What has 5 holes and shreds? Bul Armory Axe FS Tomahawk review

- The Bul Armory Axe FS Tomahawk was redesigned for 2024 and now boasts an amazing grip texture and five ports at 12 o'clock that makes a light weight gun an absolutely riot to shoot.
Thanks to Bul Armory for providing the gun; Gideon Optics for providing the sight for video.

Sweet. Glad you did this one. I love mine!
Looking forward to your Gideon Opitcs review. I've got a good feeling with those guys providing a good value optic.
the quality of your filming makes it look so beautiful.
Picked one up last month, ran it 600 rounds, then the trigger safety/trigger shoe pin literally fell out whilst cleaning it that night. I had to smoother it in Vibra-TITE just to hold (knurling was done for). That's when I discovered Bul Armory's warranty department is a bit of a joke. 2 dudes on Miami that don't respond half the time, wanted the entire pistol back for roughly 60 days. I'll pass on their nicer offerings because of that experience.
Ironically enough, they must have used my dinosaur juice on your pistola. Mine came out of the bag dry as a bone.
Overall, it's a heck of a platform for the cost. Even with a light mounted, it still feels lighter than it should for some reason. Stupid DS 1911/2011s have ruined me.
As always, great review!
I have nearly 1k through my Springfield DS1911 in the past month, and honestly, I think I might just go to CZ and have a good time with their guns.
PS. My Springfield was picked up for cheap, so I spent money to have tool steel parts installed and the trigger set at 3lbs (pulls at 2.5-2.6lbs now) and that bumped the price to what they were going for when they were new 1500~.
I was pretty excited for you to review this one.
Its like you knew I've been drooling over this gun for the last week or two... Well now I must get one.
Hi David, just wanted to show some appreciation for your videos, I find myself always going back to your videos before I purchase a pistol (literally just watched the X5 legion video) and they always help me make a decision, so thank you again
Glad to help
I asked if you would be doing a review when these dropped, good to see this is what I excepted it to be.
3:09 Bul Armory needs to buy this Range Bag clip from you. This presentation was perfection. 😂
I second this
Love the show. I don’t know if you do requests but I’d love to see you review a German STP 2011 as it’s hard to get any info on them!
Awesome video! I've been waiting for reviews of their new models!
Check back tomorrow
I have the tomahawk on the IWA Show in my hand and was very impressed about the quality and the trigger. I don't like Glock, but this was a game changer for me.
Awesome video as always man! Got to play with a Tomahawk recently and that pistol makes me look like a better shooter than I really am!
Just picked one of these up and it is amazing!!! Super loud, but recoil is like a 22LR. Also accurate and fast. Love this pistol and now waiting to pick up the compact version.
Half the normal 9 mm recoil for a reason. The whole barrel is ported so milded out 9 mm. Something like shooting .44 special from .44 Remington Magnum revolver.
That trigger kinda reminds me of the timney trigger for glocks. Timney also continues to move back when you rack the slide. Like you said tho you dont realize it during live fire only when your staring at it for trigger reset dry fire.
I really want one of these
Been looking out for an Axe C Hatchet but might save my pennies to get the Tomahawk now
Is the hatchet gonna come out with these upgrades? Thanks, great video as always
Got my FS for $750 as advertised and found a Gideon optic for $180. Looking forward to running it.
I love mine.
Proper grip texture in proper grip texture areas, absolutely love it.
Finally a review on the new axe! Would love to see how it compares to the shadow systems “P” guns
I hope to film that soon
The sights actually have a black protective film over them from the factory. Use can use a needle to remove the film and there are white dots indeed on the factory sights.
I have the Axe Hatchet c love it!
I'm thinking of getting into some competive shooting......Canik rival S? I got a XDM osp with a trigger in it. I'll try it first. Thoughts.
Had mine for a couple weeks, it’s a sexy gun!
Where did you buy it? Only found them on PSA but wanting a black slide.
@@jasonriggs3655 I bought it off of the Bul Armory online store. I signed up for the restock notifications and bought it as soon as I could!
I'm looking to get one of these in compact size for the edc rotation. The more i mess around with comps & ports, the less likely I am to get a standard barrel alone anymore.... I can't wait to try the Langdon PX4 Storm "cheater gun" with the Vantage slide comp when i get back home. Ports & comps ftw imo. 🎉
Just bought the bul based on this review. Was wondering if you'd recommend the gideon for it? I also found a mecanik m03 or a swampfox justice 2 for a similar price. Any thoughts? Great vid and shooting!
Love the looks on this one. Can't find anywhere though.
sign up on their website to be notified when they come in stock.
