Managing histamine intolerance

  • Histamine intolerance (which can easily be mistaken for an IgE reaction) results from the imbalance of accumulated histamine and the capacity for histamine degradation. Symptoms of histamine intolerance are diverse in nature because histamine exerts its numerous biological reactions via 4 receptors, located on target cells in various tissues, with the severity of symptoms dependent on circulating histamine levels. The signs and symptoms of histamine intolerance can often be misinterpreted or simply go undetected in many individuals.
In this hour-long webinar, Dr Nina Bailey covers:
    · The biological roles of histamine and how/why histamine intolerance arises
    · The signs and symptoms of histamine intolerance
    · High histamine foods/histamine liberators
    · Factors that can contribute to or exacerbate histamine intolerance
    · How to optimise your diet to reduce histamine reactions
    · Supporting nutrients/supplements for those with histamine intolerance

I'm literally just finding out that perhaps all my diagnosis surrounding allergies could be a lie and that in fact (all) I have is Histamine Intolerance!! Since finding out about this, everything is making sense. Like every thing down to smallest weird symptom I get that nobody can explain. It will pop up out of nowhere and go again. So I'm watching tonnes of videos now to help me heal from this !!! 10 years of food I tolerances and allergies, I'm sooo done with it!

I've been developing extreme itching for the past 4 years it's been driving me nuts! I started taking some antihistamines the other day and I noticed a difference, I'm having a severe attack right now but I think it may be on to something with this histamine intolerance
Update: took my first maintenance dose of dupixent the other day so I'm almost 3 weeks into treating with the Dupixent and it seems to be working.

Same. I have the extreme itching as well, that a lot of times gives me insomnia, because it's like I'm getting attacked by misquotes...@@SailingSarah I've found out I have an overgrowth of citrobacter, causing my histamine intolerance, which is a dysbiotic bacteria that releases histamine. Something that's helped me is taking a couple DAO, and seriously lowering histamine foods. Other than that, I'm at a loss

Welp, I am finding that Histamine intolerance symptoms are parallel with years of issues I’ve confronted. As I am still learning what diet specifics to change I am finding great relief from adhering to a one meal a day / 4 hour window for eating in the late afternoon, early evening & avoiding obvious triggers such as alcohol. Hope this helps someone else… as the gut seems central to this issue, giving yourself an extra long digestive cycle seems to be very healing. Take care out there 🌠

I think there is a genetic component to my HI as my brother and sister have "allergies and psych issues" as did my father and grandmother.
Thank you for this incredibly insightful lecture Dr. Bailey 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I was just in the hospital for what I thought was a cardiac issue. I have ALLLLLLL the symptoms for HI, have had them for years, exacerbated by monthly cycle.
All the no no foods are in my daily diet.
So now I know what I need to do to fix myself 💯

Nice presentation... I'll add that in my opinion the stress link is really important - particularly chronic. Crh initiates the cascade that ends in cortisol release, but there is evidence it also directly stimulates mast cells to release histamine. The key for me is that cortisol is supposed to turn off crh through negative feedback, but in cases of chronic cortisol release the hypothalamus may become resistant to cortisol, meaning no off switch. Evidence suggests Phosphatidylserine re-sensitises the hypothalamus, and therefore may be a key histamine normalising intervention - as well as of course examining causes of chronic stress and meditatiing.

What products will slow down vs increase histamine release is 100% individualized to each patient. There will NEVER be ANY treatment that works for EVERYONE with these issues because histamine is so involved in fear conditioning. If someone has a stressful experience in any way involving a supplement or medication, it will make them sicker. Lived experience matters so much more than chemical makeup of substance. Probiotics are notoriously hit or miss and if you are a desperate patient PLEASE do not get your hopes up. The number one key to managing histamine intolerance is correcting longterm mineral deficiencies, especially magnesium deficiency--something medicine is ENTIRELY OBLIVIOUS regarding. They ALWAYS incorrectly diagnose magnesium deficiency as calcium or vitD deficiency and make the problem worse.

