We farmed in Western Canada with a 3588 back in the mid 80`s. A really good tractor for all the reasoned stated by others. It could always pull way above its horsepower rating! Put it in a tractor pull once and nothing could touch it for traction! Great memories. Thanks so much.
In the late 80's I had a choice between one of these or a 4690. My buddy bought the international and loved it. We bought had little problems with bought tractors.
I worked on an 8,400 acre farm in eastern Oregon from 1983 until 1985. They had several 6588s and 6788s. They grew nothing but shell corn at that time. I put a lot of time on a 6788 during the 1985 planting season pulling a 20 foot disc. The tractor was new and very comfortable to drive. Plenty of power, excellent visibility, easy to drive, climate controlled cab, and a good stereo. It didn't get any better!
This video brought back some memories.
Very cool to hear about the farm and 2+2. It’s neat to hear about how these tractors were used when they were new.
@@bigtractorpowerঅংবব, ত,
What i like about this is it's not a museum peace it's a working tractor
I like finding the classic still hard at work.
It's nice to see these modern tractors at work.
It seems strange to me to see tillage done with wheeled tractors. When I was growing up on our farm in the north valley of California in the 1940's and 50's we used only track engines for tillage. I suppose that's in part because we didn't have these powerful wheel tractors available, but I understood it was mainly to avoid compaction of the heavy clay ("adobe") soil we had.
We used International TD-40s, mainly pulling disk harrows and a heavy wooden frame spike tooth harrows, and occasionally a military surplus disk plow. We later got an International TD-18 for heavy work, mainly pulling a ripper to break up "hard pan" that developed after a few years of shallow tillage.
I worked for my neighbor when I was in high school decades ago- 😮. He had this tractor. Loved it!
Very cool. They are one of my favorite tractors.
I really enjoy watching machinery like this in operation. Thanks for posting more content.
Although I'm not a farmer, I live in a farming area. Internationals and Farmalls were plentiful. John Deere's were not.
lol, when I moved up from Sears garden tractors, I bought a red International 682 in the early '80's.
Awesome find...it seems like there are a lot of classic finds, that are actually STILL IN GREAT CONDITION, in WI. When I was a boy my one uncle's family bought this exact model brand new and pulled a 6 btm IH in-furrow plow; I always liked when IH went to red cab and black wheels (really modernized their look)... I was in "hog-heaven" riding with him...Our biggest tractor at that time was a 1086 with 5 btm plow.
Those were the days. Plowing with a new 6588 or 1086 was neat to see. Wisconsin has so many great classics.
@@bigtractorpoweryou said it!
Great video! I have a 6588, I use it to pull a 22’ IH 496 disc, Deere 15’ 750 drill, a Howard Paraplow, and this fall it is working for my neighbor pulling their grain cart.
You have one of the cool tractors on here Big Tractor Power. I always liked the IH 2+2 tractors especially when working.
My dad's uncle had one too these. I was 8 years old and I called it big red. I was happy to see this on your channel. Brought me back to my child hood memories from summer farm life out in SD. Great videos!!
@mksmwet1, where at in South Dakota?
I always love to see a 2+2 at work😁👍 this is a nice looking tractor😃👍
i put alot of hours in one of them in the early 90s that chisel plow is also doing a amazing job
Another snoopy video...
Excellent 👍👍👍
Go snoopy 😁👍
I could watch those all day!
They are cool tractors.
It wasn't mentioned here, but it was a tractor you could set up tread width for 30" rows and it would turn amazing...................not something others from any other maker could do. I liked the concept but there was not any around me, ended up buying a 6588 out of IA that needed work to see. The turning, ride, and low noise levels are awesome, and they can really put the power to the ground with the weight distribution and about float on mud. Would love to harvest processing tomatoes with one in mud, would think it would be a heck of a outfit.
Those 2+2 tractors were such a unique idea that had a lot of potential. I hate that the Case management killed the 7288/7488 models after the merger.
I’d definitely love to get a chance to drive one someday.

