    This is honestly one of the best episodes in all of Star Wars TV PERIOD!
    I absolutely loved the look of the colorless lightsaber. And I loved how they took the meaning of the colors back to what they meant back in the old Knights of the Old Republic, how the colors represent the personality of that person.

  • @EChacon

    _The Ninth Jedi_ has everything we want from a Star Wars story, interesting lore, interesting characters and lots of surprises and twists set centuries after the events of _The Rise of Skywalker._ Speaking of the twists, I loved how they handled the twist in the short cause there was question when Ethan and the others arrived at the Station whether it was a trap to kill the Jedi or the Dark Side Acolytes and on the Margrave/Juro's identity if he was a Sith or a Jedi, but when the others (minus Ethan and Kara) were revealed to be Dark Side Acolytes when the sabers turned Red and Juro/Margrave was a Jedi planning this trap on the Acolytes my mind was blown.
    It's also fascinating how the Kyber Crystals in the Lightsabers change color depending on the user's personality and Traits which was an idea featured in Marvel Comics adaptation of _Return of the Jedi_ when Darth Vader holds Luke Skywalker's lightsaber which changed from Green to Red.
    Even the animation is done by one of the most recognizable Anime Studios in Japan, *Production I.G.* and I really digged the English dub voice Cast consisting of Masi Oka (Heroes) as Ethan, Kimiko Glenn (Broadway's Waitress, Orange is the New Black, Lena in DuckTales 2017) as Kara and Simu Liu (Shang Chi) as Kara's Father.
    I do hope that this and the other shorts _The Duel, The Village Bride, The Twins,_ and _Lop & Ochō_ become a full fledged Anime Series, especially Village Bride.

    While everyone loves the story, the lore and the twists let's mention about the droids that stood out in the short such as the Boatman Droid who took Kara to the Margrave as he was by far the funniest character in the short, and Kara's droid companion, 99-99.
    I definitely would love to have the type of droid that Kara had cause it's design is cute, helps you with your lightsaber training and imagine the merchandise potential of 99-99.

    I love how this episode used the fact that Star Wars often uses visuals to establish intent in order to pull off that big twist. This episode is the epitome of, to quote Obi-Wan, “Be mindful of your thoughts, they betray you”

    It really felt like star wars. I also liked they had more freedom to do things like the lightsaber changing colors because it takes place long after the OT and they aren't limited by the originals timeline events and lore.
    Also , great point noticing than none of them were trained in lightsabers form because they didn't have access to it while Kara seemed to have been trained by her father and the Margrave. Her skills don't come out of nowhere.

    11:15 Seeing the purple lightsaber come into play from the red is a really cool way of showcasing that despite he was a Sith, his loyalties were still to the lightside and that came forward as the fight progressed and he was conflicted about fighting Jedi.

  • @hellowhat890
    @hellowhat890 Před 2 lety

    Fun fact, the idea of lightsabers changing colors depending on who was holding it goes all the way back to the Original Trilogy. When Luke turns himself over to the Empire in Return of the Jedi, the original script actually said that when Vader took and examined Luke's saber, it was supposed to change from green to red in Vader's hands because it could sense it was being held by the Dark side. Of course this was never actually finalized.

    On another note...people seem to keep overlooking the fact that Kara has been raised in the Force since birth. By this age, she's had better training than many Jedi of the "golden age". Even though Juro and her father are likely mostly self-taught, they've both got enough experience that her education in the Force has been remarkably thorough for her age. But, it's just as clear they didn't raise her in the kind of strict environment as most Jedi were. She got to be a proper child in her life, as well.
    .
    She's probably more capable at the tender age of 12, than Luke is at any point in his life. The Force is simply part of who she is. There was never a time of her life when the Force wasn't a known part of it...but it never came at the expense of who she is as a person, like it typically does for others.
    .
    One of the things they do in this episode is to give tons of indications that Juro is "evil", and everyone gobbled them up. But everyone completely overlooked the hints that it was not what it seemed. For example, Zhima and Kara have known Juro for a very long time. Kara says he's been in her life since she was a baby...and it's a reasonable supposition that Zhima knew him years prior to that. Both of them very clearly have absolutely no fear of him at all, and just as clearly are devoted to what they sincerely believe is his cause. Everybody watching instead latched onto the appearances, and ignored the logical clues to the contrary. Everyone was so fixated on what they expected, that they ignored what they were shown.
    .
    Interesting lesson that Production IG seems to have slipped into their work.

