I was gonna say, I feel like the disintegrating clothing represents greater social and cultural fears about political unrest, the climate crisis, crumbling societies and communities; especially among the young and educated populations the dread is ever growing in my experience. It's scary times, with the 2016 election, the pandemic, the war, taking away human rights and so on. (Nicole raffie did a good video on the resurgence of cannibalism in media that kinda touched on some of these points.) Overall I think we live in such a fast paced and uncertain time rn with a lot of suffering that's bombarding us thanks to social media, and it can feel very hopeless and like we are approaching apocalypse lol. I feel like the bow/whimsical aesthetics are kinda the other side of the coin, more about focusing on the good, hope, love, kinda fantastic and idealistic vibes

I think a little closer to October we're going to see a lot of Vampire Brides. Drapey silks and chiffons in rich colors especially red and purple, feverishly rouged cheeks, very matte facial makeup and messy red lips. Opulent pearl and gemstone jewelry, etc.

Tbh the first thing that came to my mind when seeing the "falling down/apart" trend was the trend of rich people dressing in a "homeless" style and cosplaying poor people. Not a fan of the sentiment but i do actually kinda love the look of grunge, almost dirty looking clothing, so I'm curious to see where this trend goes. Or maybe it's just a continuation of the oversized looks we've been seeing for years!
Great video as always! I always love people talking about runway looks cause the commentary makes them much more interesting!

I love that you're Manifesting a medieval trend! We all definitely need armor fashion in our lives!
Actually saw that video that have Abby Cox made. I completely agree with that point she made about how nowadays body shapes are trending rather the clothing shapes like how it was it was in historical times, and it's kinda making me want to get into historical fashion more!
I love the drop waist dresses because although it doesn't show your stomach, you still get that low rise feel. I wore a drop waist for my contemporary group dance, and I felt like a baddie 💅🏾💅🏾

I might read way too far into this, but lmao here we go.
You know, I am 100% seconding the rise of medieval/fantasy clothing styles. I feel like this is a reflection of pop culture, seeing the rise of high fantasy in media with Game of Thrones, Wheel of time, The Witcher, the ever-rising appraisal of the Souls-Borne series and Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 16 taking itself inspiration from modern interpretations of dark fantasy themes. Dungeons and Dragons has also seen a massive resurgence, following shows like Critical Role and Dimension 20 among others, and it's own movie hitting theaters.
It could also reflect the rise from "the dark age", exiting a pandemic we are still somewhat battling and wanting to rise above it heroically. We want to empower ourselves, become our own knights to save ourselves and get through to the other side, maybe not unscathed but alive and victorious. Knight and fantasy imagery has also been getting really popular, those looks fitting well into knightcore, evoking themes of peasants, squires, knights and enchantresses, witches and I'd also argue The Lady of the Lake with the mermaidcore looks.
These looks represent our collective daydream, how we'd like to see ourselves and perhaps evoke more virtuous societal values.
(Also, I love that we are starting to create shape with clothing like historical clothing used to do, which I think would be healthier for the mental well-being of society. I have been a big subscriber of dramatic puff sleeves for a couple of years now :3)

  • @professionalamateur741
    @professionalamateur741 Před 10 měsíci +22

I think the asymmetrical trend could be made with clothes people already own by just wearing them differently (I know you’ve said this in past videos, I’m just parroting your genius advice). Like I wore a Jean jacket with one arm through a sleeve and then I buttoned the other sleeve to the front so it was like half a cape. That probably doesn’t make sense but it was asymmetrical and fun, and I think this trend provides a fun challenge.
Also totally here for the historical knight fashion prediction, I love turning getting dressed into dressing up! Cowboys, knights, princesses, astronauts, witches, monsters, mermaids, aliens; so many things to take inspiration from or dress up as!!

