I recently confronted a long time friend of mine about their behaviour towards me and that I wanted to cut ties with them. I was genuinly afraid that they might spread misinformation about me, so I recorded the conversation for my safety.
Thankfully nothing has really happened and I dont plan on keeping the recording anyway
I still recommend you to keep it honestly, they might try to talk behind your back or trying to defame you later since they might hold a grude, some people may become just extremely petty after some time

I've been through a couple of abusive relationships in the past that made me getting some safety nets like these to calm my mind when I start feeling anxious around someone or feel like I'm being manipulated. I keep copies of my chatlogs and some conversations in a private folder for protection, just in case I need to refreshen my memory or someone tries to twist something to make me the villain.
Once you go through something traumatic like treason from a loved one, you understand the urge to record key conversations.

IMO you can't call it a baby trap unless the guy is actively taking precautions to avoid having a child. As someone that was dealing with an abusive partner in the past, it's the kind of thing I do to protect myself once I start sensing something's fishy. But it always stay hidden to protect myself in case something happens, no need to share that stuff for everyone to see.
