Let me toss out my FAVORITE low-key awesome moment of this episode:
When Kara comes in and SEES HIM WITH IT and says: "Hey! You did it! You finished the lightsabers!"
Her dad HANDS her the BLUE ONE in his hand and it turns grey/clear in hers as he gives that explanation... and THEN.... she is staring at its blade and says: "I wonder what color it will be when a real Jedi holds it.....
*The camera cuts back to her dad who is watching over his shoulder and he offers this- knowing smile on the beat of the melody...*
Guys -- she doesn't even realize her Dad is one. Like... it doesn't click with her. It takes a Jedi to make sabers. Her dad blocked that shot with his hand. The Margrave asked her dad to build them cause he knew her dad could do it.
But Kara has romanticized the "jedi" and doesn't see how strong the force is in her own family.... but..... her dad knew all along. And that's *that* look. SO GOOD.

Yeah, that moment was that good stuff. He just low-key throws her that smile like "Yeah, I wonder." And, to then pay that off after she has been seen clearly utilizing the saber at a quite high level, and have hers turn green mid-combat when she gets her little surge of power. That shit was so good. This is by far my favorite episode from Visions. I would love a stand alone of this.

this is definitely my favourite, in spite of white bread Ethan it really did feel like a pilot episode to a series I want more of. I did like the lightsaber trick...did prefer the translucent saber too I thought it was more visually cool, would've actually preferred the Margrave to keep the mask as well. But it was brilliantly paced, the music was really strong and Kara is a really good protagonist in that she wasn't immediately bestowed with power, instead she's been practically raised around Jedi culture by being the saber smith's daughter and cared for by the Margrave. Four-Nines also a great droid design too.
Also appreciate that they made Homen with the purple lightsaber the one most susceptible to darkness as a nod to how Mace Windu utilizes Dark Side techniques in his combat

You guys' reactions are so in line with how in awe I was of this episode. It introduced an almost completely new concept for how a wielder's blade color is determined, and by proxy could open up future projects to a whole array of other colors if they ever pursued a "New age of Jedi" type story line with young blood. Would be an excellent opportunity for them to retcon the old ones and just be like "Well actually, we discovered that the blade color is displayed based on the wielder's intent." Also, old boi turning that saber from red to green with the little halo literally gave me chills. What a scene. What an episode. Easily my favorite out of the run and totally has enough of a foundation for a whole spinoff. Fantastic writing and storytelling.

On one hand, the colour switching allows for incredible reveals like the sith igniting their sabers and Kara’s saber turning green. On the other hand, it only really works because Star Wars morality is so cartoonishly simple to the point you can literally colour code people’s level of goodness

    • @ShadeSlayer1911
      @ShadeSlayer1911 Před 2 lety

I mean, it's not THAT simple, even if it is pretty simple overall. There's grey morality, and those colors reflect those who aren't light or dark side. Purple, yellow, and gray sabers. What would be interesting is how the colors change with someone who is more nuanced, like an anti-hero or anti-villain. It's a simple and neat storytelling device. Imagine seeing new colors and trying to figure out what it means. Imagine a person who has mood swings change saber colors frequently. Maybe there's a personality that gets you invisible blades, which can be a tactical advantage. It could lead to the discovery of force sensitive clones or droids when they grab one of the sabers. There's lots of things you can do with how these particular sabers operate, and it can definitely play on more complex themes.

I believe that this way of doing saber colour. was actually an idea George was playing around with in 6. The scene where vader takes lukes saber when he's caputed on Endor, when he turns it on Lucas was playing with the idea of it being red because vader was touching it. But went the other way. so that's a supper nice nod from this short, shows they genuinely know their star wars deep history.
Though I personally prefer the Kyber Crystal being something that has it's own colour, and chooses you, like it is now. Plus we still get a slight thing of this, in that the only way to get a red blade is to bleed your crystal. so there's kind of an element of the colour reflecting you in both counts.