My 4yr son i believe has definitely a hystimine intolerance he has recently been diagnosed with nutropenia dont know if that has to do with the other they diagnosed him with that because he got sick for the first time at one really bad and blood test came back with certain type in his white blood that was specifically normal seeing in leukemia patients. They also were able to see he had bad virus in his blood witch i accually thought you cant test for that. That night in hospital witch we though was gonna be a week hospital stay and he ended up breaking up fever that night. They were kinda clueless and numbers was still downbit fever broke so instead of being in hospital witch was worse for him because of catching and thing else because when we went to hospital he was in seprating waiting room and emergency room they said to keep him comfortable at home keep him basically in bubble cause he is very compermised from immune system was so low it was dangerously deathly. I have never prayed so hard cause it was life and death but also to come back immediately! So that was the incidences that happen at age one and dont know if it has to do with whata his problem now and i have a feeling i jas tp do with hia hystimines but kind and how would i treat it? Ok so the next thing that happened to my 4yr old son was at the beginning of turning 3yrs old he got a rash red bumps onthe back of his lower legs and back of arms and resembled chix pox had zoom metting with doctor and he perscribed hydrocortisone cream witch hardly touched the rash and he said looked like pox but didnt believe he had it and i dont think he didnt have by now either having this rash as long as he did in the course of a year. Tge only thing that i can find out about this rash cause he had no other sytoms from this. I started to see more and more this rash was not faded and triggered by the heat the temperature raising in his body. My mom saw this old remidy to dab applecider vinigar over all bumps of rash. This girl on the video my mom said the certain chemical that his hystimines give off when he sweats he is allergic to so the viniger kills it off. It get upsetting puting this on him because it burns a lil bit but for only a second and not to bad. I was also worried after applying all over body cause it looked way worse putting all ove body more than ever turnong bright red bumps and a lil burning and this lady said went i went back and watch video again that it will look a lot worst after applying cause it kills that chemical so its accually doing job and in the morning you could still see has rash but much faded almost gone. Now at this very moment i still apply litterally the only thing that helps but still doesnt answer fully. Please any adcice helps im out of answers and have more questions than answers! Any advice is appreciated as to if im even on the right track?!

Thanks for all the clear explanations! Very useful! I have a question: if histamine in the food can cause reactions in the guts, such as contractions and diarrhea, when we think about someone that is allergic to a specific food which is not particularly full of histamine, can the consequent histamine release, origined in the body by this food, cause sudden problems in the guts, as the ones described in this lesson? Thank you in advance.

Look for a functional medicine health trained chiropractor. The core problem may be neurological. Had sibo, libo, disbiosis, leaky gut, ileocecal valve dysfunction, gallstones, histamine intolerance and traced it back to vagus nerve damage when I was a toddler. Mother used shaking to discipline us causing whiplash. At 70 am in process of healing all using supplements, chiropractic adjustments , quantum neurology, red light therapy, carnivore diet, and energy healing. It's a 6 month protocol and am only in 2nd month, but the swelling in my gut is down, body aches and pain gone, sleeping great!, not stuck in sympathetic fight or flight mode, have way more energy and so much more. I connected the runny nose and insomnia and started researching how the 2 could be connected. It lead me to a possible histamine intolerance. The doctors here don't care why anyone is sick, they just push pills, so I have had to figure it out on my own. Anyhow, my progesterone is seriously low and I am under a significant amount of stress. I really think this could be my problem. Looking back at health issues in my past it really looks like it. I have been on a histamine restricted diet (which is a horrid pain in the backside!!!) and have been taking DAO along with other things. It has been 2 weeks. @@brendabrenner2891 I was checked for celiac years ago, negative though. I still get sinus infections and skin issues to this day but not as bad. I now try to eat only organic fruits and vegetables, make bread and any baked goods from scratch with the least processed ingredients possibles, and meats with no flavourings etc. Has made a difference especially eating long fermented sourdough products. I also find my issues are mostly environmental, I’m now married and my husband has asthma as well as one of our cats and we all get affected at the same time. Carpet and newer upholstery seems to be a big culprit (probably due to off-gassing). I’m no longer on most of my meds though except for hypertension and antihistamine.

