There is no "best moment" to visit Paris, the city has something to show you at every moment of the year. But if you want to have a full view of the city, try the end of spring !
October is nice, especially if you love contemporary art: besides the exhibitions that start in September, there is "La Nuit Blanche" event in October with lots of happening, concerts and exhibitions all around Paris.

yep, october is nice and like Manuel said, la nuit blanche is a nice free contemporary festival to see. by the end of may you can come and see villette sonique, a free music festival.
That's if you wanna see other things than the main touristic spots.
A park no one talks about as well, is Albert Kahn, it has different gardens (french, english, japanese, et two others).
I would personally avoid winter as it is raining a lot, and it's mainly just grey and cold.
I think the best times are around may as it's getting warmer, and september/october before it gets too cold and rainy.
one free thing to do, take a baguette, some cheese and other things and wine and just walk on the banks's river, chose a spot and sit.
That's what most parisians do anyway and it's the easiest way to enjoy paris and meet us

@@trevor1423 I know this is old, but as a European who travels a lot, I can assure you that the immigrants, wherever they may come from, don't make your trip or even your life here less enjoyable! :) there are still unanswered political questions but the people who come here do not restrict you in anything :)

I've been to Paris many times and I would advise tourists to avoid all tbe northern suburbs (including the northern extremities of the metro). Most of these areas are seedy and some are downright dangerous. The main tourist attractions are well away from these areas. Unfortunately, the RER B train from Charles de Gaulle airport goes through some dodgy areas so watch your bags closely on this train.Also, ignore anyone who offers to help you with buying metro/train tickets from the machines; also ignore anyone who asks you to sign a petition.
Indeed. Plus RER B travels from north to south of paris, is crowded, and as it's a surface train is usually inconfotably warm (direct sun light)
also watch out for beggars that go in a group. One can distract you from one direction, and the other will take your stuffs.

I love Paris, I've been talking about it for like 5 years, I have always wanted to go there, and one day, my teacher told the class, in two years, we will be taking a trip, not just to Paris, but London also, when she said that, I broke down crying I was so excited. So if anyone sees this comment after two years, just know that I went to Paris, and that dreams can come true😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️

I visted tokyo last month..ive wanted to visit tokyo since i was 15 if not even younger..
Been to Paris three times, and to Villfrance Sur Mer, and never had anyone be rude! Especially if you speak any French at all, you'll get a smile and hospitality- though they will respond in English usually, because they can tell from your accent you're not really fluent! :) Something else we discovered, as people with limited mobility (arthritis, other things), that although nothing looks handicapped accessible by American standards, it really is, because they will help you! For example, at Moulin Rouge, they saw us in line- my wife and I both on canes- and they took us out of line to a nice little waiting room and served us tea so we didn't have to stand for an hour, then seated us when the next show started! Never had a theater here do that!
Funny, maybe you didn't recognize the French style of snark. When I tried my High School French I was told not to even attempt to speak French unless I knew how and when I spoke English they condemned me for being a provincial-minded American, "Why don't you speak French?! This is France; in France we speak French!. You Americans are all alike. You expect everyone to speak English. Well, this is France!!" I told her to shove it up her ass and left for Toulon the next day. No problems there, or in Marseilles, or anywhere else in Europe or the Mediterranean.
I totally agree here. People are nice and polite and when they see you are making an effort, they open up and are so helpful. I always tried with salutations and smiled and used my broken French and they returned similes back and were polite. I don't get it when anyone mentions that they are rude. I was in France for 15 days and went all over and had a wonderful time. You want to try rude? come to New York, my city the rudest capital of the world.
The only rudeness I ever experienced in Paris was from a fellow American. We were waiting in line for the Catacombes in 2001 and an American woman ahead of us was loudly telling the ticket agent "I can't understand you! Can't you please speak English?!" and being a total boor. Meanwhile, the poor agent continued speaking to her, calmly, in French. I offered to help and managed to get asshole woman a ticket. After she left, I apologized to the agent in French, and she responded in perfect English. LMAO

JUST GOT BACK FROM PARIS. Everyone was Nice, Food was good, Streets were clean, No poop on sidewalks. I feel like I worried for nothing about this trip. But watching youtube videos and hearing other stories from people who have been made me feel at ease since this was my first time going to Paris, Or to Europe in general. Great Trip. Had lots of fun!

