This episode was very well done I really enjoyed the black and white giving it a manga feel and only highlighting the sabers and the way they glowed was amazing. I want more from Ronin's story

So here's some details about this universe of Star Wars.
This is a version where the Jedi were loyal to the Empire. The Jedi were formed into different clans. Like Samurai clans. Apparently, there was a jedi rebellion, or a sect of them turned against the ones who followed the Empire. They called themselves the Sith.
The Sith rebellion lost, (i think since they mentioned the "great war.")
But the great news is, there will be a graphic novel releasing in October which will go more into Ronin's story.

Almost certain it's a standard novel (not "graphic", "visual" etc.) that's coming out in October.
(on the website of the author - Emma Mieko Candon - it just says "An original Star Wars novel inspired by the upcoming animated Star Wars Visions, 'The Duel.'")

This was such a cool episode, I especially enjoy the asthetics and cinematography the episode brought with the old black and white as a knod to the Samurai films Akira Kurosawa which George Lucas cited as inspiration for his creation of Star Wars.
Plus the voice cast in the English dub of the short is impressive as you got Lucy Liu as the Bandit Leader and Brian Tee as the lone warrior Ronin.
Looking forward to the rest of your reaction to the other shorts Wendy and Dustin.

This is definitely a great tribute to Magnificent Seven and Seven Samurai.

Also normally I’m an English Dub supporter for anime but in the case I much prefer the sub, especially with the art style which looks like an ancient Japanese sketch.

The writing for the title at the beginning was actually in Aurebesh (Star Wars alphabet) not Japanese. But because it looks casually written with a paintbrush it's understandable that people would mistake it at first. I did a double take at first as well. lol I just knew I recognized those symbols but also that they weren't Japanese. 😆 Awesome reaction as always dudes. Until next time! ❤️

That was such a fantastic episode !
Got an extremely Kurosawa vibe to it, like a mix between Yojimbo and 7 samurais.
I would definitely love to see an entire series about this Ronin. This character could have the potential to be as badass as the Mandalorian.

I think this episode was the best one in terms of overall plot, action, cinematography, and balancing Japanese culture with Star Wars. I enjoyed other episodes too but some of them suffered from pacing problems because of the relatively short lengths of the episodes.
Also Lucy Liu absolutely killed it as the Sith Lady. This episode was great in both Japanese and English dubbing.

This style looked very familiar, somehow. Almost like a Ralph Bakshi LOTR-style rotoscoped deal, like they just animated over people in costume or maybe used motion capture, because a lot of the movements of the characters when they're not fighting looked pretty realistic.
This had so much Kurosawa influence like Seven Samurai with lightsabers which we've seen before in this universe in Mandalorian and in Clone Wars, but visualy never like this.
The main force-wielder guy in this is called simply Ronin (I like it but im biased, of course, lol) leads me to speculate that he was a Jedi who maybe was expelled from the Jedi Order, maybe had a brush with the dark side, but he's definitely not a Sith, as he's been going around collecting Sith kyber crystals. Visions has been a very nice treat, both cinematically and visually, I have always wanted to see anime married with my favorite space fantasy, and this year I got my wish! Thank you, Lucasfilm!

I've only seen this first episode so far, but I think what makes this rendition of Star Wars work so well is the fact that it doesn't break any rules of the source material and even pays respect to it. What didn't work about the New Trilogy (aside from the obvious of screwing Luke and shitty writing overall) was the fact that it had things that were a clear warping of the rules of the lore itself, like a Padawan being able become strong enough to challenge a much more seasoned opponent in the force and combat skill just in the first movie. Or lightsabers having weight to them like Kilo Ren's "Great Sword" lightsaber. Or classic characters being totally wasted or turned into dumbasses. Or bringing back the emporer for no real reason and having Rey be able to hold back force lightening that was destroying entire spaceships, or even just the idea of force lightening being that powerful. Overall the trilogy just didn't show an ounce of care for the material, very much like the people behind it.
This however, even with the feudal Japan 50's movie aesthetic and things like the lightsaber umbrella, nothing really broke any rules of the lore. If she had started using the lightsaber umbrella to fight the Ronin and was able to move it like it was weightless, than that wouldn't make sense cuz clearly most of the weapon is made of metal. This ain't RWBY. It also wouldn't work if she was to fight with a heavy umbrella cuz then it would be like the Kilo Ren situation with a slow moving heavy weapon, which just doesn't work in Star Wars that well. So I think it was genius and an awesome spin that the umbrella part was a component that she could detach for 1v1 combat against another lightsaber wielder, basically upholding the Star Wars fundamental of fast paced lightsaber fighting. And as for the Ronin himself, he is shrouded in mystery rn, but the concept of a wandering Sith hunter feels completely natural to a Star Wars character because he is outside the confines of Jedi or Sith. There are so many theories that have been made for him and the reason that the speculation works is that the story was crafted in a way that still allows us to formulate theories using the rules of Star Wars that do exist. So what we got was a proper and creative blending of two genres that shows love for both. It's also awesome considering that Star Wars took inspiration from feudal Japan and its like its coming full circle.
I'll have to see the other episodes tho to see if this holds up. Some may not, but at least they aren't canon. Upon seeing the trailer, the lightsaber whips seemed questionable but I'll have to see. Can't wait to watch them.

The "Visions" shorts are all basically the Star Wars version of "What If?" None of them take place in the canonical timeline, though a few get close. Most take place in some equivalent after the fall of the Empire, while a few take place during the Empire, and a few take place in "realities" that are completely different from what happened in ANY of the movies OR books.

My interpretation: a former Sith who became disillusioned with the ways of the order until he came across the long-lost teachings of Revan, Darth gravid and Darth vectivus as well as the teachings of the blackguard and the je'daii order thus decided to became a gray sided wielder of the force seeking Redemption and atoning for his service to the dark side of the force by helping and defending those in need!

I think he was a jedi or studied the art of the jedi but ultimately determined their philosophy wasnt for him. But he did learn how dangerous the sith were... maybe lost family or teachers to them. So he went out to hunt them and using any color other than red would put a target on his back and sith would openly attack first. Where as if he has a red saber jedi wont typically attack first... theyd report tot he council. And it seems hes not evil so if they pursued him I assume theyd report that hes just kind of living his life.

I have a theory about the end. When he destroyed the lightsaber, took the crystal, and gave it to the kid. 1st, maybe he was a recent Sith who turned to a Jedi, because I feel like he was tryin to do right with the wrong, the 2nd thing is that the end, when he gave that Cyber Crystal to the child, because he senses that the child is a force sensitive, giving him the Cyber Crystal, which the color of that crystal in that lightsaber built n length with the connection to the force🧐🧐🧐

This ep is canonically said to be after order 66 and/or after the empire fell and before the first order had risen, but these shows aren’t canon until at least we decide which eps deserve spinoffs based off our reviews which i’m sure will all be *well reviews and critiques and not whiny man children complaining about the “crappy cg artsyle”*
And this force wielder is just a sith hunter who collects the crystals, he is no sith. Just a simple wanderer.

I think Star Wars Visions is Disney and Lucasfilm getting very desperate. They are looking for anything new that they can make money on but they don't want to give up on SJW political correctness.
