Kiku Explains the Willow World to Blackthorne - Scene | Shōgun | FX
/ fxnetworks - Zábava
"It must only be you."
Kiku is kind of a real one here; she knows how bad Marino wants to act on what she’s feeling and Kiku is really setting her up to be in an environment where she could feel a little safer acting on it.
What an absolutely brilliant piece of dialogue. Truly outstanding.
The cinematography, too. This show is a masterwork.
yeah...not bad.
Kiku must have realized the relationship between Mariko and Anjin. However, in those days, adultery was punishable by death. This is a very powerful scene that expresses Mariko's complex emotions.
Yes, adultery was serious enough that in the novel Toranaga privately hopes that Buntaro has no proof of such an affair, since if he did he would need to kill him, as he needs Blackthorne and Mariko more than he needs Buntaro.
The actress who played Kiku really did a good job but Anna Sawai's performance as Mariko is really really good she made me really like the character.
There is a moment where Mariko stops translating Kiku's word as "she" and decides consciously to say "I",and thus expresses her own true feelings. At that moment the scene immediately transforms. This show achieves moments of pure adrenaline and profound beauty in a way very few ever have.
That was Kiku's intention. That was why she moved behind Mariko (from Anjin's perspective) before giving the 'explanation.'
@@JimTempleman Exactly. I think it's important that there is a fellowship amongst the women of this society. They all bear the burden of the men around them. They use them as pawns in their political schemes or just simply abuse them. In this Willow World, she can sense much more than just the needs of men, but also precisely identifies Mariko's suffering and provides a brief escape from it. I was happy to learn in episode 7 that Anjin was also affected by this moment of honesty and stayed faithful to Mariko.
however, their affection for each other went to an end at EP9. Toronaga knew all along that when Mariko die inside Ishido's castle, most elite and high ranks officials will side to Toranaga.
That's why Mariko "should die". Anyway, it's been a long awaited death. Feel sorry for John Blackthorne. I was on the edge of my seat when John approached Mariko to second her.
My dilemma is.... how will they squeeze all the story and plot in less than an hour last episode?
- Beheading of Yabushige branded as a traitor.
- Return of Blackthorne to Edo
- Confrontation between John and Toronaga
- Preparation of war of both sides
- The actual battle.
@@rodolfodizon6485 I would be surprised (& delighted) to see the actual battle.
It wasn't developed in the book or the 1980's miniseries.
So Kiku speaks on Mariko behalf through Mariko’s translation.
Not to mention Mariko stops summarizing what Keku is saying and instead starts translating word for word.
@@Ugh-Fudge_Bwana- is this like sentient AI?
This scene remind me of that famous Blade Runner 2049 scene
Kiku clearly is a student of the human heart and understands that Mariko is trapped in her allegiance to duty, but also has her own hidden passions and affections. Kiku in effect gives Mariko a means to voice those passions without revealing herself. Her invitation to Mariko to "join" is as if to say, I will be your proxy. Blackthorne for all his brashness, softly touches Mariko's hands as if to say this touch, this affection I reserve for you.
Yes, I believe it is.
Mariko's translation changed from 1:34 she used "she" to refers Kiku and then in 1:47 she used "I" like Mariko talked about herself.
This dialogue is such a great nod to concept of the 8 fold fence. Behind those layers is an unspoken passion, barely revealed, contained and hidden, a private realm which Mariko barely hints at.
The angst! The yearning! These two are killing me!
This scene is an absolute masterpiece. I don't know why but I have watched it countless times ❤
You know why. It's because of Kiku
They're both beautiful 😍. Aside from that it is also just an amazing scene as well.
This is my favourite scene in the whole series, this feels different in some ways unknown.
Me too, best scene of show..
This scene is so well crafted too
Well the show generally is well crafted 💪💪💪💪💪
The flashback was her retreating into her 8 fold fence. 😢
That makes sense! I was wondering why they showed that flashback during a very romantic and sexually charged moment. I figured it was because she couldn't contain herself anymore as she was being forced to break down her fences and was releasing a whole lot of emotions. But it makes more sense that she's using those memories to remind herself of duty and retreat into the 8 fold fence. Brilliant.
I can't stop watching this scene. It's so beautiful.
It's much better in the novel.
I love how this scene was shot, it’s similar to the one where he speaks to Toranaga, I’ll explain: in that scene, the interpreters begin having a level of focus and presence in the shots, but, after a while and after the two are fully in sync, they both are the sole figures in the frames, showcasing that they were now actually talking to each other and acknowledging one another to the fullest.
Here, there’s a twist, Mariko completely obscures Kiku and appears all by herself while Kiku talks, that’s because Kiku isn’t really the one saying these things, it’s Mariko expressing her feelings through her even if she didn’t explicitly gave an order for this, Kiku could just tell what was up, and, as she said, she couldn’t bear to see her miserable, hence, she said the things Mariko herself couldn’t utter.
This show is something else, the soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful, the costumes are very accurate and incredibly pretty, the acting is out of this world, the writing is ingenious and senseful and the cinematography for a scene like this one completely understands what should be conveyed and how. I wish for this show to set an example of what quality TV is so that others follow suit, I also wish for the series to win countless awards.
Does anyone else just want Mariko to be happy?
This scene was deeply haunting. Still gives me goosebumps.
The moment his hand brushes hers reminds me of when Mr. Darcy's hand brushes Elizabeth's as she gets into the carriage in Pride and Prejudice. You can feel the connection between them.
Whoah! I did not know there is a remake of Shogun. I was obsessed with the book and miniseries in the 80's
I Love Kiku
I love the characters of this show , each one of them is so unique . The writters know what the characters think . I can't wait to watch the next episode ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️ . I hope Shōgun win some Emmy awards ⚔️⚔️⚔️
I hope they’d know
This show is filled with such moments. Brilliant story telling! This entire production top down deserves awards and recognition
Yuka Kouri is amazing. Her performance is sublime. While Anna Sawai is brilliant, one cannot help be moved.
this scene moved me to tears
This is such a wonderful scene for a masterpiece of a series I hope they will do the other book.
The eyes of Mariko and John. Pure heartbreak, yearning - with the sensuality of the Willow World as but a backdrop. 😢💔
what an inherently sexy scene created just by great dialogue, the yearning expressed by them, great stuff
🥺 the performances of these Japanese actors and actresses is just beyond brilliant but Anna Sawai IS Mariko….I was moved when I saw the first Shogun from 1980 and this takes it even higher. 👏👏👏👌 I hope the awards will be poring down on the cast and the Show 👌🤞
The yearning and the sexual tension... I've never seen a hot scene where there is zero physical intimacy, this is just whoa 🤯
Find me another scene that doesn't have such extreme sexual tension.....that was a masterpiece of desire right there.
This is a Master Class and brilliant!!
kiku is so cute
this remind me of blade runner. when the ai and repica merge scene and the speeching to your soul desire as in Cyberpunk as u go in to doll house.
this is absolute masterpiece
the more i watch this scene
the more i admire it ❤❤💯💯
When this scene started, I thought it to be three people trapped in their circumstance. Now I see there was only one who is free, and that's Kiku. She knew her place and her role in the world. She was neither upset nor angry. Instead, she serves to please her master who in turn looks after her. And she also serves to help the two of them to be free from whatever bothers them in the real world.
i love it this scene
Amazing scene, superb.
Masterpiece
Gila ini scene luar biasa... Sudut pandang & cinematograpy nya keren, dibungkus dgn dialog dan setting yg cantik...
Good job for series❤
Everytime Kiku is shown, there's always a sexual tension. She has a very seductive presence...
@ 0:04, the pulchritudinous Lady Kiku who wears the red kimono is portrayed by Japanese actress Yuka Kouri.
If only there was a six syllable word for beautiful, but alas we must content ourselves with a a five syllable one.
What a dialogue what a script perfection 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 am very sad it's just miniseries 😢😢😢😢
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yuka kouri acting is good
This scene remind me of that famous Blade Runner 2049 scene
It’s so beautiful and heartbreaking. And even sexy, even though it’s just words
The actress player The Lady would make a perfect Tiffa.

