A plea deal means that there will be no jury trial. It means that the accused pleads guilty and goes straight to sentencing. It’s more likely to be parents, siblings, other family members, and friends of the family! Then there’s people who get to know a family, for the purpose of abusing the children. They will groom the parents first, gain their trust, and the children will see that the parents trust the abuser.
As a survivor of sexual assault, my heart bleeds for this young lady. I too, was traumatized and still bear the scars over 50 years later. I kept it hidden over 45 years. I finally got help and today I have moments of peace unlike I have ever had before. I have never had any closure and been able to confront those that hurt me. They are long gone. I attend regular therapy and remain sober. I am able to keep those deeply embedded demons at bay. I have survived and refuse to be destroyed anymore. I was a naive young boy of 10, 1972. I pray for all of the victims every day.

The stigma of sexual assault is still very real. More importantly, trauma like this literally changes the brain. She will never truly trust herself or others. Unfortunately, due to the stranglehold the insurance industry has on health care, unless her family is middle-class or wealthy, she won't receive the help she needs. Cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and other techniques, take time, generally a lot of time.
I'm disappointed by the Judge referring to her as a "young Lady", sex offenders do this all the time to make the child sound more mature than she is. She's a 'child'. Just my pet peeve.
There are certain cases that should never be allowed to plead down. This is at the top of the list. He should never be allowed to see the outside of a prison EVER again.
Fortunately your opinion is not relevant as to how our legal system works, the case may be weak or the victim may find it too traumatic to testify, both are very good reasons to offer a plea
In fairness it’s better to take a 25 year sentence, which for his age is likely life, than to drag this through a trial which could last years. I was recently a juror for a situation similar to this and it took five years to get a guilty verdict.
She's very brave to face her abuser in person. He needs to put away forever not 25 yrs with possibility of parole. Disgusting man trying to cry and talk to her and gain her sympathy, at least the other inmates probably will take care of him. I isolated myself from others and now at the age of 68, I was married once, with no children. It hasn't gone well, it's been tough. Being in a loving relationship hasn't happened for some reason.

I don’t think he will ever know how much judges like him mean to those of us who have ever been mistreated by family or a loved one or ever been assaulted by someone stronger than us who chose to exert that power over us when we were helpless. In some cases, it's necessary because the survivor can't or won't testify. In this case, it seems like she was willing to testify so I don't understand why he got a 25 year sentence. Unless the girl was ok with that and if she is, then so am I. Otherwise, I think 50 or life. More than 25 because I believe he's eligible for parole after serving half of the sentence.

That sucks. But the judge probably wasn't in control of how long the sentence was. So it's probably your state's department of prisons that's respsonsible. And, in some states, involuntary or vehicular manslaughter can carry as little as 4 years. I know in CA it's 5.5 (or it used to be).
I had to listen to that section no fewer than a dozen times. I told a friend of mine, I might have to be done for the day after listening to that over and over again... it just broke my heart for her. OMG... I can't even repeat some of the horrible things I thought I heard her say. I know it broke Judge Steven's heart too. You could hear it in his voice.
Absolutely. It's a shame that victims in Texas don't get to speak before the judge issues sentence. I'm assuming, although I don't know for sure, that the judge reads their written statements and considers it when making a decision but I'm not positive.

I love Judge Stevens. I wish I had had a man like him in my lifetime. All men placed in a position of protection and kindness in my life did not live up to their roles. Finally this victim has men who are willing to step up and ensure she is heard, validated, and protected.
I’m so sorry that you had to endure that. I grew up in a very unstable home, but it makes me appreciate my kids even more. More than one therapist has told me that my upbringing will only end in one of two ways, but taking the “high road” is very rare. I simply wanted to be more than that, so I am. I never had a “dad” either and I literally lost count of my mother’s divorces, but think she was up to 6 when she passed. I was abused by her and numerous stepparents, but please, whatever happened to you, try to only let it make you stronger. It’ll NEVER take away the hurt, but could definitely light a spark inside of us that nothing else can. Be well.

@@annaclarke7643 It’s not a plea of their preference, but if they give information to convict another perpetrator, the prosecution will offer a plea deal to get that information. It depends on the DA on how good of a deal they get. Some still get life, but are offered certain privileges if they tell where the bodies are buried; and details such as those.
That poor young woman. So much has been taken from her, yet she is able to forgive him. I'm not sure I can forgive him, but she is by far a better person than I. No child should have to go through this. Not just the physical abuse, but the mental manipulation. He preyed on her sense of right and wrong to keep her silent. It is hard to imagine how this could get any worse, but this is his own child! I wish I could take the pain she will have to deal with for the rest of her life. I know that I am not the only one who would gladly make this man "go away." When watching judge Stevens throughout this case, you can see and hear the rage he feels when listening to him and seeing his face. It takes a special kind of person to sit through cases like this. We are lucky to have judges like him.

