Something to keep in mind for freezing and reheating them - The croissants reheat much faster than the meat/eggs (in general only needing a few seconds), so I wonder if reheating them for 45 seconds (like you did with the other ones) would make the bread tough. It just more delicate than Engilsh muffins, so it might be less forgiving in the microwave.

Hey Becky, I haven't used grocery bags for well over a decade so here's how I manage the system. I have 2 large "cold food" bags (look for cold food grocery bag on Amazon) . Then I have somewhere around 30 - 40 cloth and nylon grocery bags. I've collected them over the years, no need to start with that many, I'd say 10-15 is a good start. The main thing to look for when getting these bags is that they are machine washable. Avoid the plastic ones that can't go in the washing machine (trust me on this). The cold food bags don't need to go in the machine, you can turn them inside out and soap and water clean them in the sink and it isn't a big deal because you only have a couple of these and they don't need cleaning often. The regular grocery sacks I wash on a "quick cycle" in the machine probably every other grocery trip.
Next is the produce bags. They are really affordable, like $12 for 15 or so of a variety of sizes. Here's the thing about these, they are mesh and they don't last as long. I sew so sometimes I will reinforce the seams but generally I don't. These are also washable and I toss them in with the grocery bags whenever they need it, which doesn't seem very often. The good news is that since they are mesh, even when they've had their use and split apart, you can still use the mesh around the kitchen for straining things :)
Lastly, I put all the grocery bags and produce bags into one grocery bag (I fold them but that's just me) then I put that bag into one of my cold bags. So all my bags are together in one place, which is inside the cold storage bags. When I go to the market, I grab the 2 cold food bags and I put them on the front seat of my truck with my purse, that way when I get out of the truck and grab my purse... I can't forget the bags. I don't keep my bags in the truck full time because we have high humidity where I live and that can cause the bags to mildew. It was hard to remember them at first but over the years it's just become habit and I can't even remember the last time I forgot my bags.
Anyhow, I hope you find this useful. Plastic bags are just the scourge of the earth, quite literally. I've been a scuba diver for many years and seeing all the plastic that end up at the bottom of the ocean breaks my heart so I just won't use plastic grocery bags. I even keep a small nylon bag (folds into a carry pouch) in my purse for trips into the mini mart :)
It is so easy to NOT use plastic grocery bags, I wish more people would make the effort... yes, this is my soapbox issue :)

Also, when getting gas, lock your door (by hitting the lock handle???) before you get out and then use the door handle to let yourself out on your side (drivers side) so that the passenger door is locked and yours is now unlocked, so no one can drive by and steal your purse from the passenger seat. Becky! I have THE BEST CHICKEN on the grill recipe for you! It's always a hit when we make it for company and they always ask for the recipe. It's super easy too.
    - 8-10 large sweet vadelia onions - Cut THICK slices.
-skin on chicken cuts - we use thighs and breasts with skin. Using skinless is not the best, FYI. we make 12 pcs of. chicken
Lay foil down on the grill, place the thick cut onions down over the foil to fit the whole foil. Lay the chicken on top of the onions
-grill heat should be medium (300 - 325 degrees) not too hot!
-season heavily with whatever seasoning you like. I use S & P, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, all seasoning, paprika...whatever.
grill for about 30-45 mins on one side, flip the chicken, season heavily again and grill for another 30-45 mins or so. Make sure the skin gets nice and crispy. You will be able to eat the onions since they are cut think they won't burn. Place the onion over the chicken when done -- and serve! The chicken gets the flavor from the onions and it's to die for! Enjoy! Tina~

Getting the most liquid out of both will make an amzing Tzatziki. Then sparingly with the garlic, lemon juice, lots of dill, s&p.