      @EskChan19 Před 2 lety

      Her father says at the beginning that she doesn't have a connection to the force so she would have not been raised in the force since birth. That#s why her lightsaber had no color at first because she simply wasn't connected to the force strong enough for the crystal to have an alignment. She gains that over time. You see the lightsaber starting to glow faintly green when she fights the speeder and then it finally turns green for real during the sith battle.
      But she did most likely train with the lightsaber and that would still make sense. It's important to keep in mind that while having the force definitely helps, it's not required to being able to wield a lightsaber. So even without being connected to the force she could have very well be trained to wield a lightsaber.

    Ethan was definitely a padawan without a master as he stood around while Kara took action. But with him now with Juro I can see him grow and become powerful with the force possibly even becoming a Jedi like in a later episode (no spoilers)

    I think the blast of the furnace at the beginning of the episode was meant to be more flash than bang. It didn't carry a lot of power, it was just like when you pop a balloon filled with methane...but bigger.
    .
    Most forges are bulky because they're heavily insulated...not because they deal with a lot of pressure. Propane forges obviously can explode because propane can explode, but then, that's also a pressurized tank.

    I binged watched the entire set of episodes starting at 2 a.m. the moment they were released and The Ninth Jedi was absolutely my favorite. It's been a fun treat for me to watch reactors when they get to this episode. Particularly at the beginning because it's been a common theme for people to go "oh it's a trap!" and I get to think to myself "yes, it is, but not in the way you expect..." From what I've seen, the reception has been overwhelmingly positive for this episode and if this was also meant as a kind of test bed for possible new shows, this one wins out for sure.

    The rest of the shorts were all stylized a bit, or a LOT, depending on which one. However, this was the lone episode that was fully believable as a Star Wars story. The only clearly Japanese inserted bit may be the costumes, and even then its just a minor part of the show. Its Star Wars.

    Definitely one of the best episodes of Visions. And also one of the most Star Wars-ey. A lot of the others are still fun but they don't really feel like they would fit into Star Wars. This one really feels like it could just be a canon Star Wars Episode of far far into the future or even in KOTOR 2 times.

    I would love to see this episode expanded into a movie. Some pretty cool ideas were introduced in this. Her lightsaber reminded me of the Darksaber. The smoking droids reminded me of the alien droids in The Fifth Element. I think I like the music in this episode probably 1 of the best. I like this episode a lot, but for me, I rank the episodes in order from most to least favorite as...8, 7, 5, 1, 9, 3, 6, 4, 2. I could interchange episodes 1 & 9 at any given time. But, no matter which episodes I liked most or least, I would actually love to see ideas from each episode incorporated into the canon universe. I would not even mind seeing an idea from episode 2 incorporated. I'm sure there's gotta be other music in the Star Wars universe for kids to listen to besides Jizz music, right? LOL! I did not absolutely love the next episode, episode 6, but I thought it was cute and charming and also thought it had some interesting ideas. So, yeah, each episode had something new and fun to the Star Wars universe I'd like to see become canon.

    My god... This is the problem with people who talk over important stuff. They LITERALLY say at the beginning of the episode: "KARA DOESN´T HAVE A CONNECTION WITH THE FORCE". You two miss that part, and then spend the whole episode saying "Oh, she´s so strong with the force..." And that ruins EVERYTHING. There´s no surprise when they reveal she is the 9th Jedi, or anything like that :S:S