I got notified they were in stock last month. I was surprised they stayed in stock for a number of weeks….but when they’re gone there is usually a significant wait for restock.
Thanks for the awesome video. I wish Bul would make a 43X clone that took more than 10 rounds
That’d be cool!
I want this as my next firearm
I have this pistol I love it. My only gripe I have are about the cheap mags. But standard mags from Glock work fine.
I agree the mags would be the only negative ….they feel cheap and springs aren’t the best
i have a Cleaver that I made into a prior genTomahawk sans red dot. These IMO are the best Glock clone for the money. I chose the Bul over the Shadow Systems. And since the Cleaver was like $300 cheaper, it went to the gunsmith for window cuts, cerakote and some wacky match grade barrel with a funny spelling. My trigger is between 3.5 and under 4.Stock. And I'm pretty sure it's ergal..It's a tasty lil clone..
Had an FS Hatchet. After a 1000 rounds the trigger safety dongle fell off. Now, between 5 and 6k rounds, the frame has cracked. It still seems functional but, really? I'm sending it back. Bul sent me a label so CS has been ok so far.
Whoa
Yeah, but really enjoyed it until then.
Dang, been wanting to get one of these... Got me on edge and hesitant
Gotta love honest reviews
I really like that offering...but for me, I would prefer a comp that goes on the end (old school) for the reason you not of the optics fogging up... Just give me a threaded barrel and I'll make the decision to comp or no comp. Very good job BUL.
Currently training with this more as it may become my edc. I currently move between the Shadow Systems XR920 with the Radiant Afterburner/Ramjet combo and the CR920P. I also install the Timney trigger on my SS pistols. I won’t change the trigger on the Bul.
You’re right on the carbon dust getting on the optic. I run the Holosun 508T on mine, still gets “fogged up.” That’s to be expected on a ported barrel.
I use the Underwood 68gr +P Extreme Defender so I’m not worried about losing too much velocity to matter
A round like that will probably lose more velocity than a 147+P
@@TheHumbleMarksman I agree, but I believe still affective
@@TheHumbleMarksman on another note, been following you since the older times when I think you used to stand in front of a door if I recall correctly. You and the Honest Outlaw are my go to channels for honest and truthful reviews. I don’t compete, but I like your point of view from a competitor perspective.
BTW- I have the full blown LTT “full size” PX4. Badass! But I was wondering, do you still carry the compact carry version? Been thinking about getting that one as the thickness of the full size is a bit much with my budda belly
7:57 I’ve found this to hold true with Norma 65gr frangible 9mm you’d have to swap out to a lighter spring.
The range bag clip lololol
I like those bul armory firearms
12:20 so in your evaluation Dave , which of the tow manages stand ammo like 115 or 124 more ? The bul Tac pro or the AXE FS ?
Bull armory is killing it
Porting and 1911 DS / 2011s seem like the guns everyone wants to buy and shoot.
Would be cool if USPSA gave us a division for ported with optics.
Open
@@X420BlazeNoScope Lolz true enough. Least competitive Open gun possible.
Glad to see Bul getting some more love! Thanks for putting them on my radar. I'm doing my part as a member of their volunteer marketing department. 😂
They make it pretty easy
Please do a head to head with the cr920p! That was the gun I’m planning to buy next until I saw this video.
The CR is much smaller than this
I have the budget Cleaver C. It's not optics ready and the sights are white dots. Mine didn't come that oily.
Great video. How does it shoot compared to the Walther Q4 SF....I'm looking for a better shooter than that???
Different experience. It’s more stable at speed but doesn’t have the handling characteristics of a heavy gun. Trigger is nicer on the Walther but the Bul is no slouch
Any chance you'll still upload the cleaning/lubricating video of the Laugo alien you mentioned from that last video you made on it? I have one coming in and was curious on how the whole process works as well as what type of load recipes the gun seems to like.
That’s already up
@@TheHumbleMarksman Woops I’m an idiot. Well that answers the cleaning question. Any recommendations on a load recipe it prefers? Currently running 147gr round nose blue bullets w/ N320 @ MPF but aware I’ll have to swap to jacketed bullets. Curious if it runs better with 124 or 115’s. Thanks!
Had little interest in another polymer Glone, but the addict in me likes BUL. 1 video later im on another 'notify me when in stock' list. The price is very acceptable, the wait might not be 😂
Never seen a bul armory gun in my area unfortunately. Always been interested in them
They're pretty much sold only through their webstore because they can't produce enough guns to support a dealer network.
