Chuck, when they coined the phrase "old school," they had me in mind. I come from a family that has been hustling freight here in Oklahoma for years. Long story short, it is a pleasure to find that hard working men such as yourself still exist. Like I say, I'm old school and was brought up to earn my wages. You could work for or with me anytime. Keep it up. This country needs more example setters like you
I greatly appreciate that 👊🏻
I worked for an environmental company years ago and we would have to dispatch to go clean out entire Estes trailers at the local terminal near us because a fork truck driver pierced a pallet of car batteries or the like. We would get called at minimum twice a month. Each time we spent between 5 and 10 hours cleaning out entire loaded trailers neutralizing the acid that got on the loads and cleaning the trailer inside and out. One time it so bad the acid ate the floor of the trailer and looked like swiss cheese. So Im well aware of the lack of care from the shipping/receiving workers, especially the one time I almost got speared by a fork truck operator that bashed right through our cones and caution tape we set up in front of the loading dock while cleaning a spill. 😔🤷 Glad to see drivers like you taking pride and care with your loads.
Days like this are never fun, especially when some of these places have rude workers it can really set you up to have a bad day, as always thanks for shedding light on what us p&d guys deal with.
So I’ve got a few years in shipping and receiving and I’ve got to say, R+L was my favorite just because the guy we got every time. The only time they weren’t was when our normal driver wasn’t working.
XPO was a different caliber of professionalism, almost snobby in some cases, but did they ever get shit where it was needed fast.
Estes was always a crapshoot on how your pallet would come in and how my customer would receive it, but them drivers were always the most chill and friendly.
SMT for customers south of the border, it’s always refreshing to talk to somebody like my grandpa, being called mijo with my thick mustache and grey hairs.
And AAA Cooper and Old Dominion exist as well. No complaints about either but nothing much to say about them either.
It’s interesting to see how the drivers day goes in actually getting the shit to the customer. Pretty well entertaining.
12 years on the dock now and some days that's how it goes unfortunately. Right now we are out of straps and shrink wrap at our terminal. We were downstacking pallets last night because we had zero straps to hold the freight in place. Made for a long night loading city up. We have to beg other terminals to use more straps just so that we have some to use. Our biggest problem is no shrink wrap though. Only thing we can recoup with is tape, so lots of awful looking taped up pallets.
Matt, I have huge props for dock personnel, they have the hardest job and they set the time for city and LH.
Good way to turn a negative into a positive… It turns into a bad day real quick when my trailer isn’t loaded properly
Hey Chuck!
I work as a receiver at one of my local grocey stores and there jave been countless times where we would have product falling over in the trailer. Its super annoying for both myself and the driver. The comapny that delivers to us is a company called Armour Transportation Systems that operates just within Atlantic Canada so we get a lot of the same drivers every day but even when theres a driver that hasnt been to my store before I always try to make the most out of a bad situation. Crack jokes and complain together about the pallets. I try to make both of our days better despite having a load that had fallek over in the truck. The other day we had multiple pallets that has bags of chips on the bottom and then like pet food and other various heavy product on top and we had to repack multiple pallets. 14 pallets turned into like 16 pallets and the store I work at is only small so our back area gets pretty tight after a bigger order around 16 pallets or so. Annoying but I did my best to brighten the day for the driver and we just cracked jokes about the load being a disaster.
Your loaders did you wrong Chuck, however you took it stride like a true professional. Roll with situation that is presented to you. Thanks for the journey.
Hi Chuck you reminded me of Mondays and end of the month days so much work . I loved a paid holiday but the fact was 5 days work in 4 days . I got a old timers tip for you with glad hands . We would put a little 5th wheel Grease around the rubber and it stop the air leak . The important part is a little grease . I always had two load bar’s one to hold my pallet jack and Secure the freight. My experience was operate your truck is a safe manner one stop at a time . Patience is so important you try to push it and bad things happen. I always wore gloves got tired of those nasty wood splinters. To me Chuck a good day was going out with a full trailer and coming back with a full trailer. Be safe Chuck .
Good tip 👊🏻
Chuck, glad to have ran across your channel. I was a P&D driver for Averitt Express for 5 years and there are days I miss it. This brings back some great memories of that job. Keep up the good work brother.
Worked in 3 places in Milwaukee that had no loading dock. Everything had to be driven inside to use the crane, or handled outside with the forklift. Many times I had to chain up a pallet to drag it back in the trailer, or use several pallets laid down in the truck to push loads in far enough to make room. Not to mention stuff that came in loose...
