  • In this video, we brought home a 6x6 Polaris Ranger 800. The Ranger is a much-needed part of our future homestead, as it allows us to accomplish a plethora of tasks that would be much more difficult without it, such as snow plowing, log hauling, hunting, fishing, and foraging. We also install a 72" Poly Pro snow plow by KFI. The install took us a lot longer than expected, but it should be well worth it come next snowfall.
    Hi, we are Emily and Matt, and welcome to A Glimpse of Alaska! In September 2022, we (along with our puppy Aurora) made the nearly 5,000 mile drive from our home in Florida to our new home: Alaska. We created this channel to document and share our adventures in this wonderful state.
    We appreciate each and every person who spent time out of their day to watch this video! If you enjoyed this video, please consider liking and subscribing to our channel. We will be continuing to document all of our Alaskan adventures including hiking, fishing, gardening, and so much more!

    Welcome to the club of small houses and no garage! We have the "privilege" of small house/no garage living on 10 acres in Sutton! It's always an adventure and even though it can be uncomfortable sometimes we still love it!

    Where is your drawer of nuts n bolts n washers? You might want to go into town to Lowes and Home Depot and spend about $60 bucks and be sure to get a lot of metric stuff also. Plus, having a house and projects, get a box of brass sheetrock screws in 2 inch and 1and a half inch. You will always find uses for those rock screws!! It looks to me like you are in the Houston area.

      Hi! We do have a very large collection of nuts, bolts, and washers, but nothing that would suffice as a replacement for the bolt plate. It all worked out in the end though 😁

    I have a 6x6 that I plow with, works great. I'd get rid of those wings, you need to be able to throw snow to the sides. And chains hurt more than they help, just add weight to the bed.. Looking forward to this channel!

    • @AGlimpseOfAlaska
      @AGlimpseOfAlaska  Před rokem +2

      We have loved having the wings on the plow. We tried plowing without it and there was a night and day difference. Though, there are plenty of people that swear by not using them. To each their own! 😀 Also, we will probably be adding weight to the bed. Thank you for your advice!

      Hi Andrew. It’s awesome to hear you are enjoying our videos. Your support is much appreciated. I have only owned the ranger for a few months now, so I may not be the best person to ask. Regardless, here’s my take. It’s a great machine with tons of horsepower. When it’s running, it truly is a beast. The problem I am having is that it hasn’t been running in over a month now. I want to talk about it on the channel but I haven’t found an appropriate time in any of our recent videos to discuss it. The Ranger is having some charging issues. Long story short, the voltage is too low when it’s running and it won’t charge at all while driving. I am still troubleshooting it. At this point I don’t know if my issue is abnormal or not. The machine is 9 years old and has 3k miles on it so I definitely don’t expect no issues, but it’s been a bummer to not be able to use it recently. The general consensus among us Alaskan 6x6 fanatics is that the Ranger is a great machine, but if you can afford the Can-Am Defender get that instead. Much more money but much more reliable. The Ranger will work just fine for most cases if they are maintained properly. Just beware they consume a lot of oil. Hope this helps
      -Matt