The courts cannot serve proper sentences. Thank the government for making these crimes not as serious in courts. But no matter where he goes he is not safe. No pc or solitary confinement. Supreme Court has ruled that only murder qualifies for the death sentence; from a Louisiana law. And as many times as we've seen false accusations of child sexual abuse - I think this is a bad idea. In this case, the guy admits to it, but there are plenty of cases where the defendant does not admit it. Look up the Dale Akiki and McMartin Preschool cases. If those men had been sentenced to death, the state would have killed innocent men. I think a life sentence - more than the 25 years he got here - is enough.

Oh everyone will know he is a CHOMO. He will be very lucky if he gets out alive. In My state even after completing the prison sentence they are then committed to a state hospital and very few if any are released from the state hospital. They are kept there to prevent a danger to society. I think in the last 10 years only one or two people have been released after being committed.

I love Judge Stevens compassion and his defense of victims. Unfortunately, when a child is sexually abused, whomever they were before is gone. Sexual abuse alters the brain chemistry of a child/victim. Then there are the body memories - aversions to certain food textures, smells, the feel of fabric, trouble sleeping at night if the abuse occurred at that time and so on. I've always advocated that the perpetrator should be held accountable to pay for all the therapy/psych treatments, education, housing, living expenses and so on because in essence, the abuser has taken a "life". Jail time only keeps a perp off the streets. It does nothing to heal the victim.

A friend of mine is a bankruptcy attorney and told me that after law school he couldn’t find it in his heart to practice any other law. He said if you’re a prosecutor, you better be right otherwise you’ll be putting people away for no reason. Defense attorneys have to represent scum, so that was out. He went on saying how “family law” is the opposite as it generally breaks families apart. He finally arrived at bankruptcy saying how he appreciates that he could help those down on their luck to get a fresh start, all while never having to worry about the above! He’s a good man and a great attorney.
My family law attorney began his career as a bright-eyed, save the world public defender. He told me he quickly lost the rose-colored glasses. He said he felt like scrubbing with clorox after some trials. Our justice system guarantees legal representation

I'm disappointed. I was hoping the Judge would give him more time. I know he had a plea deal, but the Judge has the authority to override that deal, and 25 years is not nearly enough time to cover the trauma he put his own daughter through.

Judge Stevens usually speaks with defendant during sentencing, but thankfully, he knew this vermin is so beneath comtempt, that there was no point. It broke my heart when that brave survivor said, "Dad."
If he hadn’t been given a deal of 25 years you can bet that judge Stevens Jr would have given him the 99 years . At times the judge must feel let down by the prosecution when they make some of these deals.

I am so impressed by Judge Stephens demeanor. I do wish he would have gotten a 99 year sentence. 5 years he hurt this child, 5 long years of agonizing hell and a lifetime of trying to live a normal life.
I'm not sure why he only got 25 years. The survivor is apparently willing to testify. With Texas parole rules, I believe he'll be eligible in as few as 12.5 years (correct me if I'm wrong here). So I hope the daughter was approved of the sentence; which, I surmise, is why Judge Stephens accepted the plea. Because, imo, it's too lenient.

Its often for the sake of the victim, so that they don't have the trauma of enduring reliving it all at a trial.

It’s more likely to be parents, siblings, other family members, and friends of the family! Then there’s people who get to know a family, for the purpose of abusing the children. They will groom the parents first, gain their trust, and the children will see that the parents trust the abuser.
As a survivor of sexual assault, my heart bleeds for this young lady. I too, was traumatized and still bear the scars over 50 years later. I kept it hidden over 45 years. I finally got help and today I have moments of peace unlike I have ever had before. I have never had any closure and been able to confront those that hurt me. They are long gone. I attend regular therapy and remain sober. I am able to keep those deeply embedded demons at bay. I have survived and refuse to be destroyed anymore. I was a naive young boy of 10, 1972. I pray for all of the victims every day.

More importantly, trauma like this literally changes the brain. She will never truly trust herself or others. Unfortunately, due to the stranglehold the insurance industry has on health care, unless her family is middle-class or wealthy, she won't receive the help she needs. Cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and other techniques, take time, generally a lot of time.