Been all over the world and lived in Dubai for 5-6 months and after just 4 days in Paris, I can say that it is easily my favorite city on the planet.
Also, on my trip to Paris last April, I discovered that disabled people (like myself) can ride the city buses for FREE! With a mobility scooter, I can't use the metro system, but the buses were amazing. :) Also, I highly suggest visiting Stohrer's Patisserie. It's the oldest one in Paris. I love their giant macaron with raspberries and rose petals!
That's good to know. Not all Metro stations have elevators or even escalators so people have to go up stairs.

Great video ! Just a tiny tip on French prononciation: drop the Ts and other consonants at the end of words ("plats" is pronounced "pla", "croissant" is pronounced "croissan", "confit de canard" is "confi de canar") :)
Great video Mark and helpful advice as always from your channel :) My hubby and I are heading to Paris for three weeks tomorrow and it's always so lovely to visit this beautiful city. We totally 100% agree with you, renting an apartment is the best thing to do when visiting Paris, I know for hubby and I we always love to live like a local when we visit cities that way you really do get to enjoy the travelling and cultural experience to the full. Plus shopping for food at the patisseries, bakeries and fruit stands really is great as French food is so delicious. We can't wait to be in Paris. Vive La France!!! 💙❤️

I was in Paris 3 weeks ago, and I miss it dearly. The service was top notch, and the food was amazing. People were incredibly nice, so don't feel discouraged to go. I spent NYE at the Arc du Triomphe, and it was a once in a life time experience. Everything in this video, is spot on. Can't wait to go back!

Was just in Paris in the beginning of September. It was my wife, 3 year old, and I & we loved it:D
We stayed in the 20th and didn’t run into any trouble at all. But we were well aware of our surroundings the whole time.
We took the metro everywhere and the Parisians were extremely nice and helpful:)

I've been many times in Paris, but I tend to book my room WITHOUT breakfast. Some hotels will charge 10 or more euros for a dry croissant and hard baguette. Instead I buy some good stuff at a boulangerie and sit and eat it in a nice café (not restaurant!) while having a coffee or orange juice. Never had problems with eating croissants, brioches, pain au chocolate bought elsewhere.

I went last week, but I'm so lucky that I live only 150 miles away from it.
Another thing that we learned is that when something doesn't go as planned, take it lightly and think of it as an adventure that will make a great story when you get home.-such as having reservation in a hotel without AC durring a heatwave in Amiens.
Also, I like starting conversations with people and I had some great experiences and met some great people. People don't seem to keep their faces in their smart phones like in U.S..

Just got back from Paris. If you don’t say Bon Jour or Bonsoir to a bus driver, he may yell at you near the Louvre and make you cry. Not that it happened to me or anything lol.
Lmao what I literally live in Paris and bus drivers don't care ! But of course a little "bonjour !" and "au revoir" is always nice !
while a bus driver screaming at you or something is.. extremely rare, when you get onto the bus, you either validate your ticket, or if you don't have a ticket (the bus driver can't stop you)at least aknowledge his work and say "hello" it's just a way of thanking the driver for driving you. if you don't pay for his paycheck, at least say hello

I completely agree with learning some basic French before your visit. It will definitely make your visit so much better. Locals will notice you're trying even if your French isn't that good. Also Montmartre is where I'll continue to stay whenever I visit Paris, very affordable hostels in that district for travelers on a budget. I think I was paying an average of $30 a night. And just like Mark mentioned, avoid going in July or August. I made the mistake of visiting Paris for the first time in August and the amount of tourists everywhere was insane. Great video Mark!

Yup, I stayed in a hostel near Monmartre in June of 2017 that even had an air conditioner in the room! If you haven't been to Europe, AC period is rare, so I lucked out.
I stayed in Montmartre two weeks ago. I absolutely loved it!
Yeah it is always better to learn some basic worlds anywhere you travel. France has this bad reputation of rejecting the english language and not making any effort, and as a french native unfortunately in most of the case it is true so a french person will be a lot more helpful if you make the first effort :)

Daughter and I are in Paris now from Australia and all you say about this great city is so true. The food is amazing! The people are friendly and put up with our attempts at the language. We are walkers and walk everywhere from our hotel - Eiffel Tower, Champs Elyssee, Sacré Coeur, Montmartre, The Louvre, Musée Gourmande du Chocolat, to name a handful. Thank you for telling others about this wonderful city. Please also tell people to spend more than a just a few days - a week or even more.

the cheapest piece of clothe or shoes was about 120€. That's too much.