I just love watching your content. I really miss having my own garden, but I do have a some very easy, but super delicious and tasty salat recipes for you 😊
    Grape salat:
approx. 200 gram green grapes (cut in half)
celery leaves (2-4 sticks cut in 1/4" pieces)
lettuce (romain, iceberg or whatever is crunchy and fresh - torn or cut in bitesize pieces)
Mix all and make a dressing of creme fraiche w. lots of garlic, parsley, dill, salt and pepper
Another favourite in my home is a watermelon salat:
    lettuce
    ruccula
    watermelon (in bitesize pieces)
white onion (or "sweet onion" - don't know the term in English) or red onion if you can get some that aren't too strong
a dressing made of lemon, tahini, pepper, a little salt and water. Pour the dressing over the salat before serving.
(I always put everything for the dressing in a mason jar and shake well. The dressing are fresh for at least one week if refrigerated)
Enjoy your summer ❤ from Denmark
PS. Please DON'T leave your handbag in the cart while you put groceries in the car. It takes 2 seconds and it's gone.

About the generator--my husband and I just bought that very one at Costco. We have been wanting to get one for the past two years and have been watching the one at Costco for a while. It is now 699 and that is the lowest we have seen it in more than a year, so we bought it. We looked at a couple of other options, but this one is a tri-fuel generator that can run on gas, propane, or natural gas. At first, we thought about a solar generator, but here in Oregon we just don't get enough sun to make it a viable option.

Becky, I have been using the reusable produce bags for years. I have 3 different sizes of mesh bags with drawstring closures that have a bead that secures the top - no more twist ties! I just throw them in the washing machine then air dry them, because they dry so fast at room temperature. When I make my grocery list, I gather the reusable shopping bags and produce bags together, put everything in one shopping bag and clip the list to the bag with a clothespin. When in the store, I use the clothespin to clip the list to the shopping cart, leaving both hands free.

I think you are awesome and you have inspired me to start dehydrating and canning things, make up multiple freezer meals, and trying to preserve any foods we have too much of. I don't grow anything as that is not my thing, but my newest motto is to eat as healthy and fresh as possible, and preserve whatever is about to go bad to reduce waste. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your life with us!
BTW...I LOVE thrifting too and just picked up a BEAST of a dehydrator from FB marketplace for $50. We also have a whole house generator for emergencies which runs on propane 120gallon tank (underground) since we live rural and have lots of power outages from storms. So either you think about it or like me you forget il very very often, but I always have a laundry basket in my trunk to store all my groceries so it’s fine.
in most stores our fruits and vegetables are in bulk and we have to weigh them ourselves. reusable bags for fruits and vegetables are super practical, here we can indicate on the scales what type of bag we use so you don't pay extra weight.

I'm such a wanna be super-organizer. But I had to speak realistically to myself about it. Over the years I've bought things like shoe organizers or multi-type laundry sorters and they barely got used. It became more annoying to have to put them back only to take them off again, and my husband all but refused to get.on board with sorting clothes as we went, rather than just doing it on a day we were actually doing laundry.
Turned out just to not fit our everyday life. But things like the oxo containers, when they're just for me and my desire for uniformity and organization, have worked really well. 💕

When buying a backup generator make sure it's dual fuel. Run it on propane and you wont have issues with the carburetor gumming up or fuel going bad over time. If you have a large propane tank for your house, you can run a propane line for your generator. If needed you can still run on gas in a pinch just by turning a valve.

I’ll absolutely love them, but yes, they are so expensive! I’ve probably had mine for six years and other than some scratching on the outside of the plastic from dishwasher use or metal scraping up against it with a measuring cup, they are holding up well. It's not airtight - it's air resistant, but if you have powder along the rim, it doesn't quite vacuum well. It is not worth the money when there is a bargain brand or two out there that work better (Better Homes & Garden.) The lid is nice because it's 1 handed sort of, I prefer the Progressive or Rubbermaid premium storage containers because they are better seals.

Hi Becky! I know from your videos you like to use ginger but don't enjoy peeling it. If you want to process a bunch of it you can mince it in a blender and pour oil over it and freeze it in small amounts. When you need it you just stick a small amount of the minced ginger in your fridge and you have it fresh for two weeks. You can process pounds of ginger and stick it in the freezer. I love ginger and doing things this way has made it available to me all the time!