    • @beepwrld
      @beepwrld  Před 10 měsíci +1

omg I totally get what you mean with the jean jacket, that's genius!! I can't wait to try it now! Also agree about it being a cool way to rework what you already have:)

The wet sheer look trend makes me excited bc I have loved the mermaidcore trend, and it was great when I dressed up for summer, but I was getting so nervous for fall and winter bc I didn’t know if I would be able to create that aesthetic in fall clothes, so it’s promising to me to see that high end and designers are still keeping it up, meaning hopefully I’ll see pieces that fit that aesthetic during fall and winter in my regular shopping stores

i loved this sm! love how you approach trend videos, this really felt like flicking through a magazine with a friend lol
also,if you let me, i taked to my mom and sister about the falling apart clothing trend lol and what i get from it is that, in opposition to the "very clean, brand new, straight out of a fast fashion brand, internet trend look" now there's the want to look like we've own these pieces for ages or even like we're buying vintage clothing. i feel like it makes it look less like you're buying into trends and following people, cause if you do, your clothes look new and recently bought. the falling apart looking clothes rather give you this allure of knowing what you like and like you've broken in your clothes lol and maybe also look like you have the means to afford vintage clothing that is usually broken in/falling apart, instead of only being able to afford fast fashion.
omg also, i think you're not even reaching with the knight/medieval looks, i totally see it!!aaaanywaaay, loved the video, Liz!

Omg yes, love that you are aware of abby
In history the silhouettes were created with the clothes and supportive undergarments. Nowadays we're expected to have the body built a certain way that "looks good" at any given decade or so.
Let's bring back proportions and leave behind the numbers please
People of different body shapes have and will always exist. Let's adjust our fashion senses to that fact instead of the other way

Totally agree on the sheer trend - it's so versatile and fun, I really like how different it can be styled)
And the medieval thing makes a lot of sense, and I hope you're right about it - it would be great to have more fairytale motives in everyday life)) I've also noticed a lot of dark and gothic gowns on the runway, which is a bit different time period, but falls in quite the same category to me.
Another thing I've noticed a lot are some strict/office pieces and full gowns, and I quite like it as for me it associates with empowerment))

My theory for “norm-y” clothes is that they serve to keep us comfortable, so if we’re at home or sleeping, or trying to keep calm and warm and rested, they should be, feel , look more “normal” but when at work, on the streets, on good social occasions that we should feel “uncomfortable” and out there, getting to know others and expanding horizons, I do think these more “unconventional”, artistic, creative forms of wear are more fit to the occasion :) thank you for your words!

In your mermaid core video you asked what fantasy creature fad would be next and I mentioned Nimona, I later realized shapeshifters would be a hard thing to inspire style, but maybe it can just go back to her monk punk style with the chainmail and leather tunic and more generally knight-core.

Forever a yes from me for any fantasy or history elements in trends~!! The medieval revival is amazing, makes me want to finally ask my mum to give me her red velvet cloak since I know for a fact that she will never wear it herself. And yes oh yes, if the knightcore-ish themes are finding their way to fashion! Also I'm loving the wet looking, shiny and metallic fabrics soooo much.
Always on board with sheer fabrics too. Even though I'm still having trouble trying to style that, since most of my sheer items are very fitted longsleeved tops and he weather is getting colder by the day :D BUT I did find this blue sheer old curtain and I want to try to turn it into mermaid-like long skirt~ It was in this small second hand shop I found with my mum and sibling on a trip this summer and they just basically told us to fill an IKEA bag with clothes and fabric for 5€ (aka $5,41 says the conversion tool). My picky self that never goes into these shops (I have the weirdest sensitive nose, when I was little my mum had to wash her friends' childrens' hand-me-down clothes at least 2 times before I would be convinced to wear them, no matter if I loved the item or not.) found that curtain and an old yellow gingham pillow cover that was falling apart on the other side for sewing purposes~ Then the rest of the time I spent pointing out stuff for my sibling to pick and see.
Oh, another ramble! I hope you enjoy reading your comments :DD Also, loving your fits in this video! It's so cool that you wear things that fit your talking points!^^

I think the assymetry and clothing that looks like it's falling apart is just a part of trend cycling. In the 2010s, especially the late 2010s everything felt more preppy and perfectionist and made to fit the body shape (think of the skinny jeans - they are designed to show off your body shape). Then the oversized trend started. Then more and more experimenting with figures, more careless looks also. So I think this is just a continuation of that and I love to see it!