I heartily agree about renting an apartment (a flat) and having Paris as a central location. I would suggest staying there for at least a month. I stayed not more than a mile from the Bataclan and the area was quite safe. That area (west of the Bastille) has many great restaurants as well and the metro is easy to take to wherever you need to go.
I mentioned it before but I'll repeat it here. Go to the Louvre on a week day. I went on a Friday and the line took less than 10 minutes. This was in early June.

Great Video as usual. I walked into Le Bon Marche wearing a t shirt, jeans and sandals. A security guard asked me to leave. I explained that I was visiting from Canada. He rolled his eyes and said "but of course". Rude people are everywhere in Paris not just restaurants. The food is good in Paris but no better than local food in many countries. I took a day trip to Lille and it was like a totally different experience. People were nice and prices were a lot lower. Your suggestion of taking day trips is a good one.
I understand your issue, but le bon marché is a sort of classy shop... don't get in there in sandals... he would have rolled his eyes on us parisians too...

I’m slightly worried about going to Paris next week especially with all the protests at the minute. I feel like this video made it better but the comments made it worse 😂
honestly it was fine, had one instance of them trying to put the thing on my wrist but I just said no, other than that nothing, even at the Eiffel Tower
MyUsernameIsMikee Just a tip if people planning to visit Paris are worried by actual protests : absolutely avoid to stay in the city center on saturdays. Since the beginning of the action, weekly protests take place every saturday but are systematically forbidden by the prefecture resulting by imprevisible routes, increased police controls and more arrests if you are close to the protestors. Not forgetting the violence escalation from each side...
Don't need A name there’s a ‘scam’ thing where these guys put something on your wrist, like some little string bracelet thing, and you can’t get it off and then they demand payment for it, so just don’t let them touch your wrists haha.
Onchito1518 you are right, also the protest that occurred while I was there was at 9am, and by mid day it was all cleared up, so visiting the centre was safe for the rest of the day, don’t know if that’s always the case though. But as you say there was police everywhere and what appeared to be military personnel patrolling, so I never felt in any danger.

Great tips! I visited Paris in July, it was busy, but there are ways to avoid crowds and have a nice time in general:
- I recommend visiting Louvre in the evening (Wednesdays and Fridays) and plan the visit! think about what you want to see, check what is currently closed (there are some many stairs there, you will thank me)
- while going to Versailles first go to gardens, see Le Petit and Grand Trianon and later in the afternoon go see the Palace; there is 2h line in the morining and 30-15 minutes line around 3-4pm
- in the morining just walk around and enjoy the city while everyone is waiting in lines for museums, etc.
- visit some amazing parks such as Jardins de Luxemburg, Jardins de Tuileries - plenty of space for everybody, enjoy a baguette and some delicious cheese from fromagerie - trust me it is much better quality than a cheese platter in most restaurants
- take the cruise on the Seine, it is lovely!
- I would also skip going up the Eiffel Tower - it is so iconic, why wait in such long line to see the view without it? I liked the panorama from Arc de Triumph or go to Montparnasse to see Paris from 56th floor
- metro is not very nice, also it can be closed for repairs and it can be confusing - I would just walk as much as you can, my favourite places to wander around is Le Marais
Paris is just so lovely in the summer when everything is so green, vibrant ,the sun is shining and the days are sooo long.

