I was Dave Chapelle‘s liaison at Yoshi‘s jazz club in Oakland California from 2010 until 2012. Not only did I get to meet the brilliant man, but I got to interact with the audience because I would run all the food, bus a lot of tables, and have to deal with little problems. I remember around 2004/2005. We were playing full court basketball and two guys left in the middle of the game talking about “Chappelle Show is on”. They straight up left us there without finishing the game!!! That’s how big and influential this show was.
Great point. When Darrell Hammond impersonated Trump iy was funny. They were just trying to be funny. Even Trump didnt mind. Now with Alec Baldwin you can clearly see they hate him.
Chappelle's Show is my absolute favorite comedy of all time. I laugh just as hard many years and many views later. I couldn't imagine being denied its brilliance had it tried to get off the ground today.
The craziest part of chappelle’s show is that even almost 20 years later how relevant it still is. The sketch about the internet is still relevant today lol. That show has aged so well, it’s timeless.
Chappelle show was extremely racist towards white people. The thing that people don't acknowledge is that black people are extremely verbally racist towards whites while white people are playing nice and get shit for little racist behavior black people do all the time.
Emerald Jaguar I agree it was universal racist but it glamorized the negative behaviors of black culture and made America think it was cool or funny to act that way. Dave himself between skits would be real af but when the skits came on it was a completely different show.
steve donahue stfu Chapelle is liberal too. Most of the greatest entertainers are liberal. It's hard to be a conservative entertainer because conservatives are borderline retarded.
When you are in living situations that are so intense that the common bond of sharing that intensity transcends all other barriers...that's where real honest conversation and respect for all people develops. While in Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, I was with Irish from South Boston, cajuns from Louisiana and blacks from Harlem and we learned about one another because of our common bond of being in a shit show...together. That is what Chapelle achieved on his show. Walking that fine line between gut wrenching honesty and satire...about all of us. He mocked blacks as well as whites...as it should be. None of us has a monopoly on what is right or cool and we all do shit that looks fucked up and funny to other people and Chapelle was a genius at bringing that shit to light, but never in a mean spirited way. Murphy, Lawrence and Rock have done the same.
You know you have something iconic and historic when literally almost all of the comments are quotable lines that people know right away from a show originally aired more than a decade ago and they still have people rolling even though they’ve heard/watched it a ton. Besides those comments almost every other type of comment is trying to get chappelle on JRE lol. 🏆
Black Bush is Funnier today than it was back then. Chappelle and Neal are great man. Imagine being in a room with Chappelle, Neal and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone...
