cEDH Kess Storm deck tech

- Kess is a master at piloting storm deck. With her ability to cast spells from your graveyard we can build a wheel deck where we fill our grave with rituals. Then use past in flames or yawgmoth's will to storm off. This is actually a rather common cEDH deck you could run into. A really fun deck to play too.
Kess is a really cool commander indeed. Her ability will definitely get stronger the more EDH cards wizard of the coast prints.

Kess storm wheel deck list
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/swamp... - Hry
Thanks for the Kess deck tech! Much appreciated!
Love the video! Please keep making great content like this! ❤️❤️❤️ I play both bubbling muck and high tide, but it works because neither of them cares if your lands are basic, so I include tons of swamp islands and also of course Urborg. Even if you only have 3 or 4 islands out casting high tide twice in one turn with Kess is pretty amazing
Oh yes please! My favorite deck and archetype
Amazing! Thank you so much. Wonderful deck tech and great insights
Perfect, my favorite commander, thanks :)
I own a Kess, but I go a little easy on her, very nice ideas, thank you!
This is a really cool deck! I would love a gameplay video of this!
Finally! My girl Kess is at the spotlight!
She deserves it. I think I will make more kess decks in the future. You can do a lot with her.
You have the best edh content!!
Thank you.
I was looking at your deck list and I noticed that Swan Song appears twice as two separate card entries and I didn't see Past in Flames
you can have urborg in the deck to make bubbling muck extra good right? you have it in your deck I see
Can you make a video discussing the cEDH Speed/Interactivity deck chart?
black is probably a lot easier to produce a lot of mana on with the coffers/urborg combo. Though I can understand why you would run both if you run urborg and tutor for it even.
Thanks for this! I personally prefer Yidris for storm as it can snowball quickly. What I don't like in Yidris is that counterspells are a nonbo with the cascade ability...
You are insane! I love your video's but i'm playing casual edh. I like looks your films and learn about EDH!
Glad I am helping out.
Would Time Spiral be good in Kess? I know the card is high cmc and not so popular but I could see it working in a grindy matchup.
Show de Bola !!
I play a casual yidris storm list that can finish with Aetherflux or Thousand-Year Storm and eye of storm where i play my whole deck on turn 4 or 5
I feel like this is a weaker version of consultation kess. You could also go kess doomsday if you are into the storm build.
I have already made a deck tech on consultation kess.
An interesting take on kess storm, never really considered the waste not and bubbling muck idea I must try it out.
I hope it dose well for you.
I run kess storm and mizzix mastery has out preformed yawgmoths will for me. You should consider it.
Yuriko went Doomsday and I was trying to figure out a good storm shell for Kess, perfect timing :D
I guess it's kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released movies online?
@Nathan Quinn Flixportal :P
@Jonas Colt thank you, signed up and it seems like a nice service :) Appreciate it!!
@Nathan Quinn you are welcome =)
Underworld breach breaks this even more :') outside of you wheeling it of course
Yes its a great upgrade for this deck.
There's another reason why Bubbling Muck is better than High Tide, imo.
Along with Crypt Ghast (which you already showed), there's also Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers. There's other ways to take advantage of having Swamps for ramp, while High Tide is pretty much the only card that takes advantage of Islands for this purpose.
There's also a few other cards that care about having swamps, though most of these aren't good enough for the deck. Generally though, if you have the choice, Bubbling Muck is better because there's more things that synergise with having swamps and that opens more options.
Well said. But I am not sure I will add in cabal coffers.
I realized you can narsets reversal the card you “flashback” with kess, and get the card into hand. You can DT, then DT from kess then narsets reversal DT then cast DT then kess DT.
Seth Masters I’m sorry what
Josh Cross Kess doesnt exile the card you “flashback” therefore you can do somthing with the spell that makes it not enter the graveyard, saving it from going into the graveyard preventing Kess’s exile it clause. So cards like unsubstantiate, remand, Narsets Reversal, Venser, ect. They dont counter the card they return the card to your hand, preventing the card you cast from being exiled. Narsets reversal copies the spell, then returns the spell to your hand. So yoy get to DT from Reversal copy, but your DT that you cast (Demonic Tutor) from your graveyard from Kess goes to your hand instead of exile. Then you can cast it from hand and from graveyard again. Which is 4 DT’s, or what ever you need like Yag will or what ever. Flashback, like from snapcastermage and past in flames exile the card you cast from graveyard regardless of what happens to it, which Kess doesnt do, so you can exploit Kess’s ability.
Anyway, the video is perfect, audio very good, grafically very good and content very good too. I wonder what is your favorite commander? 😊
Sisay weatherlight captain! I love five-colored decks. I love toolbox. And my favorit character in the MTG lore, belive it or not. Is actually sisay. So for me, she is the best commander ever!
I used to play with kess
No mention of gush/ doomsday or consultation/ labman. But it goes without saying.
I have already made a deck tech on consultation kess.
What about time spiral? And Baral and electromancer to reduce costs?
I don't play it because I wanna utilize ad nauseam more. But it is a card you could add in. And in general, I am not going to have 6 lands to untapp.
So my storm deck I've built is kykar winds fury...do you recomend kess or kykar for my first cedh list?
I would recommend kess before Kykar. Kess will be a better deck and easier to build.