Good morning, Chuck from Nova Scotia, Canada. I like your channel! I have done some courier work in the past and had to deal with missorts and incorrect loading.
I enjoyed the customers on my runs!
Take care!
Wow Chuck!! Never have seen your trailer full to the brim with deliveries. Glad you made a negative day into a positive day.
Travis, I definitely had my work cut out for me but we got it done. Thanks for coming along as always!!
Going from linehaul for the last 4 years to P&D starting next week… kind of nervous about it but I’m really wanting those day hours to have more of a normal family life.
It is nice to be on the same schedule as your family. You will do great!!
Yessss 9-5 work, weekends and holidays off!!!
I know that feeling very so well every day cause some days your first run will be ready to go when you hook up and then there are times inbound will work to get the last stuff on there taking time to get it loaded. It’s a miserable feeling but it is what it is and sometimes you just have to figure a game plan for your main route when you come back to to make headway
Yes sir, You are constantly planning for sure
I've had residential delivery from Estes FedEx freight, and a few others always good, and impressed how they maneuver in tight residential streets..always tip drivers when making residential delivery ...and those green trucks, abs the orange ones
You are a very hard worker and such a positive person , enjoyed watching!
i love watching these vlogs they're always full of info and i look forward to the next one
Much appreciated 👊🏻
This is cool. The last account I was on was similar. Know your customers, dock situations, build relationships, jump out go in and talk to people. Never go in somewhere all hotheaded because you’re in a hurry. They will remember if you were like that and someday you’re gonna need a favor from them. Tricky backs, tight turns in customer’s yards. Trailer loaded all jacked up. It’s not a job for your interstate cowboy steering wheel holder. You either love it or you hate it.
I tell you have everything in order, and know how to get the job done. I am 88 years old and I will be watching you this afternoon. Have a good day and be safe.
I'm P&D for Estes as well. You ain't kidding when you say dockworkers can set you up to fail or win.
In my opinion they are the most important teammates we have. It’s hard work and they set the tone for the day.
Is it common for trailers to be loaded and secured poorly? I would think management would be all over that.
When I worked at Watkins they had one loader that loaded a few city routes , the rest of the drivers loaded their own trailers.
Hey im your brotha from another mother. Lol. Mannnn I ran into your channel and started binge watching your videos.. My brother i love them all, you are soooo positive and I love your energy.. I currently drive for TCW here in Birmingham, AL on a dedicated rubber and cigarette route. I listen to your videos even while driving, and you've helped me have a better day at times.. Keep them coming.. I love you, and God Bless my brother 🙏 ❤
New Subscriber....
Welcome to then channel very glad to have you!! Stay safe driver!!
Recouping freight that’s always fun. When I get done fixing the freight I’ll walk to the computer and write it up as 1SKD not secured. 9pcs damaged crushed.
Oh man I had a day like this yesterday myself. Everywhere I went seemed to take 10-20 mins longer than it should...days like that will drive you nuts. But hey it's better than being stuck in an office behind a computer all day!
True statement
Dam, doing delivery's with a 53 footer. bless you sir, I did some with 48's back in my days of driving but in out of town areas like you are doing.
If you got the room you are ok most of the time.
I worked inbound for 3 years before deciding to go into driving and I have seen plenty of trailers with pallets turned over and that. And being on P&D being on the receiving end of it
Dock workers have the hardest job and I give them props but they make or brake a route.
Yea cause your that behind that scenes person that makes things happen but don’t get recognition for the work that you do and that’s partly into why the load quality goes down
1976 I started my Truckin' career in P&D with a small outfit, I drove a 1965 White single axle, it was hairy times, lots of muscle work in Cincinnati, all finger print LTL..
Started with UPS Freight. Man, takes me back...
Today was one of them days here at 025. I left with 12 del. At 11:30 I was sitting at 15 delieverys and pickups. But it is what it is. You find a way to get it done!
Senior drivers with the easy routes are watching Chuck work his nuggets off and just layin back....laughing.
😂😂 All drivers face these challenges regardless of seniority 😁 That’s P&D
I've seen many loads that look just like that. It's very frustrating for both the driver and the recievers, when the loads look like they've been loaded with a snowblower. I try (and have gotten better) to not let stuff like this get me ,but it is very frustrating.
Been there Chuck. The day eventually comes to an end. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. 🚛
That 53 was overloaded
“Kitty route” 🤣🤣 The sad thing is, it takes some guys ALL DAY to run 5 deliveries 🤦🏻♂️
True statement
Thanks for the video Chuck! Stay safe!!
