This is one of those forgotten classics that I wish more people would be exposed to by reactions. Perhaps then it would get the recognition it deserves. Glad you watched it and enjoyed it.
Best film ever
One of the most underrated movies from Bruce Willis. Never understood why it didn't do better at the box office, the cast is solid, the script really good and Tony Scott as the director.
Worldwide It made 114 million on a 43 million budget. 60 of it was in the US. Also it was a popular rental
@@steelydanlover1972 would’ve done worse as that was the summer of Jurassic park
@@trevorjames4619T2 though
One liner overload in this classic:
"Spilled my warm cup of piss".
"I like ice, leave it the fuck alone."
"We're getting beaten up by the inventor of scrabble".
"I'm gonna need a light".
Is it perfect? No.
Is it entertaining? Hell, yeah.
"Think! What would Joe do? He'd shoot everybody and smoke some cigarettes. I don't have a gun, I can't do that."
I was surprised to learn that this movie was nominated for several Razzies back in the day, because I liked it a lot. It's a good example of all those award ceremonies being nonsense.
Before "Die Hard" turned Bruce Wilis into an action hero, he was a comedic actor, famous for playing a private detective on the sitcom "Moonlighting." He also was in a hilarious romantic comedy called, "Blind Date" with the absolutely gorgeous Kim Bassinger. Highly recommend. If you want to watch a couple more buddy cop movies, you can't go wrong with "Tango and Cash" or "Running Scared" (1986), both have lots of action and comedy (Running Scared has an awesome car chase!).
The Last Boy Scout was written by Shane Black, who was most famous for writing the screenplay for Lethal Weapon in 1987 and appearing as Rick Hawkins in the movie Predator that same year. Following the success of Lethal Weapon, Black was paid a record $1.75 million for the screenplay for The Last Boy Scout, making him the highest paid screenwriter in Hollywood at the time.
However, The Last Boy Scout underperformed at the box office, making nearly $60 million in the USA on a $43 million budget, and another $55 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $114.5 million, which was far below expectations given the star power of Bruce Willis, Damon Wayans, and director Tony Scott. Shane Black wrote two more film scripts for Last Action Hero and The Long Kiss Goodnight, both of which flopped and began the decline of Shane Black's career in Hollywood.
*The Long Kiss Goodnight* was a very entertaining movie, pretty much the same recipe as *The Last Boyscout* come to think of it.
Wow, that's interesting and I'm always like nobody talks about this film even though it has Bruce Willis. Last Action Hero got Arnold, that didn't matter, Long Kiss Goodnight pretty much had the same formula as Die Hard, that didn't matter. You just never know which movies are going to breakthrough and which ones aren't.
all the movies you just mentioned are great entertaining action movies. sometimes, we movie watchers are just stupid :P
Decline of his career? I was going to point out it was a Shane Black, too, but this comment does so well. Except, he went on from being a successful writer to start also directing with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", which I love, went on to do one of the Iron Mans, the new predator, and a few other things. I think he's doing all right for himself.
@@richiecabral3602 Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang came out a decade after The Long Kiss Goodnight, so his career had stalled. Also, Iron Man 3 and that Predator sequel sucked
Some movies are so good, they don't require a sequel. In fact some movie 'franchises' could learn a lot from that.
Such a great movie. Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans play off each other so well. The back and forth banter between them is great.
Which is crazy because they hated each other
@@williamswiniuch7527 Damon Wayans hates everyone. I've never heard about one set where he gets along with the rest of the cast. Ever. Not even In Living Color, and those where his siblings.
@@kyraspikes7542he and Jim Carrey are best friends, as well as David Alan Grier. Didn’t really care for JLo
Tony Scott, damn he was a great director... He had such a unique and beautiful style...
Yeah his earlier movies like this and True Romance were epic. He started to go too crazy with his later films like Domino/Man on Fire. Didn't like those too much.
I love the cinematic look of this film, particularly how the close-ups seem just a little too close. I also love how the action looks, and the fact that a bunch of the small bad guy roles are played by comedians.
It's a Tony Scott movie RIP. He also did Beverly Hills Cop 2 and Top Gun.
One of my favorite movies, this is definitely a classic
Los Angeles Stallions running back Billy Cole, who shoots several Cleveland football players and then shoots himself in the opening scene, was played by famous Tae Bo instructor Billy Blanks.
I thought he looked familiar, lol
Saw this in the theater when I was 14. Good time to be alive.
The opening title sequence with Bill Medley performing “Friday Night's a Great Night for Football" was a satire on ABC's old Monday Night Football opening sequence “All My Rowdy Friends" performed by Hank Williams Jr. in the 1980s and 1990s.
So many great lines in this movie.
“Just trying to break the ice.”
“I like ice, leave it tf alone.”
One of my favorite buddy pictures is "Running Scared"(1986) Starring Billy Crystal & (the late great)Gregory Hines. It really has the best buddy chemistry. Hines & Crystal became real life best friends while making the movie and it shows.
