Ways Scotland Has Been Totally Mistreated Throughout History

  • On a Scottish history timeline, you can see how the English have used, abused, and downright insulted Scotland. Slurs, jokes, and awful stereotypes aside, the English were responsible for the most horrible atrocities committed in Scotland.
The 18th-century Battle of Culloden and its aftermath were particularly difficult for the beautiful, culturally rich country, but mistreatment didn't start or stop there. Scottish history facts are full of examples of disputes and hardships, many of which may make you sympathize with England's northern neighbor.

There are some who argue that the US Civil war has roots in the ancient conflicts between these three countries. It should be noted that by the time of the Battle of Culloden, Scotland and England were already one country so it was more of a civil war rather than an invasion. Also, despite what the video claims, some in Scotland remain loyal to the Hanover Dynasty rather than support the Jacobites for their own reasons (eg. Some Catholic highland clans realize it might be best for their clan if they support the current ruling family or suffer the consequences for siding with the rebels or join one side to get back against another clan that joined the other side). Even the UK's Black Watch Regiment was formed by Scottish Highland clans who joined the side of the British government and help defeat the other clans that joined the Jacobites. Furthermore, when the British government perform the Highland Clearance, many of the Jacobite supporter lands were given to loyal Scottish nobles and not English nobles according to myth.

Laughable inaccurate. I can only assume it is meant for an American audience?
First conflict between England and Scotland? Battle of the Standard, where Scotland attempted to snatch a piece of England whilst the latter was in a civil war.
Queen Mary? Chased out of her own country by Protestant nobles and probably safer in Fotheringhay Castle than anywhere else.
Act of a Union a hostile takeover? Scotland had bankrupted itself trying to establish a colony on the Isthmus of Darien. England paid that debt off in exchange for stationing troops in Scotland preventing France using it as a staging post for an invasion. So mutually beneficial.
Culloden had more Scots Lowland even Highland fighting on the British side. It was a religious struggle, with the Catholics of the Highlands and in the ‘15 rebellion, Northern English Catholic’s against the Protestant George’s.
If this is the best research you can manage, just give right up.

I think South Korea has developed at a later but much faster rate from the 1960s onward. In that decade, it was poorer than even Ghana!
But it also did its best to exist when it was forcibly controlled by the Japanese military, and before that, it was the renaissance period powerhouse of a once bigger (but not always United) Korea. No wonder why it’s more resilient than its more messed up northern counterpart.

The battle of Culloden and events leading upto it was not a war between Scotland and England, it was between the British and the Jacobites. That British army at Culloden was half filled with Scottish southerners. A union between Scotland and England began in 1707 making them both British long decades before Culloden.
    I'm Scottish...just saying.

Question: When facing the invading forces and found them unbeatable on your own soils, why don't go to their soils, do some massacres, capture the capital and hold it as a hostage to force the invaders to leave your home?
What I am saying here is that the Scots should take the fight to London, capture it and hold it as a hostage to force the English government to negotiate on their terms.

8:00 I am curious how executions became a form of public drama and entertainment.
I remember reading about some event in France (the French Revolution?) where executions were scheduled in a way that each one could be more easily viewed by the public for a daily event.

The book "Discipline and Punish" by Foucault has a lot of context about why kings turned execution into spectacle. I think he also discusses the history of the practice a bit, but it's been a while since I've read it. Ultimately, the practice boils down to showing the people that the king has total control and ownership of their lives and bodies.

A lot of Jacobites were English too, and Scots also fought in the British Army at Culloden in 1746 as the UK was formed in 1707. . It was more to do with restoring Roman Catholic King James, therefore a religious uprising. At that time the predominant denomination in the Highlands was Roman Catholicism. A fact that is getting more and more lost through time through unfactual storytelling, and is quite disrespecful. This is quite ironic given the title of this video. False recounts of history have compounded the mistreatment of Scotland throughout history.

    1. There were more Scots in the Government side at Culloden than on the Jacobite side.
    2. When Henry VII married his daughter married his daughter Margaret to James IV, English nobles complained that this would give the Scots power over England. Henry replied 'If any differences come between our two realms, the greater shall draw the lesser!'
Henry VII is the favourite king of George Osborne, former Chancellor of the Exchequer 2010-16.

Current polls show a broadly similar result would happen today f another vote was held. Largely because the Scottish government has ballsed Scotland up so horrifically.