Yeah, just when they had finally ditched the TA and had a front axle worth a crap
We got a 6588 w 1800 hours and 6788 2200 hours we baby them and they just plant wheat or beans only put 20 to 30 hours on them a year im obessed with them and will always take care of them
❤😊 SNOOPY TRACTORS HAVE THEY'RE PLACE AND DO IT WELL❤😊
Great vídeo Jason.
Thank you for watching.
I've always liked the 2+2's. First one I've seen not have duals on the front. But still very cool. GO BTP 💪.
I think I read once that front duals weren’t recommended
Many farms have put front duals are their 2+2. It was not recommend by IH until the Super 70’s. Where I grew up in western New York state these were very popular tractors on dairy farms. All of them were on singles.
I have had a fascination with the 2+2 tractors for many years now. I think they are just plain neat old tractors. I sometimes wonder how they'd sell in today's world/market seeing as most farms run at least MFWD machines now.
Case IH developed a 2+2 Magnum
Based on the 7140. It was called the MXU. Interestingly todays Magnums are longer in size than a 2+2.
@@bigtractorpower I read about that CaseIH Magnum 2+2. That setup honestly would work today, just have a transfer case and the articulating section in front of the cab. Would turn tighter too.
It's so funny i work on a family friend in Eastern Oregon and he is a john deere fan but his dad has a international and he asked me what tractor i loved to drive in beet and onion harvest, i had to say that good old international tractor!!! Lol
I don't have tractor, but I love to watch your perform.
Thank you for watching. I am not farmer but I enjoy filming and sharing them.
THE FIAT TRACTOR IS THE ONE SOME TRACTOR TO PULL.
I have driving a 2+2 on my bucket list. Prefer John Deere, but there is something intriguing about the 2+2
I’m with ya! 2+2 is on my bucket list! I have admired these tractors since I was a kid and they were new. I’ve never even got to sit in one but SOMEDAY I want to drive one and hopefully, work a field with one.
Rode in one dad drove for the neighbor in my single digit years. Loved that long nose swinging out there. Last year a 3788 went from bucket list to family addition. Hopefully I hook one of the kids on the snoopy. It makes me feel like one every time I fire it up. Near Topeka if another kid at heart wants to burn a gallon or two, hahaha!
Nice to see ive always liked the look of the ant eater.
👍👍👍👍
He got his moneys worth with that tractor, just think what it would cost to replace in this economy.
Modern day is would be $400K and up.
@@bigtractorpoweryou got that right.
@@bigtractorpowermy family and me went to the Sunbelt Ag Expo last week in Moultrie, GA and saw a John Deere 8R 410 and the list price was about $420,000. That’s a lot of money.
Thanks for sharing the video Jason. A Buddy of mine his Dad had a 3588 and a 6588 when he was farming and they were good tractors and he pulled some big equipment with them versus our 2 wheel drive tractors. When you see them working today they are pulling some big stuff. I'll always be an IH man with John Deere being my second choice.
Awesome to have had a 3588 and 6588 pair. The 2+2 is one of my favorite tractors.
Uglies tractors ever made. They were unique and nothing else.
I always had a love for the 2+2. Grandad only had one old International and a variety of other brands including a 4wd Oliver 1800 that did all the tillage work. Great video 🚜🚜
Old Iron. More Up Time In The Field And Less Time With The Maintenance Tech....
Nice 🚜
Sweet tractor! I always preferred the 60 series over the 30 series 2+2 being that they had the electric TA which worked much better.
The is a detail I did not know. Thank you for sharing.
The T/A worked? Must have never been used.
The key to a working TA is keeping them adjusted and using them the right way. The electric TA helped in that way.
Never seen one of those before. Awesome
Glad to share this IH history.
Traktori IHC sadašnji CASE za sva vremena pogotovo 2+2 od1980 sam vozio 3588 180hp nezna za opadanje broja obrtaja.Odlični.
O how I miss driving the 2+2
They are cool tractors.
Love those old IH tractors. Internationals are all we've ever had around here. I have never driven a 2+2 but I always thought it was a good design. Sad that Case killed the 2+2 and the 88 series because they were probably better tractors than what Case had to offer. I figure they only keep the IH and red paint because there were a ton of loyal IH folks. I still wish international had had better leadership at the top, the product was second to none.