Running Scared is my favorite movie and don't Julio Gonzales
I watched Running Scared the other day. Crystal and Hines were golden together
running scared was a great movie. Billy was also friends with Ali
This film was such a classic, I first watched it in a Brisbane theatre as one of the last films I would watch with one of my best friends before he travelled to Israel for an open ticket holiday. My friend is now happily married with 3 young children while I live in the mountains with my lady managing a Business. My friend and I were only young at the time we saw this film we never know what path our future has in store but remember this we only get one shot at getting things right when we're young so make it count.
CLASSIC! Forgotten gem by most people!
Watch The Game with Michael Douglas…
I’ll second that request!
His daughter is played by Danielle Harris who is now a legendary Scream Queen in horror and a podcaster.
WATCHED THIS 100 TIMES AS A 90s TEEN. BRILLIANT FUN FLICK.
"SURFS UP PAL"
Bro your reaction was spot on! Take it from a 53 year old that lived through all these great movies… this movie is soooo underrated… so many awesome one liners. Great reaction.
I think you’re the first person to react to this. Nice work, sir!
dont think people appreciate Damon Wayans enough....Homie Claus..man,...those sketches he did on Living Colour....superb comedian....this team up with Willis was absolute gold...
Thank you for watching and reacting to this true underated classic
The late, great Tony Scott at the helm.
Shane Black as the hottest screenwriter on the scene.
A buddy action flick that could stand Toe to Toe with Lethal Weapon.
Willis is perfectly casted (a hero despite himself).
Wayans doing his first big budget feature after 'In Living Colour' fame.
Halle Berry after her debut in Jungle Fever, same year.
The one-liners are undenialble.
Action scenes are off the charts.
Willis & Wayans were an unlikely pair (it still worked).
It's all over the place with enough time to keep up with it.
haven't seen anyone react to this movie yet. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I've seen this a BUNCH of times.
I know it isn't funny but the look in my guy's eyes when Haley was gunned down had me in stitches. My dude was really upset and that is what made it so funny. Another great reaction sire
Speaking of Kim Coates getting his face punched by Bruce Willis, check out another movie that he's in: Innocent Blood, a John Landis Vampire/Mob comedy. It's so good.
Allegedly Bruce and Damon HATED each other which is crazy because they had pretty good chemistry
This was such a dope movie and people don’t know about it. So glad you reacted to it.
"This ain't football!"
At that moment it became clear. This reaction will be EPIC.
One of the most underrated action flicks of the 20th century.
One of the best and most underrated action/comedies of all time. Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans make an amazing team.
I love how this movie is at the same time serious funny and action packed. Well written with interesting multi-layered characters.
Bruce Willis, Damon Wayans & Taylor Negron were amazing in this movie.
I still think Halle is one of the sexiest women alive, lol. I watched this movie with my kids back about 95, they still love this movie and so do I.
One of my all time favorite Bruce Willis flicks and it’s very underrated
I've watched this movie more times than I can count and it's still great
Another great Tony Scott movie. I would recommend doing a lot more from his catalog. Man on fire is spectacular. Spy game, his remake of the taking of Pelham 123. All great movies.
Such an overlooked gem.
She was Gorgeous back then I was a obsessed teenager after I saw her in this in the UK on Video. Its a classic Film great reaction again like your honesty when a Hot woman appears 💯👋💪
I love this move so much. I even have a movie poster of it that I've hung onto since it came out. Another reason to miss video stores - they were a great place to buy movie posters they didn't need anymore! I have so many classics.
Rapid fire starring Brandon Lee is pretty good also.
The reason the comedy in this movie worked, is that it was written by Shane Black, the same guy who wrote all the Lethal Weapon 'buddy cop' movies. Another 'buddy' movie written by him worth watching is 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.
joe's daughter Danielle Harris played jamie in Halloween 4 and 5. she also played Annie in Rob Zombie Halloween.
Kim Coates played SOA and Waterworld
Milo played the pizza guy in fast times at ridgemont high
Mike Matthews played D-day in Animal house. sheriff farley in my cousin vinny and in the tv reboot of jack reacher
tony soprano's jame Gandolfini and joe santos played Angelo Garepe in the sopranos and he played in the rockford files
Finally, someone recognizes the DJ!! I have watched quite a few of these reactions and no one has noticed, until you!
Probably one of Bruce Willis most sarcastic characters along with John McLain and Hudson hawk
I have not seen all of Tony Scotts movies. But so far I have loved all of them.
This is my personal best movie. I know it's not the best, but the plot, the one-liners and the sarcasm made it for me. Finally someone reacted to it. Thanks
From '91 to 98, the action movies were cutting edge, gritty and that all tried to one up each other. Check out hard boiled if you haven't!
A reaction to The Last Boy Scout!?! Wow. There is so few of them here.
Watched that movie so many time on VHS.
Great reaction, sir.
"And just scarred half of America."
