Mercane Widewheel 2020 (Pro) Electric Scooter Review - Performance & Features

  • The long anticipated Mercane Widewheel 2020, also known as the Mercane Widewheel Pro is finally here. We took it for a test drive at the indoor track in Montreal, Canada and this video is a breakdown of everything we like and dislike about Mercane's new scooter. Once we tried it indoors, we couldn't resist taking it outside despite the snowy conditions. So we did and we don't regret a second of it.
    Overall, the Mercane Widewheel 2020 Pro can be summarized by saying that Mercane finally caught up on all the basics we've been asking about for years. The display is here. The second brake for a scooter that pushes 40 km/h is here. The metal frame is reinforced and supposedly much more crack-resistant. With these basic, yet new upgrades in place we can finally start to enjoy the Mercane Widewheel for what it's known for - addicting torque and high speeds. Even though this is Mercane's third version of the Widewheel, we would argue this is ground zero. This is no longer a kick-starter project, but rather a product that can take on the likes of Zero or Boosted. A product that can take them on, and for a fraction of the price, crush them.
    The scooter is now available for pre-order with January delivery, exclusively at Apollo Scooters:

      So far I do enjoy riding it just only that the delay on the throttle makes the scooter takes some getting to use to as well as steering. However it's only my first ever scooter. You do have to take a little extra precaution because of it's acceleration.
      I'll be giving it a real test tomorrow when I ride it to work and back for my first time. I didn't do it today because it's too cold outside for such a ride which is around 8 miles back and fourth (sorry I'm from the US so I know my measurement system here is Doo doo)

    Hey Chris. Great vid, Im so happy to see that Mercane has listened to the feedback and finally released this uprgaded model.
    As far as I understood the 2019 throttle meant to improve the jerkiness of the previous model. Since this throttle closely resembles 2018 version Im wondering if using the scooter at lower speeds (below 10km/h) would still be possible? Thanks

    • @ApolloScooters
      @ApolloScooters  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Skateskate - thanks for your comment :-). The throttle itself is the same throttle used on the 2018, but the jerkiness/control is the same as the 2019 model unfortunately. This makes it really hard to drive slowly (below 10km/h) - you'll just need to be gentle and used to it, but then again the Mercane wasn't made for slow speed unfortunately. Hope this helps!

      Visually, they're quite similar - the easiest way to tell the difference is by looking for the LED display. Secondly, the 2020 model has the additional front brake. Lastly, the 2020 model has a re-designed stem and fork which look sturdier in comparison to the 2019 model.

    • @ApolloScooters
      @ApolloScooters  Před 4 lety +4

      Hi Kel, it's a slightly different connection so it won't be as simple as unplugging the old one, and plugging in the new one. The throttle is quite jerky - if you're an experienced rider it won't be an issue, however if you're new to Mercane scooters, it's not the most intuitive. We are working on a better throttle available as an upgrade, check out website next week for more info.

    Just a heads up but.....
    It was 2018 that there were problems with the alloy parts snapping, ie, the front fork arm holder and main stem, also the poor quality throttle. The 2019 improved the alloy they used and the method also to shape it much better, a key throttle and main stem was re-done with the hole on the side making it more sturdier. I think you may need to put a pop up in your video to clear those facts up :)

    • @ApolloScooters
      @ApolloScooters  Před 4 lety

      Hi @FpvPete! Thanks for reaching out :-). Yes, completely agree that the 2019 was an improved 2018 frame structure, but the 2020 is even strongly reinforced than the 2019 - you see a huge difference in the stem and fork on the 2020 vs the 2019. As suppliers, we still had a few cases of breaking parts on the 2019 (not even close to as many on the 2018) - but with the 2020 frame improvement, quite confident that nobody will face the snapping issue. But you're completely right, the 2019 was a big improvement - but again to put it in perspective, the 2020 is even more reinforced :-).

  • @JustAnotherReviewwithAlek

    Great review mate and I agree with you to a point. I have 4 2019 1000w and the new Pro. I also do reviews on CZcams so this is my findings. They both reach the same speed, Mercane says they have re-enforced the alloy but that’s bullshit! It’s still the same. All they have really done is sell a new style with the same product from 2019! The price on the new WW Pro here in Australia, you can buy a way better scooter like the falcon X10 or the new D-thunder which is way better product. Great upfront review mate but do a full review in 2 months of riding this WW day in day out and see what happens. Hill tests, terrain test, gutter jumps and people that weigh in at 100kg. I will follow your channel
    Good luck

      Hey Alek - thanks very much for your kind comment and feedback! Speed wise, agreed - but when looking at the frame, they've definitely re-enforced it (we remove both stems and compared the thickness of the material) + the mechanism they use has more support (crucial as the front brake adds much more forward pressure). It's really a love or a hate relationship with Mercane scooters and depends on your needs - personally its one of our best sellers and if you love that need for speed/stability of the fat wheels, its incredible. The turning radius and foam tires are a little bit of a turn off, but again depends on what you're looking for!
      We'll be releasing hill tests, brake test, range tests and all other videos soon - will look forward to your feedback on those too :-). Thanks again Alek!

      @@ApolloScooters true they did improve the stem and electric scooter guide confirmed it, but what is not true is that range is better with the bigger battery. Range is the same, within half a km difference, the bigger battery just makes up for the additional weight and speed. For me however the weight is the dealbreaker. I went with the Boosted red which is even a bit heavier than what I can stand and I don't mind the shorter range since I have other single motor lighter scooter with a much better range if needed. Also the Rev is amazing under heavy rain, thanks to its large pneumatic tires and powerful electronic brake that does not skid contrary to the disk brake...

      @ApolloScooters  Před 4 lety

      @@_Digitalguy Agreed - the Rev unfortunately is missing suspension, still can't believe they designed such a beautiful scooter, and didn't add one of the key components to it - the reason we wouldn't pay such a premium price for it! Hoping that they'll release a new version with the suspension soon :-)!

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy Před 4 lety

      Apollo Scooters sure, suspension are a big miss on the Rev, but not a deal breaker... They would be a deal breaker on the mercane, at any price at that speed and with solid tires. But the pneumatic tires do a decent job in city streets.... And the Rev is much safer under rain than the Mercane or any solid tire scooter (and it’s truly waterproof). Having said that if they manage to add suspensions without increasing the weight by more that 1kg I’d buy a second rev again.

    Is it possible to limit the speed to 25km/h?

    • @ApolloScooters
      @ApolloScooters  Před 4 lety

      Hi BisseonJees, yes it is possible to limit it to 25km/h on Eco mode (may be a little more, 30km/h), but it is possible to limit the speed very easily :-).

      Apologies, we seem to have lost all of our recordings for this video! We are currently writing it up as a blog post, we will share the link here later today.

      Firstly, please respect our posting schedule. We are trying our best to get the content produced, but our priority is taking care of our customers.
      As mentioned in the below comment, we unfortunately lost the footage from the speed unlock video. We did, however, write a blog post that explains the same process. You can find it here:

      @@angelangelus9697 Hi there - unfortunately we haven't tried the Kugoo M4 nor heard anyone have it.. The Mercane is a high quality electric scooter, and I guarantee that you won't regret purchasing a product with high quality materials (batteries, motor etc). When looking at the M4, there isn't enough info online for us to give you a proper point of view, which normally explains itself!