There are certain cases that should never be allowed to plead down. This is at the top of the list. He should never be allowed to see the outside of a prison EVER again.
Fortunately your opinion is not relevant as to how our legal system works, the case may be weak or the victim may find it too traumatic to testify, both are very good reasons to offer a plea
In fairness it’s better to take a 25 year sentence, which for his age is likely life, than to drag this through a trial which could last years. I was recently a juror for a situation similar to this and it took five years to get a guilty verdict.
She's very brave to face her abuser in person. He needs to put away forever not 25 yrs with possibility of parole. Disgusting man trying to cry and talk to her and gain her sympathy, at least the other inmates probably will take care of him. the victim will always believe intimacy is bad and will be affected by this issue for the rest of her life. As a thirteen-year-old young man, I dealt with this issue. I isolated myself from others and now at the age of 68, I was married once, with no children. It hasn't gone well, it's been tough. Being in a loving relationship hasn't happened for some reason.
I'm so sorry you had to go through anything like this. I too have had this happen at the hands of 2 different family members. I'm 48 and it has affected my entire life and stolen so much joy from me. We can be happy though. Sending you hugs 🫂

If only ANY counselor, attorney or judge back then would have believed a submissively groomed 14 year old Autistic girl as to what was happening, bad dad would have done life in prison instead of molesting his young step-granddaughters and being laid to rest as a retired LEO. In some cases, it's necessary because the survivor can't or won't testify. In this case, it seems like she was willing to testify so I don't understand why he got a 25 year sentence. Unless the girl was ok with that and if she is, then so am I. Otherwise, I think 50 or life. More than 25 because I believe he's eligible for parole after serving half of the sentence.

That sucks. But the judge probably wasn't in control of how long the sentence was. So it's probably your state's department of prisons that's respsonsible. And, in some states, involuntary or vehicular manslaughter can carry as little as 4 years. I know in CA it's 5.5 (or it used to be).

Absolutely. It's a shame that victims in Texas don't get to speak before the judge issues sentence. I'm assuming, although I don't know for sure, that the judge reads their written statements and considers it when making a decision but I'm not positive.

I’m so sorry that you had to endure that. I grew up in a very unstable home, but it makes me appreciate my kids even more. More than one therapist has told me that my upbringing will only end in one of two ways, but taking the “high road” is very rare. I simply wanted to be more than that, so I am. I never had a “dad” either and I literally lost count of my mother’s divorces, but think she was up to 6 when she passed. I was abused by her and numerous stepparents, but please, whatever happened to you, try to only let it make you stronger. It’ll NEVER take away the hurt, but could definitely light a spark inside of us that nothing else can. Be well.

I was abused by my pediatrician. In 2015, close to 50 people, men and women came forward. He was charged but died before trial😢

@@annaclarke7643 It’s not a plea of their preference, but if they give information to convict another perpetrator, the prosecution will offer a plea deal to get that information. It depends on the DA on how good of a deal they get. Some still get life, but are offered certain privileges if they tell where the bodies are buried; and details such as those.
That poor young woman. So much has been taken from her, yet she is able to forgive him. I'm not sure I can forgive him, but she is by far a better person than I. No child should have to go through this. Not just the physical abuse, but the mental manipulation. He preyed on her sense of right and wrong to keep her silent. It is hard to imagine how this could get any worse, but this is his own child! I wish I could take the pain she will have to deal with for the rest of her life. I know that I am not the only one who would gladly make this man "go away."
When watching judge Stevens throughout this case, you can see and hear the rage he feels when listening to him and seeing his face. It takes a special kind of person to sit through cases like this. We are lucky to have judges like him.

Plea deals in these cases show a lack of respect or empathy for the victims.
I have a lot of respect for the judge. But bottom line - he should have added time. Take the power away from the abuser in front of the victim.
The courts cannot serve proper sentences. Thank the government for making these crimes not as serious in courts. But no matter where he goes he is not safe. No pc or solitary confinement. Remember the George Floyd cop he had the highest of safety and he still got the business. Supreme Court has ruled that only murder qualifies for the death sentence; from a Louisiana law.
And as many times as we've seen false accusations of child sexual abuse - I think this is a bad idea. In this case, the guy admits to it, but there are plenty of cases where the defendant does not admit it. Look up the Dale Akiki and McMartin Preschool cases. If those men had been sentenced to death, the state would have killed innocent men.
I think a life sentence - more than the 25 years he got here - is enough.

Too little time in prison, plus he should be forced to wear a "Convicted child rapist" tag all the time while in prison.
Oh everyone will know he is a CHOMO. He will be very lucky if he gets out alive. In My state even after completing the prison sentence they are then committed to a state hospital and very few if any are released from the state hospital. They are kept there to prevent a danger to society. I think in the last 10 years only one or two people have been released after being committed.
You should look up the case of "Katie's Revenge" if you like hearing about prison justice other than killings.