Hi Becky! I love all the info you share when you make a video.
In case you didn't know, stores keep track of produce inventory by weight. So, by putting both lemons and limes (or even green and red bell pepper) that have the same price per pound in the same plastic bag, you are messing with their inventory control.
I too have thought about bringing my own reusable produce bags. I plan to use soft tulle that I have many many yards of on a cardboard bolt.
I have just 3 of us at home now and did a Costco run just days before I left alone for a week. I filled my small stand alone freezer with the majority of the Costco food. My husband told me I can no longer purchase bread or produce at Costco because the bread got moldy and the produce went bad. I don't buy their bagged salads unless I'm having a party, and will mix it all at once.

So worth the money and they have them in clear so you can see everything just fine! Organizing my food shelves too but I couldn't justify paying that much for the OXO containers. Those pickles are awesome!!! I always buy their roasted chicken to make my own chicken salad for convenience.

Regarding the shelves for food storage- if they're plywood, you definitely have to consider moisture/what you're storing on them. If you're going to be keeping produce that might leak or get mushy (thinking winter squash, potatoes, etc), they could stain or damage the shelves

We have the exact storage shelves like the ones at Costco… They work great, hold lots of weight and look good too. And on the generator…you should check on the Generac from Home Depot. Ours was well worth the investment. Runs off our propane tank, turns on and off automatically and auto test runs once a month. We can run our 2500sq’ house and a couple out buildings with it. Best money ever spent…

Did you investigate getting the Generac from HD vs a Generac dealer? I've been considering a Generac generator in the last month & would love some first-hand feedback before deciding. Thx!

@@mimiashford5544 … We did look around at other businesses that sold Generacs in our area and HD had the best price. I believe Lowes and Northern Tool sell them as well… Didn’t see any independent dealers though. We paid around $5500 for ours… Concrete pad was $150, electrical $350 and plumbing for propane about $200.00. These prices are from a little over a year ago. Last my husband looked, out of curiosity, the Generac had gone up around $2000.. After the snow storm we had here a few years back, really pushed us into investing in this unit. We had been using a small gas powered unit that would pretty much run only a coffee pot.

@@mimiashford5544 we bought a 20kw Generac from our electric co-op about 8 years ago, it was around $8000 total. The co-op guy talked us into the big one, but I definitely think a smaller one would have served us just as well. My main issue is that it drinks 3 gallons of propane an hour running on full load, 2 gallons at half load. All I can picture while it's running is $ flying out the window.

YES! Get reusable produce bags I. Different sizes. For the weekly grocery trips we always use those and throw in the wash as needed. The only bummer is it can take time to tell the cashier what and how many exactly is in certain bags when they are not big slotted or mesh.

A tip for those wire shelves…throw down either thin plywood sheets cut to size OR those peel and stick tiles. You can get them at the dollar store sometimes

I use the reusable produce bags I keep them inside my grocery bags. I like them. I have a grocery bag that shrinks down into a carrot and I stuff a produce bag inside when it's bundled.

This is so relatable. We are in the middle of our kitchen being renovated so I have no appliances but a fridge!! I have little appliances but you can only do so much with a toaster oven and a microwave. Definitely love your Costco haul. Looks just like mine.

I love to toast croissants and put cream cheese and pepper jelly! Oh so good! I also did BLT's with pepper bacon on croissants! Wow that chicken salad price!! It really shows that cooking at home saves so much money! You could have made that for probably under $5 with your home canned chicken. This is just an affirmation that you are doing the right thing by doing freezer meals and making your own food! Like you said, once in awhile is ok and sometimes needed, but not all the time. You do a great job taking care of your family! Thanks for taking time to share your life with us! I know you are so busy! Go girl go!! Can't wait for the freezer meal video!
