Emry, Lurker of the Loch Deck Tech | Beezy's Personal Deck

  • Emry, Lurker of the Loch is one nasty commander! This deck is aiming to self-mill until all cards (except one) are left, and then completely steamroll everyone else at the table by doing a lot of infinite things. This is Beezy's personal deck, and it is conclusively not lame at all and is in fact amazing and awesome.

    Love this deck with a passion. Made mine a few months ago and emry is so much fun especially with her "affinity for artifacts" effect. There's an artifact from original mirrodin that turns lands into islands that I love running so much!

      The best part is neither of those work either. Nexus of Fate is dumb.
      "When multiple replacement effects want to modify the same event, the affect object (Nexus of Fate)’s controller will choose which effect to apply first. Once one of these effects has been applied, the other no longer applies since the card is no longer going to your graveyard."
      Ashiok won't have a chance to exile Nexus either, because the shuffling isn't a trigger and actually happens before the exiling of graveyards. Mwahaha!
      Pretty much the only way I can conceive to stop Nexus is counterspells like Dissipate and Force of Negation, and Praetor's Grasp and cards like that. And then we counter those spells and watch opponents cry

    Interesting take on emry.
    I took the route of comboing off and wining wining by milling out other people or creating a huge arcbound ravager or aetherflux reservoir. You get it.

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  Před 4 lety

      It's really a Nexus of Fate deck, but I think Emry is the best general for it by a lot though. The four cards milled really add up from casting her and it can give opponents the tough choice of letting me cast a spell from my yard every turn or milling four and thinning out my deck even more.

    Emry has the potential of setting off so many combos as win cons. You can also draw out your deck if you have lotus petal, Sai Master Thopterist and an untap etb effect like Mirran Spy with Emry on the field. This combo gives infinite draw, infinite thoptors and infinte any mana. I was lucky enough to have those cards in my starting hand :D

  • @bobbyfasciano4137
    @bobbyfasciano4137 Před 4 lety +5

    4:30 Conspiracy Theory Time: Walking Atlas was released in world wake, the set before the colorless but not artifact Eldrazi. What if Wizards wanted to hint at the Eldrazis appearance next set, so they made this card to be some pseudo-eldrazi thing, but then somewhere along the way in development they decided to just make it an artifact, changing the border but forgetting to change the text? Probably not what happened but a man can dream.

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  Před 4 lety +2

      That's probably pretty spot-on, but it could also just be that with a lot of non artifact colorless cards in the next set they just missed it.Either way, keep dreaming Bobby

      @thunderwolf4124 Před 4 lety

      Nitpicking Nerds Warning be careful adding the cards I am talking about because it pushes emry close to cedh. other ways to go infinite with emry include chakram retriever or mirran spy with a self sacrificing 0 costed artifact makes infinite storm, brain freeze to mill yourself, grinding station also helps, nexus is okay but I like replacing it with walking ballista and stonecoil serpent to help against creature decks also aetherflux is a excelent combo epic / life gain card when you get taxed a ton. Spell skits helps with targeted removal on emry . Shimmer myr is an all star in the deck with pithing needle to allow for on demand shut down on commanders or other problematic activated abilities. If you want to be really nasty you can add mind slaver and lock your opponents of playing the game but not advised for most playgroups.

    • @thunderwolf4124
      @thunderwolf4124 Před 4 lety

      Also emry decks tend to go down two routes from what I see a artifact creature build trying to use kci and myr retriever loop from modern or a low costed bauble mana rock build trying to mill , storm, or drawing your library

    Love the channel ya'll! It would be pretty cool if you put up the multiple card images when you're talking about with combo's or things that interrupt them for a bit longer/more often. I understand if it adds too much editing and I love seeing you're faces! But as a newer player it'd help a lot to have those on screen when you're not as familiar with the cards. Even if they're smaller or towards the bottom. Still love the channel and ranking every commander is a work of art!

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  Před 4 lety +1

      It's definitely not a deck you can play for an entire game night. It's good once or with higher power decks, because while you are frequently interacting, every interaction can boil down to "does this kill me?" If yes, stop it, if no, completely ignore it

    Love the deck tech, as much as I'd love to build it I don't think it would play well in my group. Two of the players play very heavy graveyard hate decks. Would there be a viable way to get around it? One of them plays a version of Lord Windgrace that bounces land like crazy and they bounce their Bojuka Bog constantly to blow up graveyards to keep them in check.

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  Před 4 lety +2

      Golden Egg is a little pricey to replace itself, whereas the Baubles do it for free, and while the deck loves to have Emry out and will often be playing her, I don't think the Stone helps the main game plan of just ripping through our deck as fast as possible. I do think Mind Stone is a little weak I wonder what a replacement could be for it!

    It’s so weird to see an Emry deck that doesn’t have Mirran Spy OR Charkram Retriever. I wanted to see what others were doing. My easiest combos are with those and Emry. Can draw down with many many baubles, make a ton of mana with Lotus Petal, if you’ve got any of the things that trigger when you cast an artifact like the mage thing that draws a card when you cast an artifact or makes a thopter or myr when you cast an artifact…

    That's what I hate about lab man, that Jace, nexus of fate and Thassa's Oracle. It's SO easy to mill through your own deck (esp. In mono blue) that it ends up being how you win every game. I had to take Jace out of my Unesh deck because it became "can you stop Jace? I win."

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  Před 4 lety +2

      @jakeapplegate6642 Před 4 lety

      It has the drawback that you are not really affecting the boardstate while you mill yourself and if someone makes you shuffle your graveyard into your library you have to start over. Honestly I think it is kinda fun to race to the bottom of your deck.

      @@psychozen7169 remember you always have access to Urza if he's your commander. I've got Sliver Overlord in my First Sliver deck, but switching them out doesn't work too well because the deck is built around chaining through multiple sliver casts and churn through the deck. Spending 3 mana to search a specific sliver, cast it, and only getting that 1 sliver is fine, but my deck instead casts 1 sliver, gets about 3-4 slivers, as well as abusing 0 mana suspend cards to cascade into at the bottom end.
      You've got to see if your deck is built around having Urza out or if Urza compliments the deck and Emry could equally fill that role