Thanks Jim 👊🏻
Wow Chuck they really had you running but for as the pallets falling over I see that everyday at my job
Don't let the "safety ninjas" see you go under the forks. They'll have kittens.
We hav enough of them on YT 😂
Damn your trailer is stuffed to the brim! I would’ve refused them double stacking delivery’s.
Why? Are you a newbie? Man....just get the job done.
Never knew forklift forks could be adjusted
Ive had to downstack 150 bags of salt at a residential delivery in 90 degree weather. Skids were loaded sideways on a liftgate 😅😅
Those lift gate deliveries can be fun. I made a vlog where I off loaded 14k in roofing materials by hand in hot weather. You never forget those deliveries 😂
I did almost the same thing 5 bundles composite flooring bundles 12,14,16 feet long. Drag them to the back 8 teams of 2 carried them to a second floor patio for a pizza bar. Soaked in sweat!!
it should b a crime 4 someone 2 b this cheerful on a monday morning,lol.
😂😂
Holy cow the trailers packed!
I envy you truckers. Me, I did the noisy 2 legged freight carriers [Chartered], lol. And I even miss that. Can't see well no more, said CA DMV. [sad]
I hope your week gets easier Chuck! Mondays, 😩
Thanks Chuck!
Some people just don't have a clue as to how load a pallet and then properly wrap it.
Glad you was able to get everything delivered in one piece tho
We they set you up with a crazy number of stops where even a 5 minute delay can cause you problems effects more than just the p&d driver. Like that box truck at the beginning of the video. They had to stop unloading him to get that 1 pallet from you. I'm an otr driver and I've spent hours at a dock because every 5-10 minutes they have to stop unloading me and take care of a p&d ltl driver.
It's no wonder so many day cab drivers are so aggressive driving in traffic and at customers.
Sorry... rant over. 😆
Never that stacked up on stops.
@@TheTulsaTrucker , sounds like you are just simply more efficient than other p&d drivers I've encountered. I've had a few actually cut behind me, blocking a dock I'm trying to back into and steal it.
They wouldn't be happy when the customer made them move because they took a dock that I was specifically told to bump! Lol
Hello chuck from San Antonio Texas stay safe keep on trucking amigo
👊🏻
you could get a ticket for no mud flap on that trailer.
Got it fixed at the terminal, we good. Cops don’t really mess with city drivers. Now OTR DOT would be all over it.
i know what is it... im a LTL driver too. for me its regular to see fallen down pallets
Holy smoke you have a lot stop. I have same thing I was work long Island New York New England Motor Freight 23 yrs I tell you was I stop like 21- 25 Delivered that is hard work and pick up it too many hour like 10 -12 hours a day. But it out business chapter 11 4 year now I retired it all good. 👍
The whistling noise from your suspension, sounds like your tire inflation system leaking thru the hubcap seal.
Yup, dead lined the trailer when got back to the yard.
Does Estes give you the same route daily like a territory? I do P&D for XPO and unless your a senior driver we have to go all over in multiple different cities within a 50 mile radius.
Not all drives have set routes but many do. Then we have drivers that fill in for routes and extra freight
OTR driver here.
If I had a dollar for every time a p&d driver asked to jump in front of me at a dock I'd be a rich man.
😂😂 We thank you sir, we promise to be out of the way in a jiffy 🤣
@@TheTulsaTrucker pay me 50 bucks and I'll let you in front lol
Turned and double stacked?? Yikes, I’d never do that to ya my terminal pal😉
Sealed the deal! Extra board for life!
😂😂 Driver we need you in the City!!
I think you secretly want to become a forklift operator
😂😂🤣. I don’t enjoy those guys at all. Mad props to them but they can make it brake a route.
One thing i notice is when you pull up the receiver is heading out with the forklift.. my stops you gotta go in walk the place and then they come out
I have some like that but most of my customers are Awesome
That piping you were refering to is called finntube...
👊🏻
Chuck, I think your dock screwed you over definitely not your friend today. I guess it goes back to the saying SHIT HAPPENS!!
I mad respect for all Dock workers but they definitely set the tone for the day.
I can do this job function easily hands down but a co driver is where I draw the line at..
I regret coming to covenant and am going to leave as soon as I possibly can..
I would love the Estes account though but no co driver, no teaming period..
Teaming is a ruff lifestyle for sure.
Terminal 128 checking in.... P&D DRIVER
Always good to hear from a teammate 👊🏻
One customer can completely throw your day off to because they hold you up or something
Chuck I have not followed u in a few months. Last I watched u were working at night on the spare board going all over the place. What happened.