Proceeds to dance a jig...and scar the other half. 😁
Vanity (R.I.P.) was definitely my favorite lady of the 1980s! ''The Last Boy Scout'' is one of my favorite (hardcore) action movies of the 1990s. I've read some comments, so I don't have to put some any extra movie trivia in my comment. P.E.ace from overseas, The Netherlands.
I saw this movie in theater when it came out. I knew I was going to love it after Bruce was talking about the dead squirrel at the beginning.
In my Top 5 action movies for sure...
I saw it in the theater with a friend from school. We had no idea what it was.
I loved it. He wasn’t so sure.
I can almost recite this movie. 😈
greetings and love from germany again....lov your reactions....and after you said "...awe, not the dogs," at the end of the movie i love you too....it just shows me what kind of man you are inside, .........stay safe and take care, buddy
I've been waiting for someone to do a review of this movie. It's endlessly entertaining.
This is my favorite Bruce Willils action movie of all time and it's a damn shame that nobody seems to remember it or care about it. I used to watch it all the time back when it came out and I was kid and my friends and I used to own it on VHS in college and watch it all the time too. Also, it's not a random B movie. It's written by Shane Black (of Lethal Weapon fame) and directed by Tony Scott, so it had everything to be as successful as any other famous action movie of the same era yet somehow didn't land.
The cousin of Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. A true classic.
I love this movie watch it every now and then
I can't believe you reacted to this PROPS TO YOU💯👍👍. If you've never seen "16 blocks" with Bruce Willis & mos def, put it on the list in the future its pretty good.
I love this movie! Very underrated! Great reaction!
One of my Favorite Movies!
I was going to leave more of a comment, but you covered it all in your wrap up. I do have to say you definitely nailed it about 80s Vanity and 90s Halle Berry :), a great movie one of my favorites.
Very underated gem. Good analysis 👍
Please do 48 hrs. You’re missing out big time.
One of the best action movies. Dope reaction man.
You should check out Bulletproof (1996). Its hilarious. Damon Wayans & Adam Sandler.
The movie didn't have sequels per se, but they basically remade it twice. Kind of. The same writer did two other movies with a private detective /argumentative sidekick to follow the same formula as this one. In my opinion, better both times. Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. I just love the other two more. The first was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. The other was the Nice Guys with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. I very highly recommend both.
Most underrated action movie ever. I absolutely love this movie.
18:29 - that move where he seemingly "shoved his nose into his brain" is actually based on an urban myth.
One of my favorite films!
Tony Scott's best movie after True Romance!
One of my all time favorites.!! Me and my dad watched this like.a 100 times
"The convertible top with explosive bolts?"
"Yeah, there could be a convertible top with explosive bolts in later models..."
absolutely brilliant film, always seems to go under the radar as well
I love this movie. A Bruce Willis classic but Damon Wayans is one of my favourite comedians and did himself justice for his portrayal of a complicated person in an action movie.
6:47-6:59 " Frenching strippers during work hours?!" I almost died laughing at that response from you bro. lol 🤣
The line said before the football player blows his brains out - ‘ain’t life a bitch’ - was ‘I’m going to Disneyland’ in the script.
Joel Silver Productions… any action movie with his name attached is a win, for me…
Great reaction. I love this film. Of course ithought Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans made a good team, but also as always a fantastic performance by Danielle Harris.
Glad You Enjoyed This I Think This is a Fantastic Underrated Gem. Loads of Laughs, Tons of Action Always thought there should have been a Sequel to this.
Also I'm glad you mentioned Vanity. I know you did the last Dragon and I'm now going through your catalogue. That is also Top 3 of all time. Vanity and of course Halley Berry and amongst the most beautiful talented woman in the world.
a fucking classic !!! i loved this movie as a kid me and a buncha friends went to go watch this in theaters when i was a kid nothing like 90s action movies
Haven’t thought about this movie since I saw it at the Alondra 6 as a 12 yr old. Wow.
I have not watched this movie in years! One of my favorites!
Overlooked but awesome action flick.
Great under appreciated movie with a final scene screaming sequel. If you like this try True Romance a true best of the 90s entry !
Just an fyi , Bruce Willis started with more comedic roles to start his career. Moonlighting tv series, Blind Date movie .
90’s Halle Berry
80’s Vanity
70’s Pam Grier
60’s Nicole Nichelle
Linkara reviewed a football comic, asking the question why a football player would need bulletproof armor. I think the beginning kind of answered that question.
Thank you soook much for doing this movie! One of my favorites! There are so many rememberable lines. You hit it on the head with your ending thoughts. Great reaction!
one of my favorite action flicks when I was a kid.
One of my favourite movies growing up and, in my opinion, Bruce Willis's best movie after the first Die Hard
Classic ever. Greatness
And don't forget it's gotta be the top 34 surprise opening scenes
Great Bruce Willis movie.
this is one of my top 5 movies. it's just so damn good.
It has everything: Willis telling sarcastic jokes, a Wallans brother, prostitutes, Halley Berry more beautiful than ever, a good villain, American football, shooting, a good script, etc.
I've seen it 15 or 20 times over the years, I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good time of good 90s action movies.
