UHMW is a heavy-duty, high-impact plastic used in a variety of extreme weather applications from forestry equipment to snowmobile skis. UHMW is virtually unbreakable, significantly more wear-resistant than steel, and not adversely affected by freezing winter temperatures. In snow plow edge applications, UHMW is much quieter than steel and more gentle on surfaces, increasing the longevity of roads and protecting aesthetic surfaces such as cobblestone and driveway transitions. Interstate Plastics cuts UHMW sheet to your specified dimensions and the material’s desirable machining properties allow customers to drill bolt-holes and mount edges with ease (and with no specialized hardware required).
    Odorless, tasteless and nontoxic
Highly resistant to corrosive chemicals (except oxidizing acids)
    Extremely low moisture absorption
    Very low coefficient of friction
    Self-lubricating
Highly resistant to wear and abrasion
Easy to fabricate and machine with common shop and woodworking tools
Reprocessed grades, enhanced bearing and wear grades available, FDA compliant grades available for greatly extended part life
Reduced maintenance costs and energy consumption
    Extends equipment life

    Hello,
    Very good material indeed.
Here in Belgium, most of northern europe only this is used for municipal and airport winter purposes. Steel is considered "stone age"😂 . Rubber is also still in use for very delicate undergrounds because brushes are far more expencive.
    Cheers from Belgium.
Nice promotional video for this material.👍

This is shell from palm beach gardens Florida. Funny you had this video on today. When i was 15 years old we lived out in the Midwest and we got a lot of snow. We had a cub cadet mower small tractor to plow our driveway in the winter and cut the grass in the summer. It was a big property and a long driveway . i was running the plow during a storm once and the blade got caught in a divet in the driveway and it ripped the surface material up. My dad was not happy bit i didn't get in trouble.

Nice comparison, however, my experience is that uhmw does NOT last longer than steel. That said, it is still my edge of choice to prevent driveway scraping on customer's pavement.

UHMW is the way to go for snow removal, I have had mine on for 3 winters in MN and it still looks great. I leave it on my blade year round and use it to level rock and dirt with no issues! If it ever wears out I will definitely buy it again!

I have an X739 with a 72” snow blade equipped with a UHMW edge. I have plowed snow out of (several) neighbors’ driveways… in the wee hours of the morning… without them even hearing it. 👍🏼😊 DISCLAIMER: I did purchase my UHMW edge from Good Works Tractor. Yes, good cheap alternative to rubber for smaller plows. Not good at scraping through packed snow. Not as durable as UHMW or steel. Would have to double stack for larger or heavy duty applications.

I use the rubber edge on my 54 inch blade. It works like a squeegee on hard surfaces but as you say it will not work with packed snow or ice. The rubber has to be clamped with the steel blade.
