    Thanks for this video! I've been exclusively pumping since my baby was 4 days old because she was jaundiced. She's now a month old and I'm still pumping due to her being a bad latcher.
    Her appetite has been catching up with my supply over the last couple of days and I've been feeling anxious about that. This video came at a great time! I'm currently recovering from breast infections (baby being a bad latcher and all) but will give power pumping a try once I've recovered.

    This is perfect timing. I’ve been trying to find more informative videos on increasing supply for my baby born 17 days ago. I’m EPing and have been feeding from the bottle since he was in the NICU and took him so long to be able to even drink from the bottle nipple. I’ve been pumping every 2 1/2-3 hours with a 4 hour stretch at night for sleeping. I’m going to power pump every day/other day and see if that helps too.

    Had to update: Perfect timing! I had my 35 week premie baby a week ago and we are working on his poor latch and lack of sucking reflex. The nurses at the hospital said to offer a pacifier so he can practice sucking in between feedings since he is 5 weeks shy of adequate practice. I pump every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. During the day we do a diaper change, skin to skin, I offer boob for 20 minutes of practice latching and sucking, then I follow up with feeding him my breast milk previously pumped. Then I follow up with a 30 minute pump session with 5-10 minute of massage after pumping. He started cluster feeding today and I want to get ahead of my milk supply even more. 8 days since birth and I'm producing 12-13 ounces a day. I still want more! I hope I'm doing this all correctly. I'm such a worried Mama!

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  Před rokem +2

      Your NICU nurses are absolutely experts with these little preemies so what they are saying seems accurate! But remember if you want to increase your supply pump more often and remove more milk. So if you want more you’re going to pump more often and make sure once you get to empty you pump about 5 minutes or so more!

    Any tips for when a baby absolutely refuses to nurse from one breast? I've tried different holds, nipple shields, she refuses. Because of this, my one nipple is cracked and it's very painful to nurse and pump but somehow I'm still powering through it.

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina  Před rokem +2

      Oh no! It sounds like you’re doing everything right! I would say just continuing to offer it and being consistent. First try always offering it first when baby is hungry. If that’s not working try offering it mid way through the feed when baby is full. Until baby takes that side you might have to keep feeding on the one they will take and pump the other side. But take care of those nipples! I would try the silverette nursing cups, they are great for damaged nipples and encouraging healing!

      Most pumps come with a 24mm flange which is usually too big. You’d have to get a nipple measuring tool and see where your nipples sit. A lot of times buying an insert is the way to go.

    Flange video plsssss. I am curious to know that if nipple size is standard but breasts are C cups, do you need to buy big flange or stick with size chart of the pump company? As it shows 28mm for me but i end up having ripped skin on the aereola.

      Most important thing you can do is remove more milk more often. So like it says if you’re trying to increase supply you have to increase feeds or pump. So every 1.5-2 hours during the day and every 3 hours overnight. Also pump or feed to empty then stimulate beyond that ♥️

      This a fairly individualized process and it will vary country to county and state to state. We have patients who are on a naloxone program so that they aren't using while pregnant but instead are on a program where it is a different substance that is safer and more regulated. Also they are monitored more closely for a period of time of 7 days postpartum instead of the usual one day for a vaginal delivery and are doing skin to skin the entire time with themselves and their support networks to help them and baby. But again these programs are individualized and specific to the place you live. Otherwise I would imagine a detox or rehab program would be best before you are actually pregnant. Have you found a provider who can help you line these supports up?

    Power pumping and drinking more water than what is even recommended for breastfeeding is the only way I got my supply up! I tried some foods and they did nothing lol. I always tell moms asking for advice in the FB groups to aim for 1.5-2 gallons of water a day and POWER PUMP at least once a day. Body armor really helps too when I'm struggling to drink enough water. I doubt it's anything in the body armor and actually helps because I chug it since it tastes good lol

      I am so disappointed in myself. I gave my 5 week 4 day baby a bottle of formula today because he was nursed through the day and still gave hunger cues and screamed at me in frustration. I just pumped and got a total of 2 oz and it's several hours after he nursed last. I was pumping 8oz a session initially. I don't know what is happening or what I'm doing wrong. I don't want to give up, but I can't let him scream and starve.
