      There are lists of foods online arranged by the amount of lactose present. Generally, with cheeses, hard and aged cheeses are zero or low lactose while “fresh” or soft cheeses are high. For other firms of dairy, the higher the fat content, the lower the lactose. For example, heavy cream has much higher fat content than milk so would contain much less lactose. Each person varies so you might want to look for the charts showing lactose amounts in foods and experiment very slowly to see what your tolerance might be. You probably know a few things you can eat with no or few issues so you can use those as a jumping off place.

And yes, aged cheeses have much lower/no lactose so sharp and extra sharp cheeses don’t make my stomach hurt. Parmesans that are aged are great too! My acupuncture gal recommended anything at least 12+ months aged is ok. Hope it helps, just my findings that help me 😊

    With regards to the Kerrygold... often on smaller dairy farms in Ireland they will, if they can, feed the cows silage (preserved grass) during the winter. Cows and cattle are not designed to eat grains and its heartbreaking to see the practice so widespread...

    • @elliemunn165
      @elliemunn165 Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Bluemilk- just wondering if silage is ok and a good “backup” source for the cows or are you saying it’s not a good practice and farmers should NOT use it? Hayage is grass. So it’s good. If you can find Greenfields butter, it’s 100% grassfed since all the cows are fed hayage in the winter. Silage can be all kinds of green matter, not just grasses, and is fermented. However, silage is better than grain by far.

      Kerrygold products use milk from cows that only 90% grass-fed - 10 % - soy, barley and wheat - 3% of that is GMO. Kerrygold was sued for product misinformation and they have removed grass-fed label.

    • @elliemunn165
      @elliemunn165 Před 3 lety

      Hi Green Blood- In one of his many videos somewhere, Bobby mentioned that Kerrygold was actually 80% grass fed, so not even 90%! Apparently there is a new butter brand offered at Costco from New Zealand (and bonus- it’s under the Kirkland brand) that is 100% grass fed so better quality than Kerrygold at a lesser price. I went to our local Costco near Chicago and they didn’t have it yet so I am still waiting…..anyways, Kerrygold still tastes good and is basically very good quality compared to regular butter so I’ll just be patient 🙂

    • @greenblood3708
      @greenblood3708 Před 3 lety

      @@elliemunn165 90% that is official response from Kerrygold. 90% or 80% doesnt make much difference when you consume milk that was produce from GMO feed from cows that sit in barns for months during winter.
      One from New Zealand is 95% not 100%.
      100% grass-fed is somewhat mesleadinding for New Zealand. Dry grass isn't technically grass-fed.
      Winter in new Zealand has freezing months so cows are kept in doors which means they dont have access to fresh grass so they eat supplemental feed
      One that Costco sells doesnt say that cows are not fed GMO which means they probably feed them some GMO soy.

    You didn't mention the Kerry Gold butter rich in beta carotene because it's made from grass fed cows. Also, if you have hunger on a keto diet, you can put a pad of this butter in your coffee in the morning and the cravings will go away. It's the best tasting butter I have ever tried as well.

    One thing to consider is that the amount of olive oil in the container is so much, that you need to figure out if you are using it soon enough before it turns rancid. The smaller Kirkland olive oil would be the way to go if you aren't using it like you're running a restaurant.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson Před 3 lety +5

      Or if you make your own salad dressings... But even if you only used half of the bottle, that would be the same amount of oil as the smaller bottle for $2.50 less. Maybe find a friend and decant half into a bottle for them?

    • @mecmaneen
      @mecmaneen Před 3 lety +5

    Great video! I love Costco and FlavCity. I do stay away from organic milk that is ultra pastuerized because of all the processing. I don't believe Trader Joe's organic milk is ultra pastuerized because I can make yogurt with it. My favorite milk is from local farmers with A2 cows.

    • @itouchten

      @@christopherkilian9763 well, you can use an ultra pastuerized like Fairlane for a cold start yogurt but I use regular grocery store pastuerized homogenized milk. A note on eggs: The terms free-range and pasture raised are not necessarily an indication of quality. I've had eggs labeled pasture raised (Handsome Farms) that were thin-shelled, pale yolk crap and others labeled free range (Nellie's) that were amazing, with thick shells and rich, orange yolks. Unfortunately, the only way to tell is to buy a carton for testing or crack one open in the store.
