It's amazing quite how boring Corgi made this casting look. It was a Le Mans racer of the 70s, a runner in Daytona, a piece of Ferrari and sports car history! With it's clear dark red on top of a silver base, plain discoloured white interior piece, number six sticker, and little n' large wheels, to me it came across as incredibly dull.
My aim was to improve this. The Ferrari 512 S was a racer developed in response to Porsche's 917. Enzo Ferrari even went as far as selling 50% of his company to Fiat to bankroll the cars development. Unfortunately for Ferrari, it had a difficult life. Of ten races during the 1970 World Sportscar Championship season, Porsche won nine of them. A 512 did managed to bag a win in the 12 Hours of Sebring though to break Porsche's streak.
I based my custom on the number 16 entry from Scuderia Filipinetti in the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans race. While most 512 entries in the race were the coda lunga longtail 512 varients, the number 16 stuck to the original closed cockpit recipe. Sadly, this car failed to finish due to technical issues, but despite this lack of success, it is well remembered for being a truly stunning looking racecar. Hopefully I did it justice.

Fantastic custom on the model. The decals on racing cars are always very detailed and fiddly to apply.

I know I am a bit harsh on it, but I think with a brighter red and maybe more than just a single number sticker it could have been so much more! But in fairness it was a great base to work on