    My opinions on each trend:
    1. (Sheer) It can be styled well. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either.
    2. (Hip and shoulder volume) seems interesting. I don’t like all of the outfits shown, but I don’t dislike the silhouette
    3. I hate low rise pants. So . Much. I think it is probably just my personal preference but I think it looks stupid. I like high waisted garments. As for drop waist dresses…I’m not sure how I feel about it
    4. (Asymmetry) I don’t have any strong opinions on it. It can look cool.
    5. (Falling apart clothing) no. I am dreading this becoming popular. I prefer looking put together. I do have some exceptions to that; for example, patchwork clothing looks cool
    6. (Wetness) seems strange and kind of pointless, but anyone can do what they want
    7. (Medieval/Knight Inspired) I HOPE SO. That’s an awesome idea

The falling off/apart look might not even have any deeper thoughts behind it, it might just be designers trying to come up with looks we haven't seen before

As for trending of items that seem to be falling apart I have a seed thought behind it. With resurgence of vintage there are few iconic pieces that didn't make it to our collections in a pristine condition but we adore them the same. I bought and overpaid a Dior Homme by Slimane trench from 2004 that has obviously been worn by homeless person for a while, then thrown to garbage, then salvaged and sold to me 😂. I took it to the excellent dry cleaner, he did what he could, no weird smell or nasty stains but it is obvious it is not new nor been treated well. I can't explain how special I feel when I wear it. It is on rare occasions, mostly on rainy days to notice shabbyness less, everything else is new and black, but the damn trench makes me glow with pride. It's like soldier coming back from war all destroyed but with a medal of honour. That kind of vibe. I hope I depicted the mood well.

Then...to add...The ruin of Partenon surpasses by far many things that are new and pristine. The ruin of Partenon is worth more than 10 Burj Khalifas...Same with shabby Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane trench. It is the partenon...Most of things churned out now are just Burj Khalifa.

I will share another trend prediction with you. So when you go to thrift shop and second hand you find a lot of pieces that fit great but colour or print is awful. For example excessive florals or multi colored stripes, tartans, paisley print. All in all tacky print in bad colorway. The trend will be to take the selected pieces and have them dyed all black and then make a look. Black will never be uniform black, original designs and patterns will come through as shades of gray. They will clash but it very subdued manner and it will look amazing. 😉

    • @mattbonanza9032

Next lever for ones who want more will be adding a screen print all white single logo or drawing or whatever on such died tshirt on front or on back. Inspo came from bricklayer I seen on street, who had, screen printed in white his company advertising on a classic tacky multi coloured striped polo shirts you buy at old men shops and wear for decades. Seeing this made my light bulb shine 😂

with the fraying/ falling apart trend - i watched a fantastic video essay about it but it was a while back so i can’t remember who made it SORRYYYY but they examined the recent-ish trend of rich people kinda cosplaying as poor???? and as the world economy ebbs and flows the rich alternate between flaunting their wealth and trying to relate to the peasants, both to win their favor to sell them stuff and to disguise themselves as “one of us” so they don’t get guillotined 🥴

The post apocalyptic times I think ties with the post modern movement so fashion designers are trying to reflect the culture, a la last of us, and many other apocalyptic media we as a society are now drawn towards

The tattered clothing trend just feels like high fashion trying to cosplay poverty to me. Especially now, with the current economic state, designers (and people wearing designer clothes) have a desire to "fit in" or just stand out less; subconsciously. When the recession of 07/08/09 happened, we saw an influx of brands "embracing" the ripped and tattered jeans trend. in mid 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic we saw a boom in "quiet luxury" trends too. At the end of the day, the working poor (lower-middle class) are the trendsetters. Because at the end of the day, we (the working poor) are the biggest economic class. And those in higher classes, whether they realize it or not, want to be us (aesthetically) because they view us as more genuine and "real."

    I have two suggestions..
    1. Make the images BIGGER.. and you do not have to be on screen. This is supposed to be about the FASHION. Not you.
    2. Make less "choppy" audios. They are annoying. Smoother transitions is key.
I like what you're talking about here.. but the ways you are displaying it.. has me so distracted, I am not able to continue watching the video.
