    An excellent video! The 7288 and 7488 tractors were classic tractors. The owner of this one takes excellent care of his machine. I still run a 1586 IH bought new in 1980. Still pulls a 7 btm plow, 28' 496 disc, 32' 4800 field cultivator, 27' 5700 chisel and other implements. Runs with a 7130 Magnum. Prefer the older IH equipment!

    Lovely seeing these historical machines run, while this one still has a modern look up until today :).
    We run 2 old international harvester Vineyard tractors, and a international 956XL (european model).
    The vineyard models are a 1967 International 423V and a 1975 international 633SA.
    Both of the vineyard tractors run alot of hours every year due to them being so convenient.
    The 423 is used for forklift work in the orchard, which is quite a few hundreds of hours every year.
    the 533 does alot of ground work, mowing and shredding treebranches.

    Our big horse is a model year 2000 MX270. We had to go through the transmission last year due to a park check valve failure. Looking through the transmission parts book the design of the STS and the 18 speed in the Magnums are a lot the same, they just put power shift features in that STS transmission. That design sure stood the test of time.

    Back in the early 80s IH, after losing millions of formerly loyal Red tractor devotees to the Green Revolution, IH spent millions updating their tractor program. The finally realized those generational F 20 and Farmall M costumers weren’t following along as they had for decades and vastly stepped up their game. The 88 series tractors were the product. They had finally been able to stand toe to toe with JD and really had something to offer to the tractor market. But, like the country music song they were “Just a LittleTo Late”. Production agriculture was now in the very real depression era that non-farmers didn’t even know existed. The 80s brought about a time when farmers were just trying to hold on and not buying! And they weren’t buying new machinery for sure! But as far as concerned at the top of the list that farmers weren’t buying was the very innovative intermediate sized articulated 2+2 IH 88 aeries tractors! Then along comes -opportunist JI Case who’d been making their big bucks with light industrial equipment, not farm equipment, in to swoop in and scoop up the remains of International Harvester. And then, to show the outdated mentality around JICase, why all their farm tractors weren’t selling 😮all Case could think about was to repaint all their not selling Case Farm tractor inventory red so as to cash on on their buy out of long standing agricultural products producer’s innovative line of farm tractors. The very innovative 88 series of tractor innovation was trashed and I’d bet JI Case didn’t have presence of thought to even realize what they’d passed up.

    My grandfather used a 1984 IH 6588 on his 400 acre farm in Mid Michigan through the 1990s as a primary tillage tractor. Tractor had the same front grill at the Super 70s! Tractor was sold in 2008 to a local farmer that farm 12,000 acres. I still see that tractor today and wish my grandfather never sold it after getting out of farming. The same local farmer also owns IH 3388. Tractor was originally bought in northern Ohio from original owner that also had an identical twin tractor also for sale that was selling that one too.

I could watch this thing till for an hour with no problem. BTP, the title says chisel plowing, but is that implement considered a disk chisel or a disk ripper? Looked more like a disk ripper to me with the design of the shanks and how deep it was running. I know a lot of rippers have even heavier shanks but in some of my older JD brochures, their disk rippers have the same style shanks as this one, which is why I asked. This was one of the most enjoyable videos (for me personally) you have put out in a long time.👍👍👍

      A 2+2 was built for tillage but to run a plow or chisel plow to match a high horse power row crop tractor in the 130 to 180 hp range. A 2+2 was not built to run like 250 to 325 hp 4wd of the day. The Super 70s were beefed up to run harder on tillage as they were the highest horse power tractors from IH in 1985.

    • @jeffekkel5870
      @jeffekkel5870 Před rokem +7

      The front axle being built to light was the main issue but when turning sharp with front duels you have to be careful that front and rear tires didn't come into contact.

      @@billsauberlich7337 see even though it’s a $100,000 plus collector tractor, I believe that it doesn’t hurt to work it PROVIDED that it’s not being overworked. It’s absolutely being overworked here.

      @@nellsonstout7001 haha have a 5488 mfd that has been overworked for 8800 hrs and still pulls the chisel plow if its needed too. Overworked is just work needing to get done. These almost 40 year old beast have proven they are built for it.

      It has been well taken care of. This 7288 is used on the farm by one of the founders of the Half Century of Progress Show.