The crystals already do reflect the user in Disney canon, it's just that it over the course of meditation with the crystal. But in The Ninth Jedi, her father did say all that hammering of the crystal he was doing was him treating it to be more responsive towards the one using it, which I'd guess the skill of being able to do is what sets a Sabersmith apart of just any old Jedi making a lightsaber.
One of the neat things about Visions, is that for all of basically being given a blank check towards not having to adhere to canon, most seemed to of put in effort towards being able to slide right into it easily enough. The only really out there one was The Twins, and even that can largely be explained by a mixture of them being modified in their creation and just how most of that over the top power was just channeling the power of the crystals. The stuff they were doing before that wasn't totally out of line of the kinda things Vader gets up to in the comics.

A lot of the episodes were fun and good, but a lot of them were fun despite feeling more like someone made a cool episode, then slapped on a few lightsabers for the Star Wars paint and that was it, but this really felt like it could have come from the canon.
And it had a lot of cool ideas. And it circumvented a lot of the issues with the more modern Star Wars shows where people wonder how the fuck a total noob who has never had a lightsaber in their life could suddenly beat the best in the galaxy. Here it makes a lot more sense, since the Lightsaber was forgotten so NOONE (except the Margrave) had any training in that.

This episode was so refreshing, we need this type of story make into a trilogy, maybe episodes X, XI and XII could use some of this ideas, the lightsabers changing color to the users force connection is probably the greatest idea a Star Wars show has ever had, and you don't even need to eliminate the secuels as much as I want them Filoni and Favreau do, but they can start the next trilogy so ahead in the future that there's no republic nor empire, nor first order or nothing, just remembrances of old believes, like this. Disney is sitting in a pot of gold with this episode

This episode could easily be the starting point for an animated series or even live action. It seems like it could be set long after the films, centuries or even thousands of years and that easily explains the differences in lightsaber function and how they're made. This is what SW really needs. Jumping into a time period far removed from what we know means you can create your own canon and lore without messing too much with what's been established elsewhere. If Rian had taken his TLJ script, changed all the names, and set it in another time, nobody would've gotten upset.

I don't think they are breathing in space. You see in the movies standing in the docking areas with shields. So it's probably some kind of shield that covers a whole area.

As with most reactors I feel these are getting picked apart BECAUSE they're Star Wars related. Any other anime, no body would care they're in space fighting without helmets. I could be wrong, but a lot of other reactors that do watch anime as well have even admitted as much. Non the less, I still enjoy your videos the most. Always nail it and make me laugh! Keep it up guys

Yeah, a bunch of these felt like pilots for full shows. Especially this one by Production I.G., The Elder by Trigger, and Lop & Ocho by Geno Studio. The Elder was probably the most solid for me.

You could have fleshed this out...have the opening narration be a crawl...and make this a stand-alone movie....like they were planning to do before the sequel trilogy crapped the bed. Or make it a series. It wouldn't be hard at all. There is so much potential in this little short. Felt so much like Star Wars to me...almost more than Mando.

This episode is great for the spectacle, but it is low key one of the best when it comes to story-telling. It was directed by an extremely talented group of people who knew exactly how to make a good story. No jumping the shark, no speeding through the boring parts, nothing. Everything took exactly as much time as it needed and no less.

I love how this also ties into already established canon. Nowadays siths sabers are red because the sith broke and corrupted the crystal making it bleed. So the crystal always were influenced by the user just the old ones with out the fathers modification stayed on their first users impression. Ashokas lightsabers are white because she cleansed and healed a Siths crystal
I to like this change it makes the lightsaber more unique to its user and actually requires some level of force ability to use it

I want this show too! The saber colors are very cool but imo would make weilders’ conflict way more obvious. Like, would it have been good for 4,5,6? Also, Mace Windu and his purple saber got some splainin to do! 😉

The Kieber crystals in current cannon are sentient and do help choose there owner and wielder and color. And the sith bleed the crystal bending it to their will is why it's red. And the reason ashokas are white is because she freed her crystals from a sith thus purifying them
