-down areas). Everything is inexpensive - the accomodation, the eating and drinking, the attractions, the transport. Well worth a visit.
Why Belgrade is not on the list? It's so cheap for foreigners and even for citizens. You should go.
Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸
Thank you very much for nice information
Yayyy... we're currently in Krakow - arrived on the 10th March 2020 and decided to stay when the borders closed on the 16th March... BEST DECISION EVER! We love this city and were so fortunate to be in a country where the supermarket shelves were always well stocked... no toilet paper shortages here 😁 Thank you for another wonderful video! 🙏😃😀
I haven't finished watching the video buy I already gave a like 😊 I can't wait ti visit all there cities
Thanks Melanie :) big travel hug!

My favourite city in Poland is Wrocław but I have been recommended to visit Torun.
Dubrovnik is expensive and can get overcrowded when the massive cruise ships dock.
Hope to visit Sofia, Bulgaria this year and get bus or train to Istanbul.
Wrocław is just plain beautiful :)
This travel video was an amazing way to experience a new culture and explore a beautiful country. There was so much to learn and discover throughout the journey and I loved every minute of it! The video was shot in an engaging way that made me feel like I was part of the journey. Overall, this video was a great way to explore a new culture and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience something different.
Thank you very much for this valuable and important information. Vacation is comming and then is this sort of information very usefull. Appreciate it.😀.🔝.
Have a great summer!
Yay! Portugal 2x; I may get some extra benefits from speaking basic Portuguese in the USA these past few years after all
Athens isn't so cheap, but beautiful. Only the ticket for Acropolis is 20 euro, hotels in summer time are expensive. The best time to visit Athens is Autumn, or Spring.
Mapinguari it’s free on the first Sunday of the month. I saved SO much money visiting Athens and Aegina just a few months ago, in comparison to Paris, Rome, London, and Tel Aviv. Some weird things were pricey, compared to Berlin, but I found it pretty reasonable.
Yeah I live in athens and I totaly agree. +The weather is nicer in autumn and spring
If you're studying in the EU you can enter to this places for free
Theres a pass you can buy for 30 euros that gets you into 20 different archeological sites/museum's. It includes the acropolis
@@peterj.andros3996 HOTEL Athena is centrally located. Good From its Rose rooftop restaurant one can have a birds Eye view of the city. GREAT in the evening
Nice and cheerful video man! 👌🏼
This was great. The food tips were spoken with such joy they made me hungry.
They made me hungry talking about them :)
Athens is my favorite city ever. I've been to most European countries as well! It's such a phenomenal city. I'd highly recommend it.
Excellent advices overall. The key for the tourist to get a less hectic and more value oriented travel is to avoid those huge metropolitan areas in Europe, where it is always crowded and most tourists tend to congregate, thus competing for services, such as hotels, restaurants, museums etc. Also, it is in these places, where the danger of pickpockets and sundry tourist scams are the most acutely present. In a way, the same goes for capital cities most of the time. That's why I particularly loved the Krakow, Dubrovnik, Porto, Valencia suggestions. In this more adventurous spirit, I'd substitute Prague with Brün, or Budapest with Pécs, Szeged, or Debrecen.
Thank you for this amazing tips.
You are very welcome! :)
Wonderfule video. Awesome places in europe. Very well informative. Thanks for the great work.
I recomend visiting baltics, Vilnius in Lithuania, Riga in Latvia and Tallin in Estonia are not that big but nice, clean historic sities.
Cracow ❤ Thank you for those tips! Very usefull 😊
Dr. Wolters... love your videos.
So glad to hear that Lisbon is on this list!
Mark is always in Krakow or Warsaw, cool!
because krakow is AWESOME :)

Valencia is amazing. Perfect combination between futuristic buildings and classic buildings
@@butlerson , I did not know that they ban jewish people in Valencia, where Cani find info to verify that? I used to live in Valencia.
@@judymckee5992 this is bullshit. What are u talking about? I live in the region and I work in a hotel in Valencia city. I've done myself many check in to jewish people. Everybody is welcome here.
@@PS-uz4ep , I agree with you that all visitors are welcome. There is a history in the 14th century, of Spain kicking out the jewish people. It was during that time that Columbus discovered America and the jewish people, went into the new land.
Thank you for Amazing Video!
I absolutely love watching you you are my favorite CZcams Traveler and I love that you love food and culture
Prague & Budapest......beautiful cities. Will eventually get to the others.
Morgan Smiley both great spots
You forgot balcanic cities, like Belgrade, Sarajevo, Liubliana, Sofía, Zagreb and Mostar.
Not a turist friendly cities I guess
Richter von Ihnagod they are very tourist friendly but some small towns might not be
@@richtervonihnagod7234 you guessed wrong,I live in Belgrade, one of most friendly people on the earth that will always help the strangers and tourists. If you ever come to Belgrade, visit Kalemegdan(Belgrade Fortress),Temple of St.Sava(biggest orthodox church in the world),Skadarlija(boem street full of serbian food that will suprise you, like cepavi, pasulj, karadjordjeva snicla..)Knez Mihajlova(main pedestrian street in Belgrade full of old buildings and nice cafes),then Church of St.Marko,Kosancicev venac(in my opinion most beautiful part of Belgrade, old buildings and nice neighbourhood)..
True , compared to Prague and Budapest the ones mentioned by you are a steal.
@@richtervonihnagod7234 I disagree as a matter of fact locals are more friendly in these countries than the list by Wolters :-)
Thanks Wolter for this video , alway good 😃😃😃❗️
Great vid, and great to see places not nearly as oft mentioned as other European destinations.
Been to several - Prague, Porto and Lisbon - loved them all. Prague was a nice, inexpensive side trip from Germany, which was already mostly fairly priced. Did Porto and Lisbon after a month in Spain back several years ago. Was sort of an afterthought - "hey, we're already in the peninsula, why not?" I really liked Lisbon, but (very walkable) Porto was the surprise of an action packed trip.
Hoping to visit a bunch of the rest this year.
Too bad everyone misses the undiscovered gem of Eastern Europe - Kyiv, Ukraine
*Come visit and I'll show you around!*
This didn't age well
Prague is relatively inexpensive but Brno is cheaper still and has lots to see too, and beautiful surroundings!
Agree, Brno is great, pretty and on the budget
♥️
Morava
Thanks for the video!