@@lisa8203 it’s the blood test used to identity which antibodies are detected go specific allergens. It’s not the best and only detects some things. I ended up only getting a mild reaction to mold and moderate reaction to dust but I’d say it’s more likely higher than that.

A food allergie or intollerance? How about if I eat anything other than meat? Even salmon bites me back. Eggs don't like me either. Vegetables haven't been touched in over thirty years as they nearly crippled my mind and body. But six years ago I developed urticuria and noting, not even antihistamines help. Just trying to eat something else is always a bloody disaster and it's not my imaginaton.
While I can and do consume cream in coffee and manage to get away with it, I can eat butter, pure butter and lard. I cannot, consume milk, or other milk products. They severely restrict movement in my legs, pain is an understatement.
While I can avoid all other things, I still have a hell of problem with Urticaria. For some reason the slightest thing brins it up.

I am confused on why would an allergist immunologist give you antihistamines if they will cause more harm? Also I used to drink live culture probiotics daily with every meal. I never ever got better, worse part about it is that I was drinking a very expensive probiotics witch are very good because they helped many people but my self. I tried others and the same.

Someone please give me advice, i am 27 and I have struggled with high levels of histamine since primary school. When I started college the GP gave anti histamine tablets to cope but I realised my symptoms got worse when ever I stopped taking the tablets. I took the tablets every day for 7 years. 2 years ago In 2018 I forced myself to come off them and took an allergy test. After the allergy test I cut out the foods I am intolerant to, which includes gluten and diary. But one year later (last year) I saw I have a long way to go with my healing journey and there’s still more to do because I have so much toxins and chronic symptoms. so I took a gut test and found out I have Candida. I am still fighting Candida and understanding foods that are high in histamine, I am still struggling And working so hard to eat healthy and taking lots of supplements, has anyone got advice? I feel so alone. I am looking to do a histamine Blood test after the virus to see how much histamine I have

Dr Peter Osborne on CZcams. His book is very good too. No Grain No Pain. Gluten is hidden everywhere. May be in your supplements. He clarifies so well.
Food sensitivity test helped me so much. I was eating the wrong foods even though they seemed healthy I was allergic or intolerant. I took 14 days of Diflucan from FMD to get started killing Candida. It is a long process. Don’t give up. It will take time but the proper diet for you is key. Eliminating toxic foods. Gluten and Eggs and dairy and sugar are the main ones. Iam not a professional but I don’t mind sharing anything I have done. I am about 5 years into the process but I am almost there now. Glad to let you know you are not alone.

      @kwizz9664 Před 4 lety +4

      Yes. For sure.
When I reduce histamine intake, my eczema gets better, within 24 hrs.
It’s not related to vegetarian vs animal based foods, since there are high histamine sources in each category. Food in general accumulates histamines as it gets more ripe and ages. Food putrefying in your gut accumulates histamine and will flare symptoms. Solution for symptoms: eat a low histamine diet (and carefully study their sources), take digestive enzymes before heavier meals, heal your gut (I use glutamine on an empty stomach daily and bifidus strain probiotics), avoid DAO blocking foods, and you may take DAO enzyme with heavier and higher histamine meals. Getting sleep and maintaining fitness also helps.
      Peace!

I was with you all the way up to the sales pitch at the end. Your capsules contain HMPC, soy, maltodextrin and silicon dioxide. Your supplementation can be obtained via other means and you certainly aren't unique in providing omega 3 oils, multivitamins, curcumin so we would rather seek out products with less fillers and binders. I'm sorry, but my bullshit factor definitely went into overdrive at that part and really began to make you seem like every other practitioner out there who just want my £££.

And I do think it's good sign that your immune system works superb. It's up to you the operator to stop bad bois comin into club-you thus anti-histamine diet, only it should be renamed to anti bad bois -- bad foods diet