Unfortunately, when a child is sexually abused, whomever they were before is gone. Sexual abuse alters the brain chemistry of a child/victim.
Then there are the body memories - aversions to certain food textures, smells, the feel of fabric, trouble sleeping at night if the abuse occurred at that time and so on.
I've always advocated that the perpetrator should be held accountable to pay for all the therapy/psych treatments, education, housing, living expenses and so on because in essence, the abuser has taken a "life".
Jail time only keeps a perp off the streets. It does nothing to heal the victim.

A friend of mine is a bankruptcy attorney and told me that after law school he couldn’t find it in his heart to practice any other law. He said if you’re a prosecutor, you better be right otherwise you’ll be putting people away for no reason. Defense attorneys have to represent scum, so that was out. He went on saying how “family law” is the opposite as it generally breaks families apart. He finally arrived at bankruptcy saying how he appreciates that he could help those down on their luck to get a fresh start, all while never having to worry about the above! He’s a good man and a great attorney.
I’m sure the attorney feels the same way about his client. He has to represent him, not like him.

If he hadn’t been given a deal of 25 years you can bet that judge Stevens Jr would have given him the 99 years . At times the judge must feel let down by the prosecution when they make some of these deals.
Oh, yeah, Judge Stevens is a rare combination of both angry and heartbroken, and I’m glad he makes it clear! He seems like a very fair and levelheaded judge. He’s probably been doing this for a long time and wisdom is very important in his role, it simply cannot be understated! It looked and sounded like he was tearing up towards the end. I was too. I’m glad this scum will be going away for a very long time and that the judge entered him onto the list right away! Does anyone know what the defendant said at the end when he spoke out of turn???

This .... thing... Is beyond reprehensible. I should know, it happened to me and my dad was the monster. Only at the time it happened, it was in the 70's ... When it's all hushed up and told you're lying and/or made it up, and try to throw it under the rug.... He has NEVER had any punishments thrown at him and he got away with it, ruining my life .

I was very surprised the judge ok’d charging him with the lesser charge. I kept waiting for him to change it to the higher, longer charge. Disappointed.
Prayers and love to the precious child that he hurt. I pray she finds Peace and comfort. I wish her happiness and that by some miracle that his evil actions does not steer her down a darkened path.

I am so impressed by Judge Stephens demeanor. I do wish he would have gotten a 99 year sentence. 5 years he hurt this child, 5 long years of agonizing hell and a lifetime of trying to live a normal life.
I'm not sure why he only got 25 years. The survivor is apparently willing to testify. With Texas parole rules, I believe he'll be eligible in as few as 12.5 years (correct me if I'm wrong here). So I hope the daughter was approved of the sentence; which, I surmise, is why Judge Stephens accepted the plea. Because, imo, it's too lenient.
Why should they have given him a plea at all.

I believe the special parole conditions cited by the prosecutor referred to him not being able to get early release due to the nature of his crime.

They are guaranteed convictions. It would break your heart to really know how many people will hang a jury for this stuff... What would you rather happen? Him plea out and get 25 years, or have it go to trial and have a scummy juror hang the jury box to the point where everything gets dragged out until it either gets droppd or the victims stop cooperating because they just want to move on?
Historically speaking, that's how most CSA cases end up... Children are rarely protected and most often accused of making stuff up or "just trying to get their parents in trouble"... As we heard this victim state.

When the lesser charge is "aggravated sexual assault of a child" you are bad dude.
As a female surviving a sexual abuser I know deep in my heart karma comes back for they have not ruined my life but have ruined their own we couldn't run to a police officer back in the 70s for children were seen and not heard,,,,,, there's lots of us who have survived sexual abuse at the hand of another, we all secretly wrap our arms around this little girl, and we tell her she's going to be all right.

Prosecutor should be prosecuted for cutting a plea deal. Sometimes I think they do it just to feel important.
Plea deals are usually offered to avoid having the victim testify.
Another fool with ZERO legal knowledge. The prosecutor cuts a plea deal because he doesn't have enough evidence to prosecute the higher charge. If the judge doesn't like the deal, he doesn't have to accept it.
Especially since it was continuous. It seems they are stuck on the 14, as if it was a one time offence. Since it is his daughter, we can assume it started when she was very young. The plea deal is insane, especially since they never reform and continue to assault when released.

@@Baphomet101 I disagree that it’s because the prosecutor didn’t have enough evidence to prove the higher charge. They did it for a guaranteed conviction and to avoid having the victim testify.
