- Hello there! Today I took a quick break from my reviews to show you all of the components to my 501st Legion Approved Darth Vader costume. This costume is based off of the suit we see Vader wear in A New Hope. This suit took me approximately a year to complete after I started sourcing parts!

That is probably the best Vader voice changer setup I have heard. You actually sound somewhat like James Earl Jones especially compared to some of the other ones I've heard
Thank you! Still working on it. It’s such a challenge because JEJ has such an iconic voice. It’s almost impossible to perfectly recreate.

Very nice, compared to most people posting videos of this costume this one is one of my favourites. The helmet is low dropping close to the shoulders which is screen accurate and has that rogue one vibe.

ZIPPING UP and down can be simple--- take a small end of a paperclip- and make a small HOOK- put a 3 ft. string on it.. when you put the suit on-- put the hook in the zipper- and throw the string over your shoulder- and PULL--- same with taking it off.. QUICK and easy...(remove string when done)

Fr same happened to me today
Amazing costume. Stunning.
You've got to spend a lot of time in that suit to climatize. General normal movement at first seems awkward people move like it's all going to fall off them. LOL
Before I got the full Vader I bought a leather jump suit and a cheaper variant of the chest plate/helmet and spent every waking day in them during my free times. Doing every thing from reading to going to the bathroom in order to completely loosen up and get use to the suit/movement.
There are 4 reasons Vader is a difficult cos/armor.
1 - The body heat, no ones gone the extra mile to implement Vaders mid back box under the cape & Cloak as a AC/power unit. There are multiple ways to do this.
2 - The Chest plate makes it incredibly difficult even fitted to lift your arms above your head or cross over left or right with 2 armed swings. As well as the extra width is a awkward adjustment.
3 - The cape will cause you to stumble and gets stuck on every thing, usually the first piece to usually need replaced is the cape due to tearing.
4 - The helmet/Mask is where the claustrophobia really kicks in, you're trapped separated from the world and it's extremely hard to get use to cut down vision (possibly red filtered) and the darker the scene the more you can have accidents LOL.
5 - A LOOSE FITTING leather is a serious problem. The most common problem have with vader is that few are as built as he is, the loosened fitting causes catching in a lot of places. Often @ bad times.
6 - Getting use to the weight - you'll be wearing about 25 lbs + Minimum for a authentic screen accurate vader, the helemt can weight up to 10 lbs!!! Depending on which one it is.
7 - If you're wearing screen accurate boots, they jack you up 2 inches at the heel, and then inside another 1.5 inches pitching you forward like a high heel. However only 2 variations have this accuracy/variation. (it's also described in the books and is a really interesting detail to see worked in.
I'm 6",2.5 - 210 LB's naked LOL, with the suit I'm 6",8 253 LB's with the boots/helmet & all other gear.
Practice practice practice with that saber in the helm/chest is a good place to start when getting use to him.
Thats really interesting! In universe vader also suffered the things such as claustrophobia and being unable to lift his arms above his shoulders so it seems your costume is spot on

Need, need a cooling garment underneath. After donning a Rubies version (which for the initial asking price was pretty much worth it) nearly passed out from the heat generated by so many layers plus non-vented helmet. It would be moderately comfortable if outside in 40 degree weather. Don't know how the original actors withstood the high temps especially under set lighting. All repro helmets need cooling fans.
For regulating body temp, was thinking of something similar to the cooling undergarment worn by Apollo astronauts - pliable tubing through which water is routed to/from a heat exchanger via pump.
Would be interesting to design something similar with possible peltier cooling, powered by small rechargeable batteries.

WHAT- no LIFT in the shoes???? :) BEAUTIFUL suit-- I'd love to have one--- once I get rid of the rest of my fat.. AND I think I'd have a VOICE changer made to go in the mask that is programmed with AI to change it to VADER's sound.. With the small size of USB devices the program can fit on one and the device is mostly a small mike- a speaker in the helmet- and a small wire...

6’2” out of costume. 6’1” should be plenty tall especially if you use lifts

Hey dude, nice costume! can you answer me where you bought the armor piece? i got one myself, but its a bad one, the píeces thats supposed to be at the shoulders kinda just hang down, so the armor doesnt really give that wide frame illusion. i know its an old video, but if you see this, plz answer ty:)
I got mine for a decent price on eBay, but Korbanth made them I believe. I had to prop the shoulders up with some wire to keep them a bit more rigid. I’m not as built as David Prowse was so it helps widen the torso a bit.

Titus Napoleon I would recommend joining the SLD forum with the 501st legion. Even if you don’t build a costume that is 501st approved, you’ll still have access to all the vendors, assembly tips, and more!

Heavy duty velcro! Stuck it right on the back of the Multistomp and back of the belt. Works like a charm.

It’s a ZOOM Multistomp guitar pedal! You just tinker with the settings until you find something that works for Vader. I’m still tinkering mine a bit.

2:17 Why are you putting the shoulders under the coat?
The armor goes under the inner robe in A New Hope and Rogue One. Empire is the first time we see Vader with his armor over the inner robe.

Anyway it still looks like a very unpractical way to use/wear it. In a battle it would be constantly sliding down your arms.

It’s the bodysuit. Its the part where you see the infamous black pinstripes on Vader.

how much did the costume cost and do they ship it to norway?
It’s hard to say for sure because I’ve spent a lot of money upgrading it. All of the parts come from different vendors-it’s not a complete costume. I had to assemble it all myself. I know for sure you’d be able to get the helmet and the bodysuit shipped to Norway. You’d have to reach out to other vendors individually to inquire about worldwide shipping. Hope this helps!

Coby Jacela thanks for the compliment! It was about $5000 USD built over the course of a year or so. It’s hard to put the suit on by myself which is why some things are a bit crooked or out of sorts!

5:45 actually vader had multiple sabers before making the one he had in the films.
Yep, good point, and it changed in each episode too! His lightsaber was different in Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One, A New Hope, Empire, and ROTJ. I was just stating the fact that there’s a new lightsaber that was constructed since Obi-Wan took his on Mustafar.