I went 2 times to Paris, and the first time it was an absolute blessing, and we had a wonderful time there. The 2nd time was few weeks ago (maybe corona depression) and I have never been treated so badly. Although my 2nd trip wasn't really different, I had such a different experience. We went to the same hotel and same restaurants and places as before. I can speak a little of french, and I always try my absolute best, but so many times people were so annoyed by me speaking French (my French is decent I just talk slow compared to native speakers). While I met a few people who really appreciated that I try to speak French with them (like the absolute legend flight attended from AirFrance) many on the other hand didn't appreciate it.
I was in a restaurants near louvre and although one of the staff members noticed that I'm not that good at French he made it so hard for me to understand him, he spoke really, really fast, started talking about stuff which is not related to the question I asked him and was speaking generally really blurred. At one point I was so fed up that I stood up and when that guy noticed it that I'm not dealing with that BS anymore he came to me and suddenly spoke perfect English and was apologizing and begging me to stay. Guess why he did that? Because all the other staff members noticed it, and he was probably scared for his job.
When I went back to the Airport via train, my billet was not working anymore (my GF had the same billet, and it worked for her without an issue) and someone from the staff came over and started yelling at my why I buy the wrong ticket to save money. I tried explaining to him that it's the correct billet, but he was not interested in listening. A few seconds later, I hear him again, probably yelling at another innocent person.
The French usually have an attitude but Paris has the worst.
I spent a month learning Italian for our trip to Italy and not a single Italian person would acknowledge me in anything other than English. So weird! I honestly think they Europeans like to speak English and use us to practice lol!
my family and I are booked to visit for a week in December, my husband can speak a little French but the rest of can't. we have been learning the basics for this trip but we are concerned about all the negative experiences posted as we research. I am hoping that our experience is not this bad as it would be a shame after spending all this money to visit and be treated like 2nd class human

Actually, what you should know is, in France, everywhere, all the National museums are closed on tuesdays. for Museums run by Régions, Départements, municipalitées or private fundations, it varies a lot.
A great story of my mom's is how, when she got to Paris while traveling alone as a teenager (she was maybe 18?) in around 1982-3, she was trying to meet up with friends who she was going to stay with, but and she went to the train station to take her train to meet them, and she waited for hours without seeing her train come, and she was too shy to ask anyone using her French. Turned out she was at the Gare du Nord and she needed to take a train from an entirely different station! Don't be afraid to use your French and also double-check which station you're going to.

I’ve been to Paris many times and I love it more each time I go there. I wonder if people who live there see it as beautiful as me or do they take it for granted.
I was born in Paris, I can tell you, we know it's a special city, but we don't really realize it. so I would say, most of the ppl take it for granted, they just find the city "normal". It's only when we hear that the city is the most visited city in the world that we eventually understand there is something special with Paris

American traveling abroad should at least know enough of the language of where they are going to handle some basic conversation in restaurants and public places and to travel on transit. Americans cannot travel the world and expect English to be spoken and I wish more of them would adjust. Thanks as always for a continuing excellent video series.
As an American I totally agree. I took french classes for about a year prior to going to France and it really helped. I have also been learning Japanese for a trip to Tokyo later this year. If Americans made an effort to learn the basics, maybe we wouldn't have such a bad reputation.
Not sorry here but why does everyone have to say Americans. Like damn there are other nationalities going to the country and you can't point them out. I'm sure not many British people know another language other than English too but no one points them out. As soon as you speak English all of a sudden you can only be American.
While I agree in general, the overall nature of the EU has semi-formally made English the de-facto language for diplomatic relations and also has kind of lead it to being the de-facto "domestic" (Europe) tourism language. In general, if you go to Europe, particularly to an EU-member country, only knowing English you should be fine at least in the major cities.
Why do people always point out Americans? Why not Australians, Canadians, or pretty much anyone from any other country not in Europe?
I’m German and I expect everyone to speak English. It’s not so difficult and the French are learning it in school like everyone else in Europe does.

My wife and I went just over a year ago in November and yes, we went to Disneyland. What can I say? If you're a Disney fan like us, you'll understand, if not, I can't possibly explain. Of course, we went to a lot of other sites too - if you go to Paris and only go to Disney, even I'll judge you.

AirBNB is great. You can do the more couch-surfing route of just having a private room, or pay closer to a hotel price for a full apartment (keep in mind that if you're from North America, apartments are going to be smaller than what you're used to). Be careful to read the reviews on AirBNB carefully as there are a lot of duplicate or misleading listings.

The only thing you need to look for are the african guys who make bracelets, they can be agressive, they take your wrist and start making it and then they ask a lot for what they made, an in the end the excuse is always "we can't remove it". But if you are in trouble police is always in close proximity and always willing to help.
MrWildchild92 that happened to me in Rome! I was in the Piazza Navona. Some Roman guy grabbed my wrist and started doing it, and when I didn't wanna pay he was like "if you pay we wont have any problems" and referenced to a friend behind him. Ugh. I was low on money anyways, I reached to grab a 1 euro coin but he saw I had 5 euros and made me give him that instead. He did the same thing to some friends earlier the day apparently but they refused to pay, and when they did that he asked to see their tits. Ugh.

