We live in rural Ohio, next to a field with cattle, so flies are always a terrible problem. I tried this recipe, and am amazed at the result. Our house has not one, but 3 big doggie doors! (see the problem???). Okay, the weather for the last 3 weeks has been cooler - 80+ degrees --, but all of us are amazed at the result. Yes, the flies still get in, but they don't stay! Its amazing. Even our neighbors & friends have commented about "where'd the flies go?". It's early August, so surely the weather will warm up, but I'm hoping, hoping....
Where do they go?
@@heismightytosave527 to the neighbors' house. 😊
Two Tablespoons of cloves, two bay leaves, and glass of water. Boil for ten minutes, strain. Add 1/2 cup vinegar. Cool. Spray and use around house.

We used to have infestations of ants in our kitchen every Spring. My mother heard they didn't like bayleaf so she put a trail of them along the kitchen walls and in every kitchen cupboard. Unbelievably the ants never returned.
does this work on a dead body
@@pastorjamescordier521 asking for a friend, I presume. Lmk what you find out. 😂
Yep that works! I’ve been doing that for years. My daughter even asked why do she keep finding leaves every where lol 😂.

Cormeal kills ants, they carry it home to their queen, she eats it and her ovaries dry up.
They feed it to the babies because it's sweet, they dry up inside of a week...ants get their water content from their food, dried cornmeal kills many bugs and ants, Inc hornets
You can also spray peppermint oil mixed with water around the windows and doors. Bugs don’t like that smell and will not come in.
That works for 🐜 ants
True--smells we love, revile them...cloves, eucalyptus, all the mints, even their leaves crushed up and best, most hard to believe tip, if you dust cinnamon over these cats or shallow dishes in window-sils full of spices, under the corner if your refrigerator in floor--RATS will leave/disappear. Learned this from an exterminator who had them in his house near the wharf. Harmless all these, no downside to trying.
@@CynthiaWord-iq7in you are such a sweet nice person and thanks.
I mix peppermint oil with water for a spray. Ants, Mosquitos, Wasps and flies stay away. I even spray me when I head to the woods or garden. I put a few drops of lemon or whatever scent I want on my vacuum cleaner bag and the filter for the central heat/air. Instant whole house scent. And if I do get bit I use a mentholatum rub like Vic's. I found a roll on at Amazon. It is a petroleum product and I do stay away from those. But If I get chiggar bites for instance Mentholatum is my go to. About 3 applications when itching reoccurs and no more itch. Works for mosquitos bites also. Wasp takes a lot more applications and doesn't remove the pain but sincerely dulls it. I haven't had poison ivy yet. That's my next experiment.
Remembered another. Diatomaceous earth. Food grade, not the stuff for pool filters. I use this to 'relocate' ant hills. It is not a deterrent. It is like throwing down piles of broken glass to us. Cuts their exoskeleton. I had a nest of field ants next to the garage man door. Ants either relocated or died but they are gone.
Bad for cats
seriously, I made this recipe and sprayed it as instructed, and the flies started laughing at me! Honestly, they gathered on the sprayed surface and laughed their little wings off. No flies left the area.
Use cedar oil instead
no flies on you lol 😆
I tried it too ! This video is very misleading. Use a solution of bleach and water .. 1 part bleach and 10 parts water ! And keep me food covered and garbage bins clean
Thankyou for saving me the trouble!
Thanks for saving me the stress. Don't know if it works for mosquitoes though
This recipe in your video is perfect, Thank You for posting your video!
I usually put a bay leaf and a clove in my tea already just because I like the taste...and because bay leaves are narcotics (I know most people are unaware) which relax me. I wonder if that tea I've been drinking helps to keep mosquitos from wanting to bite me. As I'm drinking the tea, the steam is leaving the cup, so that might help keep them away in the moment, but I wonder if later there is a slight scent of bay leaves and cloves that can smell near my skin. On a side note, if you want to get a similar high from bay leaves, but don't want to consume water they've been boiled in, you can always burn the bay leaves in a dish near you (1 or 2 will do the trick), and let the smoke float around the room for about 10 minutes as you go about your business. A relaxing way to end the day, and the leaves crackle and look cool as they burn. Obviously be safe anytime you mess with fire.
Thank you! I like the idea of bay leaves 😃 At my age every bit helps 😏
For biting misquitoes take garlic pills or eat garlic. Vampires don't like garlic. Flavors up the blood. Or rub a dryer sheet on your arms & legs and stick it in your pocket.
Thank you .. I have a kilo of bay leaves...since the pandemic, I surely could use it for tea concoction and also to get a little light headed by burning 🔥
Well, I’m going to try that bay leaf tea too. I need some relaxing.
I am not bothered by mosquitos as much as I used to but I blame the fermented garlic that I eat daily for that 😉 Haven’t seen any vampires around either, so it works! Fermented veggies are a staple in my daily food, I snack on them.
But I am also going to try that bay leaf + water on my balcony, it might deter the flies trying to get in.
Sounds like a fun weekend kind of tea. Could you drink it and go to work or would I be way too wavy?
Thank you for explaining about the bay leaves stopping the insects repoducing. I will get some.
Insects do need to reproduce. They are important for us. We just do not want them close to us.
Of course, this is asserted in the video without any evidence in support. Treat the claim with scepticism.