Love the videos, you should chase down some food plotters. I own a Case IH 55C (only red on my farm) and complete the same operation with a Fred Cain spring loaded cultivator.
Food plotters typically leave their crop in the field through the winter, similar to old time farming.
North Vernon, IN is not that far from Western, KY where most of your videos are shot.
1000% cool!!
1000% 😁👍
love these 2+2's. my grandfather worked at there factory here in canada and my mom has always loved IH. i need to find a Snoopy to buy for the farm
Did your dad work at the Hamilton plant where the grain drill were built? 2+2 tractors are one of my favorite tractors.
@@bigtractorpower yes he did. actually for about 2 years my grandfather and father did. 2+2 tractors were definitely ahead of there time. but IH always seemed to slightly be. One thing I can add about working for IH and after Tenneco took them over from the merger. Not sure if it was ever said, the family environment working at that plant was second to none from what my family has told me as I got older. Always took care of there workers and there families.
Such a unique model.
They are unique.
Amazing video 👍
Thank you for watching.
Great video👍
Thank you for watching.
Супер😅😊❤
We have an IH 1086 that pulls a 6 row 7000 planter for corn and beans, 11 coulter 1000 gallon sidedress bar, a 15ft Marliss drill for rye and spreads fertilizer. IH 1456 that runs an 18ft disk and 8ft bushog.
Very nice IH tractors. Thank you for sharing.
we have a 2+2 and its a good tractor👍
Very cool. What model?
3588@@bigtractorpower
big tractor power is the best
We used to have some really Old Farmal Tractors, but Nothing like that. I think We had a Cub FarmAl
Nice classics
No we have jd tractor s we did have an international dealer 10 minutes from farm there was 1 or 2 of those tractors in the area good job
Thank you for watching. Going to the IH and JD dealer we’re my favorite thing to do when I was a kid.
We had one of these on our farm. Here on the west coast these were called an ant eaters because of their long nose.
Very cool. I grew in New York and we called them ant eaters too. In England they call them snoopy.
👌
I have a Farmall H, and I use it to pull a 30ft chisel plow.
That’s allot of pull.
@@bigtractorpower it pulls it well, around the driveway, up, and down the road, it makes my neighbors give me that million mile stair.
Why doesn't he run at an angle to the rows?
Probably because it's his field, and he can do it however he wants.
Doesn't want to go to the head bangers ball.
Id be keen to look in the drive line to see how they did it
Development of the 2+2 began in the early 1970’s by combine two 1066 tractors.
👍👍
Thank you James.
👏👏👍👍🚜🚜👌👌
It's hard to believe that these are considered to be old tractors.
I remember seeing a 6588 new on my local dealer Rochester Tractors lot. It’s hard to imagine it was just over 40 years ago now. The Farmall M was just a little older than that in the 1980’s.
Little under powered for that ripper.
Is there a downside to this concept that it never became popular?
If you like to read about tractors, check out Lee Klancher’s book Red 4wd tractors and there is a great article in it about the IH 2+2 tractors. Lot of the people who sold them told farmers it would work like those large articulated 4wd tractors and lot of those tractors ended up being junked. It was really for row crop operations instead of being like a Big Bud or Steiger tractors. That design probably would be a great seller today if CaseIH or Deere or New Holland had it.
It was red.
When these were made they were meant more for row crop work like planting or seeding instead of heavy tillage like the big buds and Steigers and didn't have the horsepower for heavy tillage also mfwd was still in its infancy where most row crop tractors were still 2 wheel drive instead of 4 plus people thought the longer nose would increase turn radius instead of decreasing it
@@spike3082it wasn’t about the horsepower as much as weak components
@@nellsonstout7001 true
Why is the nose so long?
It articulates in front of the cab instead of behind
We using a 6588 and got a whole 66 & 50 series and 4WD 4100 4166 4366 4586 4786
Wow what a line up. I would like to hear more about them. Please send me an email to toytractortimes@gmail.com
Sam Taylor tractor you tube 3588
The 3588 is one of the greats 👍👍
Junk
Why?
😂😂😂
I wonder why no other company used that design