Most the time there they are illegal african guys, they did it one time to a friend, really shy girl, so she didn't dare to discuss with the guys, I simply gave him the choice, you make it loose or I cut it loose. They know how to pick the people who don't dare to discuss.

MrWildchild92 yeah for sure, I'm a super tiny girl, it's no wonder he went for me. He was definitely Italian, though, but when I was in Paris some guys from Africa harassed my friends and I too. I was with 2 guys, who admittedly didn't look very tough either. I normally wouldn't be so passive, I think I was just in shock and didn't know what to do. It's unfortunate that in these big cities people can take advantage of others like that.

Paris is in my opinion the greatest place in Europe and your video is an awesome introduction. Food in Paris is total heaven and i agree of all in this vid but i would add a few cheap treats. Galettes, a panncake made of buckwheat with ham and cheese, or in principal everything imaginable, that you can get in restaurants with specialities from Brittany, even better than pizza and don´t forget their beers. Falafel in rue des Rosiers, the best in Europe and for me a must, incredibly delicious. There are also a lot of great foods from the colonies, Vietnam, Algerie etc and all kinds of fusion, soooo great. Current political polarization has made some people afraid of going to Paris. This has extremly little to do with reality as everyone will find out if they go there or follow french news about what really is going on.
Paris was amazing 20 years ago. Now, not so much. It is becoming completely unrecognizable and dangerous now in certain areas thanks to mass migration.

anders bertilsson Who said I’m afraid to visit? I was in Europe over the summer. I’m just acknowledging that the situation in Paris and other cities has gone severely downhill. Those roaming gangs of North African migrants who basically mug you in broad daylight over buying a bracelet didn’t used to exist. That just started in the past decade or so. There didn’t used to be neighborhoods of Paris where it was recommended to avoid at all costs, now there is. Paris used to be an extremely safe city, that is not the case anymore sadly. It’s crime rate is on par with somewhere like New York or LA now.

I wish I knew you need to keep your metro ticket after you use it. Just went to Paris a few months ago and we threw our tickets in the trash after riding. We went up the stairs and they were collecting tickets at the top. We both both got fined 50 euros each just for throwing away the ticket. It ruined our day. They were incredibly rude and mean about it too.

Hahaha! So do I! As a side note, since probably no one but you will read this: I spent most of a year as a student in Paris. Late one afternoon, I was on my way home on the metro. A friend had lent me her copy of the last of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I was so engrossed in it that I missed my stop and went all the way to the end of the metro line. Although I explained my mistake, the typical "Madame Lafarge" in the ticket booth told me I had to pay for a return ticket. I had no clue where I was...and ZERO money. I guess I had spent what I had on a modest lunch. I begged and pleaded with her, showed her all my official student credentials, and she finally let me board the next train back in the right direction. btw, this was in 1966!!!

1. Rats everywhere around Eiffel Tower (specially in parks).
2. Annoying smart-ass "sellers" and cheaters everywhere.
3. City is REALLY loud, dirty and crowded, specially around the biggest attractions.
4. In most popullar places forget about making picture without other people in background.
5. Buy VIP-entrances everywhere, or get ready for waiting HOURS to see something.

True, there is an increase in the population of rats; probably due to far fewer stray cats than in the last decades (people neuter their pets more than before). Lots of spilled food feed rodents too.

I visited Paris a long time ago, arrived by airplane into Orly and needed a taxi to take me to my final destination. This was my first and only visit to Paris. I exited the airport through some doors and proceeded to walk towards the taxi closest to me, as they were all parked under an awning across a drivethrough area for active loading of non-commercial passenger vehicles. My faux paus was apparently not proceeding to the first available taxi at the left end of the row of cars under the awning/carport, and as the driver waved vigorously at me and showed disdain at my poor judgement, the driver I had actually approached directed me towards the other vehicle instead. I'm not sure if it is still set up like this, but if it is I think it is worth mentioning to people visiting for the first time by plane and requiring a taxi. The taxi ride did not go well, for either of us. The language barrier prevented adequate communication and all I had to offer was the address of where I needed to go. The driver ended going the wrong way down a one-way street, stopped on the opposide side from the building I needed about a block down, and proceeded to remove my bags from the trunk and throw them on the ground and yell at me in French gesturing wildly all the while. I nice passerby saw my delimma and kindly assisted by translating enough for me to pay the driver and help me with my bags to the front door of the building.
