  • Chris Arpin demonstrates the change in a candy colors value created when applied over different metallic bases. Shown are the differences when 4650 candy2o Blood Red is applied over Wicked Metallic White, Wicked Metallic Gold, AutoBorne 6013 Silver Sealer and a graphite-metallic made by mixing AutoBorne Silver Sealer 4:1 Wicked Black.
    candy2o was set-up by mixing 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear 6:1 4650 Blood Red. Thinning with 4011 Reducer was not required.

      Double Ditto for me too. That Graphite Base made the color pop with exactly what I was looking for. I was considering a silver or gold base for the true metallic finish and may yet go that direction with a wild cherry base or a black cherry base. Yet undecided but that graphie almost makes that option a moot point. It is the color I want. 1 Question in my mind is I want to do a silver or gold marbled effect and figured the graphite would help eliminate the need for a matallic basecoat. Your Thoughts Chris?

    Really good video! Been playing with candy for a while now, and I can only agree, the ground coat is everything when it comes to candy. It's like it's completely different colors depending on what you spray it over. I completed a bike the other day for a friend after a lot of testing of different mixes. Ended up with Sealer Black, then 2 coats of Cosmic Sparkle Autumn Red, followed by Candy2o Brandywine mixed 4:1 with 4050 UVLS Gloss. (of course 1 part candy to 4 parts 4050) On top, 2k clear and some cut n buff. It came out awesome and my friend is reeealy happy, thanks to your help and tech support!

      4050 UVLS Gloss Clear over candy2o does help protect the candy2o, and create a gloss finish that helps create dimension and bring the cnayd2o to life. Best protection, especially for exterior and automotive, is top-coating with a catalyzed (2k) urethane clear. • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před rokem +1

      Wicked Metallic Silver can be applied over a base of AutoBorne Sealer Black or Grey, and used as a base for candy20. However, 6013 Silver Sealer is much better as it has a higher metallic count and is more reflective, which is why we use it as the standard base silver for candy20. However, any metallic can be used as a base for candy20, each producing a different value (color) of candy. Thank you.

    What is this madness! I'm looking to paint one of my models and eventually my bug this same way. I was hoping to use either hot rod sparkle or silver as my undercoat with blood red candy over it, my other option was gun metal gray with candy black over it. Probably doing two tone with the gray on bottom, red on top. I wasn't sure if I should use red as my undercoat with hot rod sparkle over that and then candy over it or if I could just get away with the hot rod sparkle with blood red candy over that. In the end, I wanted a very dark red and a very smoky gray with tons of sparkle under it. Thank you for this video, and all the ones in the past and future, I've learned a lot.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 3 lety +1

      Createx 's best adhesive clear for application direct to plastics, including polycarbonate, is 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer is essentially just s good in regard to adhesion and durability for polycarbonate, and if painting with an airbrush, not spray-gun, may be easier to apply with less reduction compared to the more viscous 4050. Its worth noting that also mixing 4030 Balancing clear, even at 10% per volume, greatly improves both adhesion and mar / scratch resistance of both Createx Airbrush Colors and Wicked Colors, which also each can be applied direct to polycarbonate easily. Use of 4050 or 6000 direct to polycarbonate can help achieve a great coating with excellent durability, but isn't as critical for adhesion as would use of 4050 would be, for example, painting glass. Thank you.

    I'm after a darker version of the red+graphite metallic base in the video. Instead of darkening at the ground coat level and layering on candy coats, could I make the darkening adjustments by making a 4050/candy2o black + red mix and adding that to the silver sealer? Would combining all the components into one mix diminish the depth of sparkle of the silver sealer metallic vs layering candy over a darker silver sealer? Thank you!

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 3 lety +1

      A test panel is the only real way of answering your question. Try a few with varying techniques. Layering a candy neat (no pearl0 over a base metallic or base of the same candy mixed with a pearl creates "more dimension" compared to mixing candy + pearl and applying that as color before the 2k gloss clear. Applying candy + pearl is easier to do uniformly compared to spraying candy neat, so for larger projects the little less dimension of the candy + pearl color may be a better option to ensure an evenly applied, good looking finish. For a candy paintjob o=over a vehicle, applying the candy + pearl color first (a "cheater coat") followed by the candy neat coats works well to hide any uneven application. Thanks.

    I am doing a candy Red on a honda motorcycle. Just a slight mark on a panel,do I need to paint the whole panel as in prime the panel and do it all form fresh??blowing in candy doesn't work in my experience??!!!!

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 2 lety +1

      There is a technique to doing a candy graphic that is blended in seamless with the original finish. This is accomplished by top-coating the entire panel (graphic & mid-coat colors) with the same clear type as what was used to top-coat the original finish, probably a solvent-based 2k gloss clear. We made a video on how-to spot blend repair candy which may be helpful, czcams.com/video/cyQbt33uNDk/video.html. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes. Adding a little candy2o 4653 Tequila Yellow to 4662 Dirt Track Brown makes a root beer. Mix this with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear and apply over the bases as shown in the video. Thank you.

    If i want to use this candy over carbon fiber how should i do it to get the best result?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před rokem +1

      Apply a transparent, adhesive ground-coat of either AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear direct to the carbon fiber, then apply candy2o, then top-coat with a catalyzed (2k) urethane, gloss clear. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 3 lety

      The red can add a bit of dimension and deepen/ darken the underlying red, but this technique is much better off with metallic & pearl colors. Wicked w303 Pearl Red, wickedairbrushcolors.com/pearl-and-metallic. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před rokem +1

      Generally, 4050 is added in greater amounts than the concentrated candy2o dyes. We usually recommend a mix ratio of 6 to 8 parts 4050 to one part candy2o (4050 6:1 candy2o). Thank you.

      Yes, mix candy20 with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. The ratio is generally 1:1 for airbrush, and 4050 Gloss Clear 6:1 candy20 for spray gun. For more on mixing candy20, please see the tech sheet and candy20 mix videos available at www.candy20.com. Thank you.

      A 2k urethane clear was sprayed. Createx paints are compatible with any 2k urethane clear. While we most often use PPG EC550 for a quality, high gloss finish, we recently sprayed C-800 ICON Clear with good results, spraygunner.com/american-icon-1/. Thank you.
