To be fair, the reason people complain about current content being “cringe”, despite them watching stuff like Fred and Annoying Orange back then is because while those videos are also cringe, you can somewhat tell that the “cringe” content during the early days of CZcams was clearly done for fun and entertainment.
Meanwhile, with something like those Digital Circus and Skibidi Toilet content farms, you can clearly tell that they are doing it purely for monetary gain. They don’t care about trying to make good content, they just care about the money they get from mass-uploading brainrot.

Yeah, the older stuff was certainly less money driven. Only one that I can think that shifted was probably Annoying Orange with it's couple of channels, but that was past the "golden era" for lack of a better term.
That and you can't forget that shows like Fred and Annoying Orange were created by teams of people who had to approve the episodes are safe and have value for children. Shows back then were made with the idea of raising children unlike shows and youtubers nowadays like Teen Titans Go and Lankybox

13:09 The difference between the "slop" back then (like Gmod Idiot Box) and the slop now is that the videos back then weren't trying to shill their own merch or have really vibrant colors to catch the eye of any 3 year old scrolling past or use popular characters in order to try and get accepted by the CZcams Algorithm. And while generally the videos of old may not be as funny as they once were due to people's sense of humor changing over time, the videos now are just awful and will remembered by the kids who watched them as being awful.

I think what makes Max0r's videos more appealing than Lankybox is the fact that at least Max0r's voice is more calming and his editing skills, while overwhelming, doesn't break the boundaries of having high contrasted colors every second, (to an extent at least...), but Lankybox... yeah, it's just sensory overload to the max, high contrasted colors of the rainbow almost every single frame, complete with the obnoxious "youtuber voice" it physically hurts me, as if I'm gonna have an epileptic episode

I watched this while i had a fever and the video clip you showed triggers something in my body, Like it lowers my body system or something, i became more tipsy and i sweat alot more, my headache also got worsen to the point that it became unbearable, I closed the video and suddenly i all of those pain goes away, and even i feel better than last time. that video is like some sort of visual weapon or something.
My 4 year old nephew watched these guys and I shit you not, he told me he’s done watching them because he felt brain rotting, I couldn’t be more proud of him I have hope for these kids