@@danielhenderson8316 gotcha thanks
How is it that you only have 160K subscribers? I don’t get it; your stuff is first rate. Best regards
If they were in stores to handle in person, and if they had a decent warranty, then I might take another look at Bul. As it is, I wouldn’t buy any of the striker fired Bul guns for any reason. I’d buy one of their double stack 1911’s if they’d use better internals and coatings or drop the price a few hundred bucks to make it cost what it’s worth.
What exactly are you referring to- the triggers are legit on the SASII guns - the safeties are MIM but have held up very well - and the only other MIM part is the firing pin stop and who cares about that
@@TheHumbleMarksman my buddy has one he shoots for competition and the coating on the inside of the gun was course and thick and scratchy. When the internals have to move freely to give you a good trigger pull, it’s damn near impossible with crap all over the inside of the gun. For what he paid, that gun should’ve been polished EVERYWHERE and had a better coating on it. He’s had nothing but trouble with Bul customer service and every time they take the pistol back, they have it forever and they send it back without the issues being fixed. I’ve seen you shoot yours and I know you love it, and I’m glad you got a good one and you get good service from Bul, but that’s something I’ve yet to see in person yet, that’s all. Just like you say in your videos, this is a sample size of one that I’m working with. Maybe if I had more interactions with them it would be different, but for now I’m standing solid on my choice. Bul wont get a single penny of my money until they make themselves worth it. Sorry, Marksman. I promise I’m not trying to talk smack. Just being honest about what I’ve seen and experienced.
@@Bryan-1980local shop has had 1 of Bul’s “Spiker” 2011’s for a while now. Wanting ovet 7k$ for it.
It’s a really nice pistol but not Atlas nice which are 6-8k$…
@@PnP-td1mt my point exactly. Finding one in the wild is like looking for a needle in a haystack and once you get one, your screwed if it’s over a year old because Bul won’t touch it without charging an arm and a leg. From what I’ve seen, they don’t do much in the way of quality control or customer service. I can literally send my Hayes Custom or my Atlas back them for any issues I may have, but so far all I’ve had to do is send one back to get resprung after porting it and shaving some more weight off the slide, just because I know if I send it to them, they’ll send it back better than they got it and they won’t bend me over when it comes time to pay the piper 😂 my buddy shoots a Bul in competition and the coating on the inside of that thing looks like lumpy drywall. He’s sent it back twice and they’ve refused to blast the frame and slide and recoat it for him. He’s just waiting for someone to buy it off him so he can go buy another gun to compete with.
I wonder the difference between the FS and the C version, how lil extra size + one extra port effects the shooting experience?
David, you should let Bul Armory know that their product is like unicorn! They should increase production to fill up the demand
I tell them every time I talk to them!
Good and bad thing i've found with the new "hatchet" version is that there seems to be at least minor hand fitting. Good because of the tight fit, but dropping in a standard threaded barrel is difficult as it doesn't always fit.
Ahh - good to know
Have you tried the Spartan clear clean thing on any optics? If it works, could be good for keeping optics clear on guns like this
I will give it a shot on this one
SOLD OUT ALREADY ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!!!!!
10:41 you’ll discover this on Timney alpha triggers as well. Oh well.
I like aggressive grips, I have a cheely extra aggressive E2 grip for my 2011 build 🤣
That trucker hat is awesome…where can we get it?
Air Assault!
The whataburger whatastore
is the frame and slide interchangeable with glock parts?
Does my local gun shop has it or if not could I get it purchased for me 😎 .
Me: Oh hey, David has a new video out I haven't seen yet. Kewl. *Goes to get a coffee refill while the intro plays and I listen to the dad joke from the kitchen*
Also me, actually sitting down and paying attention: Oh wow, nice optic choice David! Woohoo!
Curious if the same effect could be had by less porting or using a low profile comp, the dirty glass kinda kills it for me, thats pretty bad fouling after only 300 rounds. Seems like porting all the way to the chamber is a bit extreme… i mean, there is a purpose for a barrel… being enclosed. None the less seems like an impressive platform for the price
No review for new swampfox big window optic?
It’s coming
At around 8:27, your first offhand shot, it looked like the gun was a little lethargic going back into battery? Surprising considering the liter of oil it sounds like it came with!
Nonetheless, this seems like probably the best ergos of any glock clone. I hope they send you a Blaze to review soon!!
Yeah if I limp wristed when it was new new it did that - it stopped doing it as the recoil spring began breaking in
Still subscribed! : )
such a good looking gun.. makes sigs and glocks seem less good at looking
if you were to chose...CZ Shadow compact or Bul Armory Axe FS tomahawk?
I mean for what? Neither of those guns would be my pick for carry - S2 is pretty porky - the Bul grip is really aggressive.
