The Senatorum Imperialis (officially the Lords Temporal, Martial and Ecclesiarchical of the Most Divine and Righteous Imperium of Mankind) collectively form the Council of the High Lords of Terra. The Senatorum is an Imperial governing body led by twelve leaders of the most powerful organisations of the Imperium. This body rules the Imperium in the Emperor's name. The Senatorum itself is composed of tens of thousands of Imperial dignitaries, nobleman, lords, and other officials, but these rarely meet and instead the "High Twelve" conduct the vast majority of affairs.
The task of the High Lords is to interpret and enact the will of the Emperor. Accordingly, the position of High Lord was the most powerful in the Imperium until the reemergence of Roboute Guilliman, who declared himself Imperial Regent, or the Emperor's Living Voice.

My favorite thing about 40k is that no one can count.
They destroyed a hiveworld with 20 hive cities of 5 billion each, that's like 2 million dead.
There are 20 primarchs, except there's 18, except one of them is 2 people so 19
There are 4 chaos gods and Vashtoor is attempting to become the 6th
There are 9 high lords in the High 12

There’s a story about a time in which they were paired with another chapter to deal with some chaos, when the battle ended, one of their Contemptor dreadnoughts emerged covered in gore. To which one of the marines of the other chapter shot at it thinking it was a chaos spawn, ti which the contemptor got so pissed he charged at them, killed some marines and tore open a Leman Russ tank. I have a theory, Minotaurs use what was determined to be Chimeric gene seed. I believe their siege ability comes from Iron Warriors, but I think the other part is Thunder Warrior. They use cybernetic and psycho indication more than any other chapter that we know of, possibly helping in solving the physical and mental degradation. The iron Warrior gene seed is incredibly stable and meant for mass production, maybe also helping the stabilization process. Lastly, they always act in full chapter movements and use similar tactics of Thunder Warriors

Guys come in, he gives the villain monologue and 100 tubes containing frozen evesors pop up. The tubes are basically leaking liquid nitrogen so the room becomes all foggy too which is the last place you want evesors jumping out at you from given the assassins had been in the nitrogen and didn't show up on thermal imaging while the the space marines definitely did.

It’s a really fun novel btw, if you enjoy Assassinorum or Execution Force, it’s an intimate look at the first “execution force” of assassins, as well as an early Crime novel intertwined.
If anyone tells you that you can skip some of the Horus Heresy but you are enjoying the setting, read the “side quest” novels, like Battle for the Abyss, Damnation of Pythos, Nemesis, Descent of Angels, etc. as they flesh out the setting waaaaay more than the “main” HH novels.

To give a slightly more detailed happening of the beheading. High assassin guy was placed in charge of the high lords by the then chapter master of the imperial fists (who was actually the chapter master of the fist or first exemplars because the the last chapter master of the imperial fists and last actual original imperial fist was killed by the beast) and told to keep them from in fighting which caused huge problems for the war. Well the second the fists were gone and peaced the infighting and plotting happened again which kind of broke the assassin leader because they literally just saw what they could do together and that the infighting had caused… so he set up a plan to kill/control/replace the high lords. Those he couldn’t control he had killed (assassination and tricking into committing suicide) those he could control he did (he kept the inquisition rep he was in love with prisoner and legitimized the fabricator general who did tech heresy and moved his mind to a computer.) and then replaced them all with people loyal . This lasted for a century until assassin leader went insane. Fists came back to deal with it. Where yeah.. 1 man standing.

about the artwork of the highlords of terra, i also love that immensly and i really want to see a lord solar painted in that colour scheme.
not sure if they later talk about it, but i am pretty sure Leontus is not a high lord of terra.
while a lord solar technically can become highlord its usually the Lord Commander Militant that fullfills that role and contrary to morvenn vahl which was in her community reveal directly called highlord, they didnt call leontus a highlord in any media i could find.
i think the artwork is more supposed to represent the leaders on terra preparing for the new front of tyrannids. since thats what the trailer the artwork is from is also about.

His horse who does not have the protection of said helmet, and who has been blown up hundreds of times over hundreds of years, who's probably just 14 braincells and half a rib at this point, only to be duct taped back together just to do it all again tommorow: why won't I just die...