The extra mana from the spirits won't help storm off better? I'd call my current kykar deck like a 7 or 8 out of ten...it has won on turn 5/6 multiple times without interaction but it's no where near cedh...but those spirits go a long way mana wise especially with annointed procession or a altar...maybe I'm just talking like a casual player but I have played but cedh yet...but I do want to make a cedh list and I want it to me spell slinger storm...if that's possible that is...so you recomend kess over kykar for this? If so that's fine I can keep kykar as my casual storm deck and build kess for competitive games
I have seen a lot of kess storm decks perform really well. So I can say with certainty that it will work for you. I have only heard kykar in theory so I can't guarantee anything. I am sure it will work fine and be a good deck. But if this is your first cEDH deck I think kess is better. I would research and build kykar after.
Okay sir thank you for actually replying to a question I had I appreciate it a lot I'll build it and try it out online before putting big money into it just in case ya know? Ha but is annointed procession bad in a cedh deck? Or would it be okay for me once I learn the cedh gameplay and build my own deck
Yes! Kess is Bae
Bolas's Citadel is another AMAZING card in Kess even if it is expensive and a slight build around. My favorite card in my Kess deck is Incrasing Vengance. Three total copies of any instant or sorcerey for two mana? Yes plz
Lol. Dude, you contradicted yourself in the very first sentence.
3:00 this part feels real good now that yawgmoth's will isn't optimal anymore
How budget friendly would you say this deck is? I already have vamp and demonic tutor, mana crypt, chrome mix and grim monolith.
It could be built on a budget I guess. Should be possible. But I think you wanna have the expensiv rocks tho. And you kinda got them.
@@cedhtv do you think timetwister not being in a kess storm deck harms the deck a lot or is it not a big deal?
I used to play the hell out of kess, pretty much a very similar build, notion theif, waste not, ad nauseam. The deck was nasty af
There are far more black rituals as well
Storming into mizzix mastery is also really easy
Urborg tho?
Just make all your lands swamps to always be tapping for multiple mana with bubbling muck, seems good enough to warrent the slot.
There is an urborg in their. Can't guarantee that you will get it tho.
@@cedhtv that's fair.
I feel like as long as Demonic Consultation is a card, there's only really one way to build her at the max power if you're putting money into your deck. It's a shame because I like the concept of the ability, but it just has too much synergy with Lab Man wins. I just stick to Kykar and now Elsha for the mid power storm concept.
Agreed, Kess is just too much of a slam dunk for Consultation. Jeleva however is a fantastic Grixis Storm commander since she can be bounced and replayed to mill everyone out as a wincon
you know how you did a video on how to fix boros? could you do one about voltron and what is currently the closest one to being cedh viable? ps: "oh what a cool and interesting deck i wounder how much it cost *clicks link* *sound of being winded by a punch in the gut*"
hehe. I actually have made that video already. Here you go. I hope you like it. Let me know what you think. czcams.com/video/wsAkWIo_IcM/video.html
Isn't Necropotence against Kess?
Is yidris still viable??
Yes, he definitely is. A different storm deck. Quit different play style.
hey is this still up to date ?
Don't think soo. But it is a budget deck so. I think wishclaw should be in there but it isen't if you want an example.
your description says less, not kess
Wait, if everything goes in the graveyard, why not adding mizzix’s mastery with past in flames and yawgmoth’s will? The cards are copied and you literally cast the copy (so get triggers). It‘s more expensive, but you cast the instant/sorcery for free, including yawgmoth’s will if it ends up in the graveyard, for exemple.
8 mana is a lot! It could work. I guess I could add it to the maybeboard.
cEDH TV indeed 8 mana is a lot, but I do prefer “mizzix’s mastery” over “past in flame” because the latter actually need more mana, you have to cast those cards. Which means if you have only 8 mana, you cast at best 4 instants/sorceries (4 mana for past in flame, than 4 cards that cost 1) of course, usually it’s used to cast one or two specific cards to combo or to respond a treath. On the other hand, Mizzix’s exile all the cards and make you cast their copy for free, so there’s no limit to the number of cards you cast with those 8 mana.
You gotta start picking better thumbnails lol. You always grab one where you making a goofy face 😉😂
- love, Dad.
I only have goofy face pictures ... hehehe
@@cedhtv fair enough, son.
😁
Does muck work with urborg?
I think so?
Each land is a swamp in addition too.
I don't see why not but I'm no judge so idk details
There's no need for it. But urborg seems bad. Why allow your opponent to go plus?
@@iAMtunaFISH it's not plus....... it just makes lands being able to tap for black as well..........
@@chrispy6953 it's baaaaaad. I play cEDH. I have trouble getting black bc I have so much blue. Please help me hard cast necropotance. Please help me cast doomsday. Please make my fetches extra broken with top. Thanks.
@@iAMtunaFISH gitrog can shut down most blue decks due to speed and urborg is good because of how many mono blue babies that don't need black.
You don't need to use urborg to hard cast spells like those, Necro isn't even good in cedh and nobody plays doomsday anymore.
You thought urborg gave extra Mana..
You obviously are a good MTG player who knows the game extensively
And nobody uses Top for cedh. It's too slow..
Hear me out. Kess Land destruction
I am listening :)
No need for Kess. I alreday have a Zada Storm deck. *Keepo*

You can't run Crypt Ghast as it has a white symbol in its text...
False, the white mana is included in the extort ability, not in the text of the card itself.
@@uliseshernando4676 The Extort ability is still text on the card therefore it counts.
Text is still text.
@@usernameunidentified175 "A special case is the hybrid mana symbol on creatures with the Extort ability. It is considered part of the reminder text, not part of the rules text, so it doesn't determine color identity."

Reminder text is not relevant for color identity. You can run a mone black extort deck.
