Didnt they 'earn' it by breaking the law?
How else would one 'earn' probation? After a jail sentence? Thats called release.
Im just genuinely confused as to how this would work.
Probation is a punishment, handed out for a crime... Same as a jail setence or a fine would be.

Yup!!!!! I work in alcohol probation ( contractor) , when I get them, I can't dump them, the buck stops with me, but I sure as heck can make their lives miserable trying get their driver license back. Someone like that can take years. I don't do anything to them, I let them do it to themselves. In extreme cases the company will dump them, except they are too worried about the profit margin to do it. I complained three times about one client who puts on a show just like this guy, he pulled his crap one day and $3000 said stop this place is unsafe and put my car back together. And they still didn't dump him.

Was he going on about a previous incarceration where he got shanked (probably deserved it) and then when he got on probation he committed 4 felonies and a misdemeanor. Started his appearance with the Honorable Judge Stevens by verbally abusing his defense attorney and more than likely most of the jail staff. Skip the trial and give him 30 years for the probation violations and then whatever he would get for the remaining cases, to make sure he understands that you don't mess with the staff of a judge give him 180 days for contempt of court to run consecutivly to all the other consecutive charges.

I always understood it as “if you think that’s how this is going to going work, you have another thing coming” as in: the thing/event you think will happen won’t happen, but another thing/event will.
So it made sense to me that it would be “another thing coming.” That ‘thing’ for me was usually a whoopin’ 😅
But I can see now how it could be “another think,” as in: if you think that’s how this will go, you’re going to have a chance to re-think what’s actually happening.

Abusive, argumentative, disruptive are contempt issues: I would have found the defendant in contempt, $200 fine and 30 days in jail giving time for another PD to be appointed and to get up to speed...if it were me. If it were me, I would be ready to impose another contempt charge, $300 fine and 60 days the next time it happens after the defendant is warned, ad infinitum as required. And if it were me, if ever the case ever proceeded to sentencing, credit for time served would not be considered or ordered. If it were me ...
Additionally, I would warn/advise the PD office to try, if possible, to appoint a PD who is an able self-defender of appropriate size ...

Seems like for defendants like this, they could have an isolated booth or room near the court where they could put them (with guard) where there would be a screen and speakers where they could hear everything in the court during their hearing, and a mic with a mute under control of the judge. They could also have some buttons labeled "YES" and "NO" that would be enabled by the judged and they would be forced to use if they refuse to answer Yes/No questions. The indications from the yes/no buttons would be announced clearly into the record. They could also have a "request to speak" button and maybe even an "object" button that would show an indicator to the judge only, who would then determine when to unmute the defendant when it was their turn to be heard (maybe those would play into the record, but would be single-fire and would play only ONCE until reset by the judge - in fact ALL the buttons could be single-shot until reset to prevent them from using them to spam interrupt proceedings) - and the defendant would also be on camera into the record as well.

The saying is, "If you think you are right, you have another think coming"... that's the saying. (or at least that's how it began...) Conversely, "Oh, is this something you did? Well you got another thing coming..." That's the way I always understood the phrase to be used.

he also used ‘passed’ instead of ‘past’ when referring to if the defendant passed (sic) the first grade.

The defendant is right. When the judge calls the public defenders "His Attorneys" you have a problem. This case calls for a outside appointed lawyer to represent him. He didnt threaten anyone and the judge should recuse himself.

There's not a lot of meat on the bones of a short hearing like this. You can always scrub forward with the right directional key to hop forward. That's an easy way to self edit. I did actually cut a lot of stuff out, it is by virtue of your comment that I can brag that my edits were mostly not noticed.

That request is a bit vague. If you thought something was wrong with the sound, you could’ve at least said what is wrong.
