We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for

Wanted to share my canned chicken story. I had never bought canned chicken until 2020 at the start of the pandemic. My mother raised us to keep certain staples on hand but she preferred canned fish like salmon, sardines and herring. So in 2020 I decided to add canned chicken but never used them. Then just about two weeks ago, concerned about the used by date and not wanting to waste them I decided to try my instant pot chicken and rice using the canned chicken. It turned out really good, I was surprised. It has opened up my thinking to try other things. Thank you so much for your videos and the useful information you provide.

I love the tip of how to store flour to keep it safe! Great tip! When I bring flour into my home I always pop it in the freezer for at least 24 hours or until I need to open a new package. This kills the eggs of the mites that are in all grains and keeps them from hatching and making a mini colony in your flour or grain. Hope this helps one of your viewers. ❤

Mary, I still work and am quickly losing my savings because my paycheck and my husband's social security is not enough, especially with $8.00 a gallon for heating oil for where we live (on an island off the coast of Maine). Thankfully we have a woodstove as back up. Food prices are so high and no matter how much I cut back on food I am still spending over budget. Just this week I created a new budget plan for groceries and am hoping to reign in the cost. I do cook and bake from scratch most of the time so that helps. We try hard to not waste food. More tough times ahead, for sure.

I so agree about the spices. I've used up all of my oldest spices of 15 years!!! I used them in pickling. They were absolutely fine & still super fragrant, perhaps the vinegar helped with that? Wow, that's an amazing price on the organic rice & beans. You can't even touch that on Amazon or Walmart for that price.

If you are going to open the maple syrup you can also freeze it to keep it longer if you are not going to use it right away. For the apple cider vinegar, I made some from my kid's apple juice that started to ferment and I threw in some of my apple scraps and it came out awesome.

Thanks for these videos. I like that you talk about ingredients and various ways to use them and encourage flexibility in thinking of how to use them. I've come to a conclusion over the years that too many people have learned to cook using using components and assemble a meal more than cook a meal so once one of those components is gone or gets too expensive they don't know how to adjust things. For so many people cooking involves ingredients have already been processed for them in one way or another. So instead of using veggies from their garden they use salsa, instead of cooking dried beans they buy canned refried beans. Every step of processing adds a middle man that wants their cut of the profits so prices go up and another step where the supply chain can be broken and when that happens it becomes I can't make that dish not how can I make this another way. I like how you think about multiple options for supplies, my garden didn't work, I can buy canned or frozen to fill my pantry. The price of chicken has gone up, but I can use canned chicken and stretch it with beans and other veg for soup. Teaching people flexible thinking where food is concerned is a wonderful thing.

Thanks for another great video, Sweet Mary! Ruta Maya coffee is awesome! They used to do roadshows in Costco where they sampled their coffees. I totally agree...every outfit looks better with dog hair!! With a Vitamix, you can use the regular container to make flours, but it will scratch your container up, and then it can start to absorb odors and flavors from other foods. The dry container lifts and separates (amd it competes withthe highest quality grain mills), the wet container pulls down and compresses. I worked for them for 8 years ;).

Omigoodness Mary! I just got a new dog last week. His name is Charlie. And he is a yellow/white yellow lab/German Shepherd mix. He is huge, and a huge love sponge...wanting to be a lap dog LOL! Your dog so reminds me of him. 💖
The fur is ridiculous, but I will go with your saying that every outfit goes better with dog hair LOL!

A brilliant video again, I'm from the U.K and can't believe how big the products are. Everything looks so massive compared to what is in U.K supermarkets.

Hi Mary! I just love shopping with you! I am in Canada. I will probably go to Costco. They seem to have more options in organic foods. Lot of love!

I don’t have any big box stores here. I refuse to buy from Amazon or Walmart. We don’t even have a Walmart here and TG. I WISH EVERYONE would stop buying from companies that are monopolies. Great video, though. ❤️

I understand completely. I do my best to support local farms, dairies, and ranches but we are having such a terrible drought right now that local foods are in short supply. Even my own garden this summer was basically non-existent so I have to rely on my grocery store and the occasional trip to the big box stores. Love, Mary

@@MarysNest - my garden was also crap this year. It was the soil. I’m composting like a mad woman this year and winter to have enough good soil and I’m not buying any next spring. Back to the basics and good ole days of self reliance. ❤️

Reconsider the convenience of home delivery with Amazon. I find that gas savings and time savings are important to me as I have limited mobility. Besides, if I don't use Amazon I'm shopping at Kroger or publix, both large chain groups.