Mariko when botaro "dies":😄
Mariko when she is with anjin:😊
Mariko when botaro comes back:🤬

Kiku will become Blackthorne's wife..😊
Blackthorne didn't sleep with Kiku. His love for Mariko is so strong.
In the book I think he does, he actually ends up marrying Kiku
He did. He spent the whole night with her. Blackthorne became fond of Kiku and liked her very much. He was also aware of Omi's jealousy they nearly had a fight when he brought her up. In the end he married Kiku and Omi went back to his wife.
@@danix4883 Yes he did in the book.
@@einezcrespo2107 yup, one of the things I wish the show demonstrated more of was Blackthorn’s relationship with Kiku
Although ``SHOGUN'' itself is fiction, it is based on historical events and figures.
Mariko is based on Akechi Tamako or Hosokawa Gracia, daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide.
Mitsuhide was serving Oda Nobunaga, but he rebelled and assassinated Nobunaga.
Soon after the death of Nobunaga, Mitsuhide was defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who unified Japan after that.
With Hideyoshi's intercession, Hosokawa Tadaoki, Tamako's husband, kept her under surveillance in Osaka. Until then, Tamako had believed in Zen Buddhism, but Catholicism captivated her and she converted.
The way he touches her hand when she leaves though, ughhh 💔
2:22 Mariko started getting all hot and bothered 😅
I don't know why some think this was a "masterclass," scene. It was supposed to be nice relaxing, fun evening turned out to be a patronizing male bashing. Blackthorne was a gentleman to Kiku in the book and the 80's version not the nervous wreck here and she was polite and entertaining. I get it was to highlight the sexual tension between the two leads but Kiku wouldn't risk her house or her employers reputation by pushing both Blackthorne and Mariko to act out their desires. The book was far more subtle with this scene.
????
สาวญี่ปุ่น ทำไมใส่เเต่เสื้อผ้าตัวเดิมๆครับ ทุกฉากเลย ผู้ชายยังเห็นอาบน้ำอยู่ ยิ่งอันจินบ่อยมาก
2:00 Sigh... The Anjin looking like a skinnier version of Seth Rogen ruined this scene for me.
What is going on with this show?? On CZcams TV the show started in 4K then dropped to 1080p now dropped to 720p with no other options. Being in 720p is unacceptable and should not be used for any current TV show.
Why not? You can still see it.
Less talking more banging

What was an entertaining and interesting experience in the book becomes an evening of darkness and boredom in this series. The last thing Kiku should be doing is boring him with the meaning of a Japanese brothel. Kiku is poorly cast, and no comparison with the book.
