    When I went into premature labor a lot of other women also were going into labor. My nurse was telling me it's getting really busy and "I swear everyone gives birth in batches. Some days it's practically empty, then some days all the rooms fill at once" I was laughing saying "but it's not even a full moon yet"

    I didn't know about the colostrum. I thought I'd have to order some donated breast milk because I've heard of hungry fussy newborns but I'm glad to hear our body is giving out what their tiny tummy is meant to handle.

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  Před rokem +5

      Yes! And if you do choose to supplement a bit cause baby seems over fussy know it’s not a LOT of formula! Just a few mL will do it. But always baby to breast first so they give you those efficient ducks to help your milk come in for them ♥️

      Hungry fussy newborns may be failing to latch. Some people fail to produce milk if they're having diabetic problems. Remember, everything can go wrong, but if you're healthy, you should produce enough milk. Trouble is, you're technically sick from the waist down after giving birth

      You can also try to hand expel some colostrum weeks before baby arrives, freeze it into medical grade syringes, and have some ready to go at the hospital just in case they can't latch to you well. I haven't tried it yet myself.

    I'm an autistic mama-to-be, and I will be **surprised** if I feel an instantaneous love bond with my baby, because so many autistic moms take a while to develop that relationship.
    On the other hand, I **strongly** suspect that I would absolutely feel naked and empty and desperate if they abruptly took the baby **away** from me, to another room (luckily not a concern, in my hospital, as we have most emergency equipment in-room). That's a kind of bond, as well. We've been a sort of dyad, all this time. The physical absence of the baby would be **awful.**

  • @mamaberry
    @mamaberry Před 4 měsíci +3

    The information on epidurals is **such** a relief. I'm getting induced, and I've been terrified of needing an epidural to handle pitocin, but slowing down labor enough that I end up needing more of that pitocin.
    I am hoping for a minimally medicated birth, but I **had** really wanted access to nitrous oxide for early labor, if I needed an analgesic. Unfortunately, our hospital isn't able to offer it, so it's been a huge weight on my mind whether to go with an untimely epidural or with fentanyl, if the pain gets to be too much in early labor.

    Another great and informative video to counter all that incorrect and unsolicited advise every expecting mother gets during pregnancy! Thank you, Mama Nurse Tina!
    Eighteen years as a L&D RN and patient teaching was one of the most enjoyable parts of my career. To be able to support and to help empower women during one of their most overwhelming and important life events is such an honour. For breastfeeding mamas, I also found it incredibly important to teach their partner how to help with breastfeeding, from ensuring mama is staying well hydrated and rested, to how to ensure a proper latch and hand positioning, etc. Knowledge is power!

    My pain was unbearable with the epidural… really. I remember thinking “if someone cut my arm off right now it will probably not hurt as much as this”. I knew something was off when I felt pain putting the catheter in. I don’t know what happened exactly but I’m even considering not even getting it if it won’t do anything.

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  Před rokem +1

      Hmmm. That’s interesting. If you felt the catheter it didn’t work at all!

    My husband is a redhead and was listening, he has a bleeding disorder and chimed in sayong while redheads dont bleed more they are more likely to have a bleeding condition hence where that comes from.

    See my epidural last time was so strong I felt absolutely nothing. No pressure, couldn’t move, I hated it. I didn’t know to say something I thought that’s how it was supposed to be. I am planning unmedicated this time to avoid that experience again

  • @Ambipie

    If you think your epidural ran out, you must remember that you are in little enough pain to form that thought. Without it, you'd be in TRUE PAIN

      Just be flexible in your thinking and know that you'll be pretty closely monitored. But remember it is more than possible. Use lots of positions to keep that pelvis moving and changing to allow your baby to drop and engage. And enjoy your birthing experience :)

    Question 🙋🏻‍♀️ do boys eat more than girls ?

  • @reflectionsinthebible3579
    @reflectionsinthebible3579 Před 9 měsíci

    Babies tend to lose weight in breast milk. I’m a bit worried about that this time because the doctors always get nervous about it. I was thinking maybe I should use formula too. I also am thinking I should have at least one on hand.

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  Před 9 měsíci

      You could bring a bit of formula and if you choose to supplement and are wanting to breast feed first then always make sure to latch baby to get that stimulation at the breast and for them to take what you have in there and then offer a supplement. You could also do colostrum harvesting!
