The Rise and Catastrophic Fall of Marie De Medici

- France was a country torn apart by years of religious and civil wars when Marie de Medici married King Henri IV in 1600. It was one of the unhappiest royal marriages of all time. Desperate for power, she watched from behind the scenes for years while her husband tried to control a country that was intent on destroying itself from within - she watched, and waited for her moment to strike. After 10 years of marriage, she was finally crowned Queen of France in her own right.
The very next day her husband was conveniently murdered by a fanatical priest and Marie took control of the kingdom for herself.

From being a consort and living as royalty to begging. That’s one mighty fall from Grace.
Reminds me of Puyi. Last Emperor of China. Died alone as a gardener of the Forbidden City, from where he used to rule as Emperor of all of China.
@@J3diMindTrix At least he wasn't killed by the CCP all things considered he got to off light compared to most deposed Royals.
The narrator impressively mastered pronouncing several tough to pronounce French names. Kudos Monsieur
Except Richelieu.

If history was taught by the weird history channel in schools I bet more children would pay attention in class. 😂 Keep up the good work!
I actually use these videos in my history classes! My students at least pay attention enough to laugh, so I'll take what I can get!
No they probably still wouldn't. 🤣😂
@@sarbear9726 Sadly, you are probably correct.🤣
@@maggiehawkins9753 good job at least one in each class take something from your efforts. Keep up the good work. At 36 I remember a few teachers by name because of the impression they left on me, someone will credit your inspiration for their success

She is also credited for introducing ballet to France.
And opera -Opera was invented in Florence so she would have been very familiar with the new art form.

This thread hurt my eyes and my brain. Someone will read this and take it as gospel and the world will be dumber as a consequence!
You have conflated this matter confusing two differing de Medici women with regard to ballet and the notion either brought opera to France is baseless.
Catherine de Medici, Queen consort to Henry II, brought ballet to France.
The first French opera was in 1673, Marie de Medici died in 1642.
I believe that was Louis VIV
This is the example when all the dirt you've have done come back to haunt you.

Is there a chance you could do an episode on the true story behind the musketeers?

I would like to see a video about the Italian de Medici family. Their power structure, over how far an area, and especially the ways they took advantage of the population and the enemies they made along the way.
The reason why this would be a great subject is because I read Dante giving them a lot of negative attention in his books, The Divine Comedy.

The 'thou shall not kill' commandment gets ignored a lot!
I think Its actually "you shall not murder " there is a difference between killing and murdering. kill is to put to death; to extinguish the life of while murder is to deliberately kill (a person or persons).
This channel is more fun than all of my history classes in high school. And that's saying something considering I almost failed them.
*_DO A SPECIAL ON KATHERIN Medici shes was the best most powerful of them all_*
I totally agree, she was the most powerful woman of the middle ages. She's also credited for keeping her family on the throne 1st her husband and then her 3 sons, ne after another.
Catherine de' Medici not Katherin Medici.
@@brooke6549 ah shut ur holes
She was evil.
@@bonniemagpie5166 no she did what she had to
As to Marie possibly having her husband killed 24 hrs after being confirmed Queen... not that I advocate for murder, but if you have a husband who cheats on you constantly and publicly, yet you don't have the same freedoms and indeed can be legally executed for the same thing, he treats you like shit and divorce is not an option. It would be tempting to be done with him. Just saying. 👸💃
You have a point

Y’all should do Sylvester Magee he was is the oldest ex slave to live he live between 1841 to 1971 so 130 year I think his life would be truly interesting especially with all he’s had lived through

Don’t worry, he’s still looking for the link !
@@matthoward7645 there are actually a few ex slaves who are possibly over 115, but because many slaves didn't have access to their birth records (if there even were any), their ages couldn't be verified. It doesn't mean that they weren't that old... so the 122 year old woman very well could be no where near the oldest woman who ever lived, just the oldest person who had RECORD of their age.

The only reason I know who Marie de medici is because of assassins creed 😪
Also Lorenzo de medici 😩
YASSSS! 💖
Same…..same 🕹🎮
The reason I know of assassins creed is because of people mentioning the medicis 🤔
Caterina De' Medici was not evil nor bad. She was a very intelligent, smart person ahy of her time. She was powerful, and a great mother. She did what she had to do. She was only 14 when she married, I think she had a lot of guys, spine, and courage . She was the in charge of a country, a queen 👑, and ha 3 sons of which all became Kings. I wonder if any of us could do that, and have that kind of guts and inner strength.
super! thanx!
I would love to hear your take on Gustav Eriksson Wasa; king of sweden and the struggle for power that went on between his sons
She is alive and well in King's Landing.
Appears that Marie was a 17th century "KAREN!"😂
"Comedy of errors" seems to be trendy all throughout history with those silly royals. 😂
That's a nice rags to riches to rags story.

What a crazy political drama! Marie was as slippery as a fish.
Michael Palin portrayed a great Cardinal Richelieu on Monty Python's. Flying Circus
I kinda of feel sorry for her. Yet at the same time she completely brought entirely on herself.
Love this narrator. ❤️
Please can we have a video on Benito Mussolini?
Okay, why do I find myself thinking of song from Sound of Music, "How do you solve a problem like Maria"?
Good video
0:58 Okay, why is Henry IV's portrait superimposed over England? Did the creator of the graphic simply didn't want the two images of Henry and Marie to overlap?
The animations are top!
Oh, I love those Dutch/Flemish painters! One of my favorite paintings is the Dutch Masters; love those rich dark costumes.
Thank you so much for the video!!! It was great and a lot of fun. Saludos desde Bolivia 🇧🇴
With all the inbreeding, family wars, back stabbing; reminds me of deep southern family feuds less the money, parasols and lace handkerchiefs.
What an interesting story. It looks like she was behind her husband's murder, to grab power for herself. Then she plotted for the rest of her life. Well done to her son for exiling her.
I hope Marie de Medici is burning in hell with Charlemagne, King John I, King Henry III, King Edward I, Margaret Beaufort, King Henry VII, King Henry VIII, King Louis XIV, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, King Edward VIII, King George VI, etc 👗👠👑💍

history is so interesting. i always say, you can't make this stuff up. it's so fantastic. she was quite power hungry and egotistical. it was her delusions that brought her down. if she would have bothered to anticipate other people's perspectives, like her son, it may have played out differently.
