    Thanks for watching! We did make a slight error in this deck tech - Elemental Resonance doesn't work the way that I thought it did because you are still the aura's controller, so you get the mana. That makes it a much less good piece, but you can replace it with some kind of mana ramp or another mana sink. Everything else works as intended though! - Peter

    A thing to note about war's toll. It is effectively a "may' ability. As you are the one tapping the mana, but they then in response can tap the lands for their mana. But your opponent might decide to not do that. So they tap the 3 mana they need for the spell, then just let you tap all their lands. They don't get burned, but ensure your opponents never have standing mana to mess with you is a potent effect.

    I love this commander, it's the kind of design I really enjoy!
    Your deck techs are always on point, but may i suggest Scavenging Ooze for this one, maybe instead of Klothys? It's a mana sink, life-gainer, graveyard-hate piece, that easily grows into a threat with all of your green mana. It doesn't trigger enchantresses, though. But if that's a matter of concern, Tymaret, Chosen by Death does.

    I'm pretty sure this combo also works.
    (Yurlok + Seeker of Skybreak + Rings of Brighthearth)
    Spend one mana to activate Yurlok and produce BRG, tap Seeker and use two of that mana to copy Seeker's untap ability with Rings to untap both Seeker and Yurlok. You now have that remaining 1 mana to start the process over again. Repeat until your opponents have a million mana in their pools.

      ashaya might be fun if you have creature tutoring. add in argothian elder and leyweaver to tap and untap yurlock and itself since they count as forests to generate infinite aman and utaps. just have a mana sink ready. in regards to mana sinks some of them had too high of a mana cost to sink so i'd try to stick with 1-3 mana ones since you can probably do cooler things with 4 plus mana. I went with nylea keen eyed and erebos god of the dead(which i like better than vortex so i can gain life off of exquisite blood). But i like your enchantress idea i may swap out some punish creatures left over from my Klothys group slug that i'm building into this. be careful with too many mana gifting effects they can use on their turn a few early plays I just helped them get to board states i couldn't handle.

  • @altromonte15
    @altromonte15 Před 3 lety +3

    I was considering building this, and then I realized what an incredible pain in the ass keeping track of 3 different types of mana given to 4 different players +mana doubles + everything else every turn would be.
    Every turn would be "Ok you have your mana, but also RGB, 4G from this, 2 uncolor from that, and I double your lands, and-"
    It sounds horrible to play.

    I haven't been able to play it yet, because yeah, 2020 everybody, but I think I did something interesting with Yurlok, as I built my deck as a discard deck. Guess when you don't have to worry that your opponents use the mana on instants? When they don't have cards in hand!

  • @Ebonyks
    @Ebonyks Před 3 lety +2

    I'm a little confused about your build and how yurlock works. My understanding is mana burn damage takes place at end of phase, rather than end of turn. Because of this, it triggers effects like belbe if yurlock is tapped pre combat. This enables approaches that weren't discussed in the video, such as utilizing neheb, the eternal for massive mana generation.

  • @phil4459
    @phil4459 Před 3 lety +1

    I don't think the "taps all lands" cards work the way you think they do. Isn't ist so that there lands just become tapped without giving them mana?

    But nice deck! :)

    i have a question about your moxfield link.
    I've never used moxfield but went on to it to check what the price of this deck would be, but it seems like your channel has either added the most expensive version of sol ring, or the most expensive version is the default. Like, why? if the site did it on its own, then no worries, but if y'all did it that just seems like a dumb thing to do. Did you just want to flex that you had a really expensive sol ring? It's just really frustrating because now I have to go through each card individually to see what the cheapest option available is for each printing when y'all could have done it as you were making the list in the first place.

  • @brosephstalin4217
    @brosephstalin4217 Před 3 lety +1

    I don't think War's Toll work in the way it feels like it should work. I think the tapping of the lands doesn't produce the mana, which is nice since you keep people from casting spells in the phases after they first cast a spell, but I don't think the mana burn would really do much, since a player can spend 5 minutes figuring out how much mana they need and then tap those in response to the War's Toll trigger.

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s a good point. I think it’s still a valuable piece to lock them out of the colors that they need to cast spells on other people’s turns, but you’re right that it doesn’t necessarily guarantee mana burn if they play their hand right.

    im confused about cards like 'war's toll'. it just says to tap all their lands, but does it actually activate the lands' mana ability? seems like it wouldn't. when you tap a creature it's ability doesn't automatically trigger so why would a lands? seems like most people play it that way though....

    How does Shizuko, Caller of Autumn work in this deck if it specifically says "This mana doesn't cause mana burn?"

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  Před 3 lety +1

      Yurlok doesn’t cause mana burn, he just makes you lose life when mana empties your mana pool. So when the mana leaves at end of turn, Yurlok still applies! - Peter

  • @WilhalmBrion
    @WilhalmBrion Před 3 lety +1

    So I’ve been looking at blood moon effects recently. Not just for red but for black too with infernal darkness and contamination. Do you think there’s a world where this deck runs all 4? Or is that just asking too much of a 3 color general?

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  Před 3 lety

      I think there is a world where those blood moon effects make a good combination with Yurlok. The tricky thing that I ran into while building this deck is that the more we prevent our opponents from casting spells, the harder it will be to make them add mana to their mana pool, and I didn’t include too many blood moon/other Stax pieces because of that. But if you want to lean more heavily into Stax then I did, I think that’s the right approach.

    Wouldnt Shizuko be counterproductive cuz she says "This doesnt cause manaburn" and the mana doesnt faze out

    • @CommandValley
      @CommandValley  Před 3 lety

      It's close to counterproductive, but the mana doesn't fade until end of turn, and Yurlok doesn't say "mana burn", he has a specific effect. So Shizuko's ability isn't affected by Yurlok's, and when the mana dissipates at the end of their turn, they'll be hit with Yurlok's trigger. Great question! - Peter