I wonder how well ports like this reduces recoil compared to something like a comp on the Staccato XC
I have done a couple videos comparing ported guns to the XC
@@TheHumbleMarksman Oh nice. Going to go check em out
Is spawl a concern when it comes to ports like this?
Potentially - I didn’t have any issue with the ammo I tried
👍
Is a ported barrel USPSA legal in carry optics class?
No
Title reminds me of the ending of, "the last boyscout" ..
I was going for the Ricky Bobby - but that works too.
if i was going to ever run a tupperware, this one would be the one id run. where was this gun 20 years ago when i was far less sophisticated?
UPC code? I can't find this for sale on the internet. (Which is wildly surprising)
Go to Bul Armory’s USA website
And sign up to be notified when they are in stock
@@TheHumbleMarksman Thank you sir.
How much velocity is lost to the porting along all that length? How is it different to those factory porty that they used to make? Is anyone replicating those? If there is it'd make for an interesting comparison.
That’s answered in the video - at least this models velocity loss
About 6%
@@TheHumbleMarksman
I watched the video but had to fidget with something and missed it. Thanks.
@@TheHumbleMarksman
Darn, I missed it while watching the whole thing. Thanks.
Makes me hope Beretta will see this resent trend of high performance full/mid size ported poly guns and come out with a more "performance" version of the APX line (Maybe with a 4.5/4.6, 40cal barrel bored out for 9mm like the PX4 G-sd).
(Yes I am a APX A1 fanboy, sue me.)
Gross.
@@wehrewulf I know. I am seeing my doctor next week about my condition, but I might already be a lost cause. X﹏X
BUL or Staccato? What's your choice?
Depends on the size of the gun we are talking about
@@TheHumbleMarksman There's an idea for a video! 4.25, 5, comp/ported? Just a thought! Love the videos!
I really want one of these! I'll take that over Glock any day
Bad ass
California is really missing out, there’s some real good guns out there that cost as much as upgrading a Glock with everything I’d want
How do farmers count their cows?
With a cowculator.
Solid
They stay sold out. I'm hoping to get one soon though
I get that you need to rep Optics Planet if they’re willing to sponsor you, but man that company sucks. Will never make the mistake of ordering from them again.
That’s a hell of a nice fleece
I don't mind the 47, hated my 17 though. Just don't like GLOCKS since they're the Kleenex and QTips of the gun world.
I cant find one for sale anywhere.
Bul Armory’s website
@TheHumbleMarksman been checking for the last month and it's never been in stock? Also seems no one anywhere else carries any Bul armory anything. Weird
during COVID Bul Armory - being based in Israel - had to fold up their dealer/distributor network and went to a direct sale sort of model. Their government basically shut down the company and there was zero production for a while which put them in a sticky situation with open orders they had. They finally got past it as things opened up but went to a direct distribution model for the time being as they built back capacity.
Did not see how this gun was, “flat shooting.”
👀
The other models are the Hatchet and the Cleaver 😂
Am I the only one who did the Homer Simpson. "Ohh speed holes"
That’s on purpose
Too bad you can’t buy them in Massachusetts 😢
👎
This or the shadow systems xr920p, or canik tti.... thoughts?
Also, why did the Momma vegetable name her two sons Gus and gus?
If one got eaten, she would have A-spare-Gus....
Sorry
Heart for the joke - I will do a video on the comps in a bit
@@TheHumbleMarksman that was a home cooked one haha! And nice
Made in Isreal "jewish Glock17" makes sense on the pricing and components im in love with the slide
1 year warranty and iffy customer service drives me away from buying from them
Do they even have a US base to send in guns for repair? Or who imports them?
The company ships them directly out of Miami. Have no idea about warranty procedures.
I have four of their pistols and haven't had any issues. Aside from vehicles, I've never used a warranty but obviously YMMV.
It's just a gun... not a vehicle or a home. How often would you ever contact the customer service of a gun company or use the warranty? That sounds like unnecessary stress compared to just moving on to the next gun.
Bruh they are Jews what do you expect. 😂
Bul Armory quality is second to none in any class it’s in. My Bul 1911 is 97% of my Dan Wesson Specialist and that’s due to mim parts and there’s a $1300 price difference.
Yes’ we areson!😂😂😂😂
Are we going to ignore the elephant in the room? The porting makes this an Open division gun. Would this be competitive in that situation? With porting quickly becoming as common as an optics mount, how long before USPSA has to create a striker fired with ports division?
in IDPA porting is allowed - but this isn't an IPSC/USPSA gun for sure.
I come here for the dad jokes.
ba-dass.
