  • The Staccato XC is a dream gun for many - the Bul Armory Tac Pro 4.25 is a very cool gun that does something similar at about half the price - so we square the guns off in a head to head deep dive!

    Another thing to consider about the ports is even though they are smaller than a comp, they have higher pressure gas coming out of them because they are still pressurized from the round still being in the barrel.

    Definitely a high value proposition from the Bul. Getting a lot for your dollar. Too bad they can’t make them faster. I simply gave up on them after I’d been on their “in stock” notification list for 8 months and when they dropped at 7am on a Sunday last month they sold out in 2 hours before I even saw the email. Seems Very strange to have so much demand and be incapable of even getting close meeting it. The 5” version sold out in a day recently as well.

    fyi, comps are easy to clean, Kano Kroil. I shot a bunch of Hi-Tec coated bullets out of my XC when I got it, leading was really bad. Used a q-tip to wet the inside of the comp, then went out and shot some Berry's and it blew almost all of the lead out. Now I'm using DG Bullets or Blue Bullets, not Hi-Tec coated, and use Kroil, and almost no leading.

    Great video. Just a note, Staccato has way better customer service than Bul Armory. This is coming from a future Bul owner if the gun ever shows up. I’m from California with the BS restrictions but Bul doesn’t make it easy to purchase their firearm. Staccato has the process down perfectly. With that said, once the C drops, I am buying the Staccato C. Take care all.

    Recoil has everything to preserved momentum/energy. The momentum of the projectile away from you is calculated by its weight and velocity. So both values affect recoil not just one or the other. The other factor is how short/long the lever arm is or, in other words, how close you can get to the fulcrum of movement(height over bore and hand position high in beaver tail using webbing of hand etc)

  • @texasranger24

    While your area for the port and comp size is probably right, the ports will do more work per area. Simply because the bullet is still in the barrel and the pressure is higher than at the comp, where pressure suddenly drops and some hot gas can also go forward behind the bullet. This following gas would've done something in the ports, but with the comp it is now lost.

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I'm pretty sure it's volume of gas that is redirected away from the direction of recoil that does more work than the pressure of what gas escapes. Think about it - the recoil is the equal and opposite of the reaction - using made up numbers - lets pretend that the comp redirects 80% of the gas up and only 20 % of the gas exits the muzzle - since it's half the diameter lets pretend that 40% of the gas exits the ports and 60% makes it out plus the weight of the bullet. There's just more ejecta leaving the barrel with ports versus a comp. a chunk port up front might be closer to what a comp is - but even still - that's not going to redirect as much as a comp would.

    • @texasranger24
      @texasranger24 Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@TheHumbleMarksman you are right about the amount of gas. Plus, as you said in the video, the forward position of the comp is more advantageous for leverage.
      I just tried to point out that the comp with more than twice the opening area of the ports won't do twice the work, as the ports squeeze out more per area despite their less advantageous leverage.

  • @ggrandcz
    @ggrandcz Před 9 měsíci +1

    Ports have smaller area but gases are under way higher pressure because they push bullet and there is almost no bypass for them around bullet inside of barrel. Comps need to have clearance so gases can escape also around bullet, they are in the end of barrel where the pressure is lower.
    The speed difference is virtually nonexisting in case you compare the same lenght guns which these two are not.

    The XC is listed as a Duty/Competition gun. I watched other videos you had on the XC. In a 2011 platform if you had to pick one to carry every day for personal defense and for dealing with predatory pests on your farm if you had one what would be your pick with respect to the durability of the gun and the finish for rust prevention, reliability whit a range of ammo, and dependability that you would bet your life on it going bang every time. I am aware of the cleaning requirements for 1911 and 2011 firearms.

  • @jasenolan7357
    @jasenolan7357 Před 9 měsíci +1

    You make a point about the port area compared between the two, but you haven't mentioned that the ported barrel is venting high pressure gas, as it's coming out while the projectile is still sealing the end of the barrel. Where as gas coming out of a compensator is actually low pressure, because there is nothing sealing the end of the comp to create that high pressure gas redirection. You certainly lose velocity with barrel ports because you are dropping the pressure, but you shouldn't lose that much with a comp because the projectile has already left the barrel before the gas can even get into the comp.
    It'd be very interesting to get them both on a ransom rest and running them to see which is actually more effective by how far the gun lifts.

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  Před 9 měsíci

      As an open shooter - it’s a comp - 100%.

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  Před 9 měsíci

      Also pressure isn’t the major reason there is a reduction - it’s more to do with gas volume - you are venting more unburned powder as well as gas with ports.

    • @michaell397
      @michaell397 Před 9 měsíci

      @@TheHumbleMarksman To add to this, now days you have to be careful or test a lot. So many ammo manufacturers are going to plated bullets. Both TMJ and open bases bullets. The makers of Berry's bullets which are plated state flat out that they are not for ported bbl's. comps are not affected like ports are.
      Blazer brass, Fiocchi, and in a different way, Winchester white box are an issue. the Winchester has a cupped base with very soft lead core which allows them to deform easily. . In ported bbl's, especially larger ports such as a Stacc port, the base expands into the poots and is shave off which leaves lead deposits inside the slide. Plated bullets are much worse. Even fully lapping the inside of the bore and counter boring the ports from the inside do not stop this, only lessen it.. Longer range accuracy is very affected. At 20 yards, huge difference!
      I see normanly jacketed bullets that are brass jacketed still deform slightly at the base whereas quality coper jackets are virtually unaffected. Same with the steel jacketed and then plated bullets from Tul and wolf. Totally unaffected.
      Issue is even though we may know not to use tmj bullets which is a plated bullet, most ammo makers are not telling us that the are tmj but rather still put fmj on the box. GRRRRRR!!! Another way to save money and make a better profit as plated bullets are substantially less expensive to produce.
      I've been porting bbl's for my use and fellow shooters since 1993 and have gained a lot of insight in this area.
      My C2 sports three ports and a Genghis type comp machinated in to the slide and muzzle. It shoots extremely soft. :