We had a problem with large black ants in our mailbox 3 years ago. I put several cloves in the mailbox and the ants have never returned.
Maybe they didnt want to be mesht with and only that is the reason..
Cloves also works for bees. My neighbor knew my son was allergic to bees, so he planted geraniums around the mailbox. They took to it like honey. So one day, I walked by and threw a handful of cloves in the geraniums, never had another problem with bees there.

Hello Maggie : ) Cloves are deadly to dogs, cats ( animals ) someone in comments warned us
@@veganvocalist4782 Oh thank you so much. I have a cat. I'll add the warning to my previous message about the homemade solution ❤️😁
Why have a warning about cloves and animals? Why would anybody give a dog or a cat cloves anyway? Thousands of things that you cook with are probably deadly for dogs and cats.
@@Livetoeat171 Someone notified me in a comment that cloves were deadly to dogs, cats and other animals. Its only fare to pass on the info so people can make an informed choice whether to use them or not. I don't think people would feed cloves to animals but incase the spray contaminated their drinking water or if the spray came in contact with their fur or paws which was then digested afterwards. Yes lots of other things are poisonous as well but as cloves were part of the ingredients here I wanted to pass that on to others to decide for themselves.
I don't know any cat or dog who'd want to chow down on cloves! As with chocolate (dark chocolate at about 70% or higher of cacao), it would require quite a bit of cloves to do any damage, more than what would be sprayed on a surface area. Nonetheless, it's important to be aware.
A small bowl of water with a small hand of cloves does the trick , refresh every 3 days

I have a catio that allows bugs to come in around it since it’s not complete screening, so I tried this out as a wash on the doorway and have a pan of the cloves simmering while the catio is in use, more water than the recipe calls for so it doesn’t boil away. It does seem to help some but mainly also need a light to attract eh bugs away from the doorway. This might help some. But it’s not a complete solution for my situation.
Our biggest problem are loud neighbors.

@MaxAmerica. For pesky neighbors try this remedy: 1 part facial grimace, 2 parts talk in random non-sequiters when they approach you to converse and finaly 2 parts act like an unstable person (ie; howl back at thier noisy dogs when they start barking at you everytime step into your own yard). Those always work for me. If all else fails, buy property somewhere in Montana or move into a neiborhood with more spacious zoning. LMK how it work out and BTW, no charge for the advice.

O boy don't get me started. Roaches, flies , and mosquitoes. Now the fruit flies are really bad everywhere
In fact, bay leaves are considered to be toxic to dogs due to the presence of a substance called eugenol plus a number of other essential oils
I am retired and reside in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, MX. Which is considered to be in the SUB TROPIC's. Even in the wintery months, the temp outside can and does the majoity of the time exceed 80 degree's F. I've got three airconditionare's that keep the inside of my home at a constant 72 degree's day and night. And regardless, thought not every night, will get one or more mosquito bites.
I didn’t see any mention about specifically repelling flies, just ants and mosquitoes.

Best & easiest for fruit flies in kitchen- Apple Cider vinegar
little water
Drop of dish
detergent
Small paper cups
Put liquids into cup- cut small pieces of clear wrap for tops of cups- elastic bands around each clear top, poke
SMALL holes in the clear wrap.... place around areas, even next to fruit & veggie bowels.... we COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT WE CAUGHT IN THOSE CUPS when we were away for just long weekend- easy, cheap, and effective!! ( yes, must be Apple Cider Vinegar, they love it!! )
I do this too; except I use a small water or drink bottle that has a white cap and drill 2- small holes in the cap so the scent can get out to attract them. They crawl in and are unable to fly or crawl out. Been using that same bottle over and over for years and they can get really bad when I grow cantaloupe or tomatoes outside. Neem Oil concentrate mixed in water is what I use to keep moths from depositing larvae on the underside of leaves and chewing the leaves up.
I have 3 cups in my kitchen with this solution. It works!!!

Good info to know; I didn't know cloves worked so well for mosquitoes. I've used lavender for years; mosquitoes suddenly leave me alone the instant I get the lavender oil out. Also good to know: peppermint is great for deterring ants from homesteading around your house. If you bought an old house and have what you thought was an invasive mint "infestation" no what you have is a previous occupant who knew things you didn't. Now try to find some ants. They won't be there. Bonus--my mother taught me to always put a bay leaf into the flour canister and the bags of dried beans and rice. Voila! no weevils!
I've never heard the term "homesteading" in reference to ants. LOL.

High dosaged Vitamin B1 helps keeping them away from a person. The excess amount of the vitamin is not the least bit harmful, the body just gets rid of it with the pee, which is the reason the pee will be more yellow and smell differently, so don't be alarmed if it does look different.

"Kleenex" is just a brand name, otherwise known as tissue paper. Don't get hung up on expensive brand names - there's plenty of equivalents available.
I put a dried bay leaf in the bottom of my dogs and cats dry kibbles food storage containers, no more weevils ! I have 5 rescues dogs 4 rescue cats ! yes I know that’s a lot of animals! But love them and I don’t follow other peoples ideas on how meany is acceptable ,I follow my Own tune !