Thanks
Terminal was short P&D drivers and they gave me a route to run so I came back. Always have to take care of your terminal first 👍🏻
Hurt my back today chuck In the warehouse lifting heavy box any tips
Plenty of rest is always a good beginning.
I work for xpo ltl. The McElroy plant is that the one where they make the plastic welding pipe fusion machines that are green there?
Yes
Sounds like you've got a leaky tire or possibly a valve stuck open in the auto inflate system on the trailer.
It’s been fixed 👍🏻
Is that a 12 speed or automatic trans? When I was a city driver, I always set up for the next stop having that pallet right at the door. I miss being a driver, being a nurse now always inside. Great videos!
That was auto 12, if know a customer has a forklift I let them grab the pallets.
Is the pay pretty good ? I make 35 hour local but I unload the truck myself and is already getting old. I'm looking for something better
My tue was like this what your dealing with chuck !! That's trucking unfortunately !!
Double stacked on a 53' ...... sheeeesh talk about loaded
She was packed full. 😂
Hey Chuck. Are you back doing P&D again? Just curious why if you don’t mind me asking. I’m torn on whether I should do that or Line Haul
Just had an opportunity to run a route and my terminal is short handed P&D drivers so came back for now.
👍
Volvo. Dang man you have my condolences. 😮💨
Team Volvo any day 😁
that is not DOT thing now is it if it is that becuse i never ware glaves getting fuel are unlouning the truck
Inbound*** knows better ;) but yes, that’s totally inbound dock 101 there. Just sad
We all have bad days and I have huge props for dock personnel but they set the tone.
You should charge outbound a lumper fee for restacking 😜
😂😂. As long as we can limit this to every Once in a blue moon 🤣
I'm having a thought, I wonder if Estes Express would be interested in being one of the first companies to have their company in a game and hit up SCS Software. I personally would like to see Estes Express come to American Truck Simulator and have their dedicated logos and yards in the game. Swift Transport is already in the works but there's no telling when their company is coming to the game but it would be cool if Estes beat them to being the first.
If you do send this idea up to one of your higher up guys there I hope they are interested.
Trucks moving peoples stuff...stuff just keeps on moving
Saludos desde Ecuador 👍🏻👋🏻
HDPE - High Density Polyethylene
Take photos of poorly secured loads and submit them to the loading management.
How do you "blind back" a day cab?
I guess you didn’t hear everything 😂😂
I feel like a few drivers are wondering and I’m not sure if you answered this. We went to prime together and prime doesn’t offer training with a manual cdl truck. Did you get your restriction taken off at Estes?
I rented a manual truck and went down and got the restriction taken off myself.
@@TheTulsaTrucker thanks, I figured some newer driver might want to know. Company after prime allowed me to use a truck. Keep up the great work!
@@TheTulsaTrucker I love watching your trucking videos on your CZcams channel
How often does Estes make their drivers bid on new routs?
LH once a year, no bids in the city.
wonder if any estes trucks still have a manual trans
Still a good bit. I got one myself.
Most do not
As a P&D driver at Estes, Do you drive the same truck everyday?
Most of the time, route drivers do unless their truck is away for service.
Hi chuck are you still on Linehaulwork or did you go back to PND
Back in the city for awhile, my terminal is short on drivers.
I've been an otr driver for many many years but now I'm thinking of getting something local kinda like what your doing. Not getting into your personal$$ income..but if u could kindly tell me what is the average a driver doing what you do what is the pay like..I appreciate any info. You can give me take care out there. God bless
65-75k if you do P&D 95-105k if you want to run line haul.
@@TheTulsaTrucker thank you, ill look into this.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
OK
You sound like you watch Bone Head Truckers. You'll either shake your head, laugh or cry for the stupidity of all kinds of drivers. Good videos, good watching. 👍
What happen to doing line hauls?
Came back to the city to run a route
Do you get paid extra per stop or is it just straight salary?
P&d is paid by the hour and linehaul is paid per mile.
Comment below is correct
Damn you have an abf driver that hijacked your intro... at least it seems like a responsible driver not a amazon prime all over the road driver... safe travels chuck
Sure hope he way your trailer was packed not an everyday occurrence, if i were receiving a box CRUSHED as bad as some in this video, I'd REFUSE to accept the box.
Given i don't work in a BUISINESS warehouse, I imagine this is a DAILY OCCURRENCE 🤔
Doesn’t happen often and we have great customers. Boxes normally look worse than it is.
Can an introvert do good as a pd driver?
Probably would do better on Line Haul but for a season could do P&D
What does P&D stand for?
Pick up and delivery
