cEDH Kess Storm deck tech

  • Kess is a master at piloting storm deck. With her ability to cast spells from your graveyard we can build a wheel deck where we fill our grave with rituals. Then use past in flames or yawgmoth's will to storm off. This is actually a rather common cEDH deck you could run into. A really fun deck to play too.
    Kess is a really cool commander indeed. Her ability will definitely get stronger the more EDH cards wizard of the coast prints.

    Love the video! Please keep making great content like this! ❤️❤️❤️ I play both bubbling muck and high tide, but it works because neither of them cares if your lands are basic, so I include tons of swamp islands and also of course Urborg. Even if you only have 3 or 4 islands out casting high tide twice in one turn with Kess is pretty amazing

  • @Tacklepig

    There's another reason why Bubbling Muck is better than High Tide, imo.
    Along with Crypt Ghast (which you already showed), there's also Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers. There's other ways to take advantage of having Swamps for ramp, while High Tide is pretty much the only card that takes advantage of Islands for this purpose.
    There's also a few other cards that care about having swamps, though most of these aren't good enough for the deck. Generally though, if you have the choice, Bubbling Muck is better because there's more things that synergise with having swamps and that opens more options.

  • @sethmasters2147

    I realized you can narsets reversal the card you “flashback” with kess, and get the card into hand. You can DT, then DT from kess then narsets reversal DT then cast DT then kess DT.

      Seth Masters I’m sorry what

    • @sethmasters2147
      @sethmasters2147 Před 4 lety +2

      Josh Cross Kess doesnt exile the card you “flashback” therefore you can do somthing with the spell that makes it not enter the graveyard, saving it from going into the graveyard preventing Kess’s exile it clause. So cards like unsubstantiate, remand, Narsets Reversal, Venser, ect. They dont counter the card they return the card to your hand, preventing the card you cast from being exiled. Narsets reversal copies the spell, then returns the spell to your hand. So yoy get to DT from Reversal copy, but your DT that you cast (Demonic Tutor) from your graveyard from Kess goes to your hand instead of exile. Then you can cast it from hand and from graveyard again. Which is 4 DT’s, or what ever you need like Yag will or what ever. Flashback, like from snapcastermage and past in flames exile the card you cast from graveyard regardless of what happens to it, which Kess doesnt do, so you can exploit Kess’s ability.

    • @cedhtv

    • @thewhitehotd1172
      @thewhitehotd1172 Před 4 lety +1

      The extra mana from the spirits won't help storm off better? I'd call my current kykar deck like a 7 or 8 out of ten...it has won on turn 5/6 multiple times without interaction but it's no where near cedh...but those spirits go a long way mana wise especially with annointed procession or a altar...maybe I'm just talking like a casual player but I have played but cedh yet...but I do want to make a cedh list and I want it to me spell slinger storm...if that's possible that is...so you recomend kess over kykar for this? If so that's fine I can keep kykar as my casual storm deck and build kess for competitive games

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 4 lety +1

      I have seen a lot of kess storm decks perform really well. So I can say with certainty that it will work for you. I have only heard kykar in theory so I can't guarantee anything. I am sure it will work fine and be a good deck. But if this is your first cEDH deck I think kess is better. I would research and build kykar after.

    Wait, if everything goes in the graveyard, why not adding mizzix’s mastery with past in flames and yawgmoth’s will? The cards are copied and you literally cast the copy (so get triggers). It‘s more expensive, but you cast the instant/sorcery for free, including yawgmoth’s will if it ends up in the graveyard, for exemple.

    • @cedhtv
      @cedhtv  Před 4 lety +1

      8 mana is a lot! It could work. I guess I could add it to the maybeboard.

    • @ilianceroni
      @ilianceroni Před 4 lety

      cEDH TV indeed 8 mana is a lot, but I do prefer “mizzix’s mastery” over “past in flame” because the latter actually need more mana, you have to cast those cards. Which means if you have only 8 mana, you cast at best 4 instants/sorceries (4 mana for past in flame, than 4 cards that cost 1) of course, usually it’s used to cast one or two specific cards to combo or to respond a treath. On the other hand, Mizzix’s exile all the cards and make you cast their copy for free, so there’s no limit to the number of cards you cast with those 8 mana.
