The girls are doing great in Tulsa! Thank you so much, Darren!
Awesome! Hopefully that's a nice queen and you can get some honey this year.
Impressed with how well that plastic hive did. Glad you're going to be able to help the guy who lost his hives.
I posted a video last week asking my viewers for ideas for making money off my homestead. One commenter suggested doing bees. As much as I am fascinated by them, it's too expensive to get started with them. I appreciated the suggestion, but I didn't think it was a good one for my current situation.
Hi HHH. Yeah, they are good, but very expensive compared to the wood hives. It worked perfect for transporting. Not a single bee got out in my car. My buddy was happy to get the hive and we caught up visiting as well. Good times.
So great of you to
Help your friend out. I was just thinking the same thing about moving one of your empty nucs boxes over till you can get them switched over an then you said you were going to switch it. Ya I just got orders delivered today from Better Bee an I got two cases of pollen patties in from HillCo . The bees love them. Also I got my hive alive delivered also . Ya it is time to get on these colony’s to try to keep them out of the trees ( or try ). Thanks
Hi Kathy, yeah, we had a good time setting it up and catching up. We became friends back in the 80's in college. My bees really like that fondant. We'll see how they do on the pollen patties. I wish I had gotten them on sooner.
Looks like Spring has sprung in your area.
Hi Emil. It is beginning to. Hopefully it stays this time. lol Take care.
Amazing bees can be be little thieves 😂😂
Yeah, they didn't let it go to waste for sure. lol Thanks for watching.
Sometimes things like this robout just happens, may have been so low on numbers they couldn't stay warm even with honey to eat and then the robber bees hit it. Love those Apimaye boxes, warmer in the winter and they stay cooler in the summer.
Hi Bowhunters. Yeah, I think they got too low on numbers for some reason. Probably not a steallar queen would be my guess. That second one was busting at the seams. Those swarm queens usually do really good like that. Thanks for watching!
Bummer on that one dead nuc. That second one was sooo strong. But the drawn comb will boost other hives. Have a good weekend in Tulsa.
Hey Russell. Yeah, that second one was bustin it. lol I don't know that that wimpy stand can take a double deep hive full of honey. It was supposed to be for nucs. lol
Crocus....Dahlias....blooming...That is so far away for me here in N. Idaho. So far.
Lots of blooms starting and apricot tree is blooming as well I just noticed. Thanks for watching.
looking good Darren, our weather is all over the place also, snow 1 day then 60s the next, bees want to get things started. pollen coming in when it when it is only in the 50s now. take care buddy!!
Hey BillyBoy! Lots of yellow pollen coming in here. Hopefully no late freezes to kill all the fruit tree blooms.
i have small orchard, and every year we get late freeze, and it kills my peach blooms. i am lucky to get 1 peach crop every 5 years.
Darren it's weird how those dead outs work. I lost 3 just like that. Camp sugar and a lot of honey in the top box one frame away from the cluster. Puzzled the heck outta me. Great video. I hope your friend is able to keep this colony going.
HI Jon. Yeah, I think sometimes the queen is on the verge of failing in the Fall and they just eek them far enough into winter to fizzle out. No way for them to overcome that. Thanks for watching!
Your hives looking good. Saw some drone brood yesterday. Things are moving fast. Take care!
I saw drone brood yesterday as well. Doing some hive rotations. Apricot tree is in full bloom and freeze coming. lol.
Mug up Darren, from central NH where it is 8 f out at 7am. I still have a couple feet of snow on my daffodils, thanks for the signs of spring.
Cheers Lamb Brook Farm. It's a small price to pay for those mild summers. lol Good luck to you this year.
@@JeromeBeeFarm Indeed, but don't tell anyone I said so.👍😎👍
Glad the fondant is working for you. I was surprised to see brood in top and bottom. Looks like bees died after you added the fondant. The other 2 nucs look awesome. Im glad it's spring somewhere. 19°F in WNY this morning.
Hey Tom. Yeah, we had about ten days of freezing weather down in the 20's at night. I figure that took them out.
Have you seen the condensing hive video on Betterbee? I've been using reflextics and 2" foam board. It seems to help conserve and preserve heat in the cluster.
Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for stopping in fuzzy.
Thanks for sharing. Pity about the 3rd hive being a deadout. I also expected the Apimaye to be a little stronger. That one had sugar and fondant and no pollen patty?
Hi Kennith. Yeah, bummer, but those things happen for whatever reason. I put pollen patties on this weekend. The Apimaye got one after I located it to Tulsa in it's new hive. It was in good shape, but not nearly as strong as that second nuc. That was a swarm queen and they usually do really well.
